    "Why Women Deserve Less" by Myron Gaines vs the History of Marriage

In this episode, we fact-check Myron Gaines new book “Why Women Deserve Less” against the actual history of marriage. Through research from Stephanie Coontz’ “Marriage, A History,” Angela Davis’ “Women, Race & Class,” and personal anecdotes from “This American Ex-Wife” by Lyz Lenz, we trace a much darker history of heterosexual relationships and gender roles than the “Old Contract” that Myron romanticizes.Despite Myron’s attempts to dodge accusations of misogyny by pushing a narrative of male self-help advice, his book Why Women Deserve Less relies on the red pill’s strict gender role beliefs that dehumanize women and encourage abusive tactics found in the domestic violence Wheel of Power and Control. This video essay explores the history of mental illness, the history of psychiatry in America, the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), therapy culture, medication, and how “madness” has been shaped by colonialism, racism, sexism, capitalism, and eugenics. In 2026, more people than ever are being diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health conditions.
