This podcast was, at one point, a lot of fun and genuinely thought-provoking. I listened to the first couple of seasons and really enjoyed it. I even felt comfortable enough with the content that I let my teenage sons listen, and they loved the show too. I eventually stopped listening, although my sons continued. Recently, several friends reached out and encouraged me to listen to some of the newer episodes because they had concerns about the direction the show was taking and knew my boys were still listening. After listening for myself again, I have to agree with some of their concerns. It is clear to me that the podcast has lost its way. The humor feels different than it did in the earlier seasons. Some of the jokes have become increasingly pointed and, at times, ethnically insensitive—particularly when it comes to Jewish people. There also seems to be a pattern of soft misogyny being cloaked as humor. At some point, the joke stops being clever or thought-provoking and starts feeling more like an excuse for behavior that would otherwise be difficult to defend. Have you ever tried critiquing a narcissist? Typically responses are gaslighting attempts to justify their behavior and make you feel like you’re the one who’s in the wrong…. These guys love mocking their fans genuine concerns.
