The Strange History of Ulysses, Kansas | We Won't Finish This Podcast #24

Send us a text Saddle up, partners, for a rootin’-tootin’ episode of We Won’t Finish This Podcast! This time, Zeebz pitches a wild, true-story Western flick about Old Ulysses, Kansas—a frontier town that pulled off the ultimate hustle by literally picking up and movin’ to dodge its debts! Meet George Washington Earp, the one-man, whiskey-swiggin’, saloon-runnin’, vote-riggin’ cowboy who’s slicker than a greased weasel. Expect slapstick shenanigans, frontier slang that’ll make you cackle, and a tale so absurd it’s gotta be true. Will Savage and Spaceman greenlight this dusty epic, or will it be left in the cactus patch? Hit play to find out!  0:00–0:15 – Intro: Welcome to We Won’t Finish This Podcast! Savage and Spaceman introduce Zeebz pitch for a movie we’ll never make. Giddy-up for some frontier fun!   0:16–1:30 – The Pitch Begins: Zeebz unveils a true-story Western about Old Ulysses, Kansas, and its larger-than-life hero, George Washington Earp. The hosts get handed a list of frontier slang, and things go cattywampus real quick!   1:31–4:30 – Opening Scene: A stagecoach rolls into the prairie, planting a sign for “Future Ulysses: Population Pending.” Enter George Earp, emergin’ from the brush with a mustache and a plan. The slang flies thicker than buzzards!   4:31–8:00 – George Takes Charge: George flips the surveyors’ upside-down map and lays out Ulysses with a broken compass and whiskey bottle. The hosts riff on his swagger and dream up Gene Wilder as the star.   8:01–13:00 – Saloon Shenanigans: George runs the town from a saloon, handin’ out mule licenses and turnin’ broom closets into courthouses. The hosts talk Hector the mule and frontier multitasking.   13:01–19:00 – County Seat Showdown: Ulysses battles Tilden for county seat glory, with George's hired gunmen (like Bat Masterson!) guardin’ the ballot box.  19:01–27:00 – Courtroom Chaos: Tilden sues over vote-riggin’, but both sides are guilty! A goat eats evidence, the judge sobs, George sips his whiskey. 27:01–29:30 – Tar and No Feathers: Tilden’s whistleblower gets tarred and sent walkin’ through a cactus field. The hosts pitch a slapstick “ow, ow” scene. 29:31–36:00 – The Town Moves!: George proposes movin’ Ulysses to dodge debts. A banjo-fueled montage shows the town skiddin’ away on oxen. The hosts debate Three Stooges-style slapstick.    36:01–38:30 – Empty Prairie: Investors return to find only a schoolhouse and a cacklin’ old man. “You got schooled!”  38:31–44:00 – Lore Break & George’s Legacy: Zeebz drops facts about George Washington Earp, Wyatt Earp’s cousin, who lived to 96 and ran Ulysses like a boss. The hosts marvel at the real-life absurdity.   44:01–52:00 – Slapstick vs. Tension: The hosts debate makin’ the movie pure slapstick or mixin’ in Tarantino-style tension. They riff on Home Alone and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.   52:01–56:00 – Greenlight or Bust?: Savage yellow-lights it for a video game campaign, Spaceman hates the ending, and Zeebz defends the story’s hilarity. New New Ulysses, anyone?   56:01–59:09 – Outro: The hosts wrap up, plug socials, and sling more frontier slang. Check us out at http://Linktr.ee/WWFTpod and join the hoedown! Hiber-Nation | We Won't Finish This Podcast #23

