    WNP Philosophical Detours #12

Welcome to today's episode of the WNP detours! Today, we explore Empiricism and the history of it's origins! The roots of empiricism is a concept most likely even older than detailed, but as most western philosophical foundings, tends to originate its voice around records founded in ancient Greece. Viewed more as an informal practice of thought, this has been part of ancient studies before the time of Socrates. Presocratic philosophers had arranged such thoughts as an early foundation to western ideas as a whole, empiricism included. "Ionian philosopher Heraclitus (fl. ca. 500 BCE). One fragment reads, 'The things of which there is sight, hearing, experience, [these] I prefer'” and " “poor witnesses for men are the eyes and ears of those who have barbarian souls”" Epicureanism, a school within the structures of ancient philosophy, is an active example of how observations can be similar in concept. Without knowing better, the foundations of the world could seem observable in a "similar to same" state and thus seems empirical by nature of the ideas founded within the school. (ca. 408–339 BCE) Speusippus’s views (Plato's son) suggests the idea of a "cognitive sense perception" which paints a picture of adding sensibility in form to your observations to gain a realistic and refined approach to your sensed observations. Sir Francis Bacon 1561-1626 (The Scientific Method) within the later period of the first scientific revolution, right before the rise of Sir Isaac Newton's revelations in a few years thereafter. John Locke 1632-1704 is also another example of how people form empirical concepts in the modern age, as the scientific processes are sense based and require empirical thought by nature of task. Empiricism is proven to be founded theory by default in principle when observed further through the theories of Sir Isaac Newton's inquiries, even if proven shaken within the everchanging environments in modern day science.
