EP 65: Ramadan Blues, Bollywood Villians & Men Love “Sports”

This week on Confessions of a Desi Drama Queen, we start with the obvious: the world is…not great 🌍🔥. Between political chaos, economic dread, and the general vibe of “are we living in the bad timeline?”, we’re asking why astrologers — the people who are supposedly reading the stars — didn’t warn us properly. Where were the charts for the villains?? 🔮 Is astrology actually a tool for understanding power and patterns, or is it just a cute personality test we all got a little too attached to? And while we’re at it, we address the awkward reality of being American right now…because lately it feels a little embarrassing repping the dark side 🇺🇸😬. Then we take a deep dive into one of Bollywood’s longest-running problems: colorism 🎬. From the industry’s obsession with fairness to the way darker-skinned actresses were framed as “bold,” “villainous,” or “too sexy,” (Justice for  Bipasha Basu). Also — why were the men always so aggressively mid while being paired with the most stunning women alive? 😭 And why were none of them even funny?? Looking back, we realize the so-called “villain women” of Bollywood were way ahead of their time 💅🏽! Then we get a little more personal- Amna opens up about feeling strangely disconnected from Ramadan this year 🌙 and the pressure that comes from hyper-visible “MuslimTok,” where faith sometimes feels more like performance than spirituality. Instead of judgment, we talk about the importance of uplifting each other and making space for imperfect practice 🤍.  Storytimes from Sana and Amna’s extremely unserious teenage era as naath performers at age 14 🎤 — and their brief, failed attempt at becoming religious “missionaries” 🕌💀. And then…a hard left turn. Because we have questions. Are boys’ sports actually just men yearning for emotional intimacy with each other?? 🏈👀 Because from the outside…it really looks like it. Finally, we wrap up with CIBAB where we tackle the eternal debates: what it’s like owning a dog while being Muslim 🐶🧕🏽 (especially when the dog lives in your house), and the surprisingly controversial question of brushing your teeth while fasting 🪥⏰.