Send us a text Welcome to We Won't Finish This Podcast, the writer’s room show where hosts Spaceman, Savage, and Zeebz pitch wild movie ideas that will never see the silver screen. In this episode, Spaceman unveils Hiber-Nation, a genre-blending tale of action, horror, and alternate-world intrigue set in a sprawling metropolis where humans hibernate for months at a time. The hosts dive into a gritty world of night-shift soldiers, mysterious tremors, and monstrous threats, all while riffing on the absurdities of a society built around mandatory sleep cycles. Expect dark humor, vivid world-building, and a chaotic, apocalyptic climax that leaves you questioning what’s next for humanity. [00:00 - 00:30] Introduction to the Show The hosts kick things off with their signature chaotic energy, explaining the premise of pitching unmade movies. Spaceman introduces Hiber-Nation, setting the stage for a wild ride.   [00:30 - 02:34] The World of Hiber-Nation Spaceman lays out the concept: an alternate universe where humans hibernate for three months, while a select group, the "Windurn" (Children of Winter), stay awake for that time to guard the city. The hosts riff on the logistics of a society built around sleep cycles.   [02:34 - 09:00] Lore Break: The Night Shift’s Origins Spaceman dives into the lore, revealing the Windurn’s history as a selectively bred group once treated like slaves, leading to a historic uprising. The hosts joke about pranks, morning breath, and the perks of the modern night shift.   [09:00 - 15:04] Meet Darren Kaine and the Night Shift The story begins with Major Darren Kaine waking from his nine-month hibernation in a military barracks. The hosts paint a vivid picture of a groggy, disoriented city transitioning between day and night shifts.   [15:04 - 26:05] Subterranean Tremors and Rising Tension Darren learns of mysterious subterranean tremors threatening the city, with scientists racing against their own hibernation clocks to investigate. The hosts speculate on the ominous vibes.   [26:05 - 33:56] Exploring the City and Transition Woes Darren gets a rare chance to see the city alive during the transition period, as citizens prepare for hibernation. The hosts humorously explore the chaos of last-minute tank repairs and the eerie quiet of a city going to sleep.   [33:56 - 46:06] Lore Break: The Black Winter A soldier shares the chilling tale of the Black Winter, a catastrophic event that destroyed all other cities, leaving this metropolis as humanity’s last bastion.   [46:06 - 58:06] The Monsters Awaken The tremors escalate, buildings collapse, and horrific creatures emerge from underground, slaughtering hibernating citizens. Darren’s team faces blood-soaked chaos.   [58:06 - 1:06:25] The Final Stand and Nuke Decision With the city overrun, Darren leads a desperate mission to activate a secret weapon—a nuke. The hosts critique the rushed ending, joking about Darren’s sudden binoculars and the bleakness of sacrificing the city.   [1:06:25 - 1:12:36] Wrapping Up and Reflections The hosts reflect on the bleak ending, debating whether the nuke stopped the monsters or doomed the survivors. Social media plugs and a hilarious anecdote about Zeebz pants-pooping story close the episode. Rock To The Future | We Won't Finish This Podcast #22

Send us a text Welcome to the most chaotic writers' room on the internet! This week, Savage pitches Rock to the Future—a time-travel comedy meets stoner rock odyssey that’s equal parts Back to the Future, Bill & Ted, and a fever dream after too many brownies. It’s 1978, and a teenage slacker gets shoved into a time capsule locker, only to emerge in 2008 to chase his rockstar dreams. Will he shred with his idols or get wedgied into oblivion? Let’s find out—sort of!   0:00 – Intro: Meet the Table   The gang kicks off with music, applause, and an unhealthy obsession with their new studio table. "It ties the whole thing together!"   Savage blindsides Spaceman and Zeebz with Rock to the Future. No prep, all chaos—perfect for our writers’ room vibe.   0:56 – The Pitch: Rock to the Future Unveiled   Meet Robbie St. Van, a 1978 slacker with long hair, sideburns, and a garage-sale 1959 Gibson Les Paul. He’s obsessed with rock gods like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and the heaviest band ever—Feather!   3:05 – 1978 – The Setup   Daltrey High School, 1978. It’s the 30th anniversary, and the time capsule locker is the star—until Robbie gets locked inside.   Whimsy alert: The locker’s magic mutes his screams. He’s got his guitar, his dreams, and a bully named Seth Armstrong with atomic wedgie skills.   Teaser: Will Robbie woo Janice Chambers or get his Les Paul smashed? 9:22 – Feather’s Stage Disaster   Robbie fantasizes about seeing Feather live, only for guitarist Davey Bones to crash through the stage and die. The crowd crowd-surfs his corpse while Robbie shreds a solo. Too bad it’s all in his stoned head.   13:43 – The Bully Beatdown & Time Jump   Seth the Jock delivers punches, insults, and a locker stuffing. Robbie’s guitar snaps—ouch!   Cut to 2008: The locker opens, and Robbie stumbles into a gritty Daltrey High. From 1978 stoner to 2008 outcast—can Robbie survive the future? 19:49 – 2008 – A New Era, A New Wedgie   Robbie’s a relic in skinny jeans land. Enter Chuckle Bunny, a vending-machine-robbing wook who loves Feather too!   New rival: 3rsty, a dubstep DJ with MySpace clout and wet beats.   25:07 – Band Recruitment: The Oddball Montage   Robbie and Chuckle Bunny form a band to open for Feather’s “One Last Hurrah” tour.  Clara, a goth drum goddess, steals the show. Could she be… someone’s daughter?   43:05 – Juggalo Detour: ICP Chaos   Robbie crashes an Insane Clown Posse show (thinking it’s Kiss), wakes up with Faygo stains and a hatchet man tattoo. Whimsy overload!   50:41 – The Band Unites: Peter Returns   Surprise! Clara’s dad is Peter, Robbie’s 1978 bestie, now 48 with a basement jam space. Reunion hugs and Feather tunes follow.   Chuckle Bunny’s out, Peter’s in—band practice gets tight, and the Les Paul gets reforged!   56:48 – Battle of the Bands Showdown   Time Capsule rocks the stage with originals and Feather covers. Robbie’s unstoppable—until 3rsty's dubstep steals the crowd.   1:03:10 – The Ending Debate: Where Does Robbie Go?   Does Robbie meet a washed-up Feather and cry? Jump back to 1978 to shred with them pre-suck? Or stay in 2008 as a nostalgia rockstar?   1:11:56 – Wrap-Up: Socials & Sign-Off   Loved the chaos?
