S2 EP 24: A Lighthearted Conversation About Conspiracy Theories
Disclaimer: Take everything we say in this episode with a grain of salt. Do your own research. Come to your own conclusions. Everything discussed here is just for fun and meant to be thought-provoking. We did minimal research. This episode is intended to be light-hearted; it's really not that serious. 😜 Resources: Moon Landing Hoax: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2019/jul/10/one-giant-lie-why-so-many-people-still-think-the-moon-landings-were-faked Flat Earth: See the Blog Post for images and details Flat Earth Conference Youtube Video The Matrix: See the Blog Post for images and details Sheena's Conspiracy theories came from ChatGPT The Mandela Effect The Mandela Effect refers to collective false memories shared by large groups of people, leading some to believe that it’s proof of alternate realities or parallel universes. Named after the belief that Nelson Mandela died in prison in the 1980s (when in fact, he passed away in 2013), people cite instances like the Berenstain Bears (often remembered as "Berenstein Bears") or the Monopoly Man's lack of a monocle as examples. The theory suggests that these widespread “misremembered” facts are evidence that we’ve slipped between timelines, possibly due to experiments like those at CERN affecting our reality. CERN and Portals to Other Dimensions The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) operates the world’s largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which has led some theorists to speculate that CERN’s experiments go beyond scientific research. Conspiracy theories claim that CERN is attempting to open portals to other dimensions or even communicate with entities from parallel universes. The 2012 “discovery” of the Higgs boson, often called the "God Particle," added to these ideas, as some speculate that unlocking these particles’ secrets could allow scientists to alter time and space. CERN has publicly dismissed these theories, calling them misunderstandings of their scientific goals. Chemtrails and Weather Manipulation This theory claims that the long-lasting white trails left by airplanes, commonly known as contrails, are actually “chemtrails” filled with chemicals released into the atmosphere. Believers suggest these chemicals are dispersed to manipulate the weather, control the population, or even carry out mind control. Proponents argue that chemtrails differ from regular contrails due to their persistence in the sky. Governments and scientists have repeatedly debunked this theory, explaining that contrails linger based on specific atmospheric conditions, but the theory remains popular among those suspicious of government transparency. Big Pharma This theory suggests that major pharmaceutical companies, often referred to as "Big Pharma," prioritize profit over public health and may actively suppress or delay the release of cures for major diseases like cancer, HIV/AIDS, and diabetes. The argument is that these companies make more money by treating symptoms and managing chronic illnesses than they would from a single, curative treatment. Proponents of this theory point to the influence Big Pharma has over medical research, government regulations, and healthcare policy, asserting that their control allows them to keep lifesaving treatments from the public. While the pharmaceutical industry is highly regulated, the perception of greed within it lends this theory credibility for many, leading to significant public distrust.
