PM Magazine - Tony Harris 10.3.2026

SOUL SCREEN COLLECTIONS Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast Cover by: Gail Nobles In North Carolina, WRAL-TV Channel 5 had its own local version of PM Magazine in the 1980s, hosted by Tom McNamara and Susan Dahlin. That brings back memories for me. Back then, we watched television on those old sets with the channel knobs. We had rabbit-ear antennas, and we also had an outdoor antenna. Sometimes Channel 5 came in clear, and sometimes the picture was fuzzy. That’s what makes these old television memories so special. Before streaming, before apps, before you could simply search for whatever you wanted to watch, you turned the knob, adjusted the antenna, and discovered what was on television. It was a shock seeing Channel 5 pop up after turning the old TV knob, almost out of the blue. We only had Channels 9, 7, and 12, and what we called Channel U, which probably stood for UNC-TV. I remember hearing the familiar introduction to PM Magazine: “Join PM Magazine on TV 5.” It might have been during commercial time when I heard it. But WRAL wasn’t the only station with a local PM Magazine. The program had local hosts in different parts of the country. That’s where another television personality, Tony Harris, enters the story. According to Wikipedia, in 1983 Harris was hired by WJW-TV in Cleveland as a reporter for its PM Magazine show. He spent 10 years at WJW as a co-host of the magazine program and as a general-assignment news reporter before moving on to Entertainment Tonight. Dusty Rhodes - Afraid of No Man (10.1.2026)

PODWAVE MINISAT Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast Cover by: Gail Nobles Welcome back to Podwave Minisat. Let’s go into Live Screen Selection. Today, we’ll select Channel 4 — Wrestling. And today’s topic is Dusty Rhodes. I recently came across a 1982 issue of The Wrestler magazine, and there was a story about Dusty Rhodes returning to Florida. The story brought back a particular memory for me—not just of Dusty Rhodes the wrestler, but of the way people watched wrestling back then. The magazine quoted Dusty saying: “Let me tell you, brother, The American Dream is afraid of no man, you know what I’m saying?” Now, that sounds like Dusty Rhodes to me. Dusty talked like a soul man. That was Dusty Rhodes. And when I was growing up, you could hear that kind of excitement right in the household. In my neighborhood, when everybody gathered around the television to watch wrestling, you could hear somebody yelling: “GET ’EM, DUSTY!” People were really into wrestling back then. And I’m not just talking about the adults. Some people would get so caught up in a match that you could see the stress on their faces—as if they were actually there in the arena. Parents were watching. Children were watching. And everybody had somebody they were pulling for. So when Dusty Rhodes got in there with somebody like  Kendo Nagasaki eyes were glued to that television. The September 1982 Wrestler featured Dusty’s return to Florida and his feud with Nagasaki. The magazine even carried a photograph of Nagasaki choking Dusty during a Florida match. And this wasn’t just a quiet wrestling rivalry. The feud produced some wild television moments. But when I look back at that old magazine, what stands out to me isn’t just the match. It’s Dusty’s voice. It’s that confidence. “The American Dream is afraid of no man.” And if you grew up watching Dusty Rhodes, you knew exactly what that meant. You were watching Dusty. This is Podwave Minisat. Tuning into DABL (9.20.2026)

TUNING INTO DABL Return of 90s Black Sitcom Classics Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast cover by: Gail Nobles Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel. Today, I want to talk about a recent discovery I made right over the airwaves—and if you’re a fan of classic 90s comedy, you’re definitely going to want to check this out. I’m talking about DABL. It’s an American television network, and for a while, I was lucky enough to pull it in on channel 50.3. Now, at first, I was only catching it at night. You know how it goes with over-the-air signals sometimes—atmospheric conditions change, and channels only peek through after dark. But lately? Things have changed. I’m starting to see it come in clearly in the morning. The signal just seems to be getting stronger and stronger. So, what’s actually on DABL? It’s essentially an African-American sitcom channel, and the lineup is stacked. We’re talking about heavy hitters like Martin, Living Single, The Jamie Foxx Show, and so many more incredible black comedies and shows that defined an entire era of television. I have to tell you, it is just great to have Martin back on the screen. That was one of my all-time favorite shows, and seeing it again brings back so many memories. It got me thinking—what were some of your absolute favorite sitcoms back in the day? Drop a comment or let me know what you loved watching growing up. Now, if you have an antenna for your TV and you aren't seeing DABL on your lineup yet, here’s a quick pro tip: your TV probably just needs a rescan. Sometimes new subchannels pop up or old ones shift frequencies, and a simple channel scan is all it takes to unlock a whole new batch of entertainment. If you’ve picked up DABL in your area, or if you’ve recently found any other hidden gems on your antenna, let me know. Thanks for tuning in, everyone. Catch you in the next episode! I’m Gail Nobles. Soul Group Antenna (9.5.26)

Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast cover by: Gail Nobles Two Channels, One Personal Group Soul Group Antenna is the name of my podcast. But the name came from something I discovered while watching television. I have two channels that I enjoy watching: Bounce and 365BLK. I discovered that my television allows me to organize channels in my Favorites list. I could group channels together and even give that group my own name. So I thought: Why not call my group Soul Group Antenna? That’s where the idea for the podcast name came from. Now, I want to make something clear. Soul Group Antenna is my podcast and my personal channel group. I don’t own Bounce or 365BLK, and I’m not claiming that I do. I’m simply creating my own viewing group from channels that I receive on my television. What’s the Difference? Bounce is a broader Black entertainment network, featuring television series, movies, specials, and other entertainment. 365BLK also focuses on Black entertainment, with a strong emphasis on movies and television programming. They’re different channels with their own identities. But on my television, I can put them together in my Favorites group. So when I select Soul Group Antenna, I’m not turning them into my network. I’m creating my own personal way of watching them. It’s almost like having my own little television network—but it’s not mine. And that’s what makes the name Soul Group Antenna meaningful to me. The antenna represents what I’m receiving. The group represents the channels I’ve chosen. And the podcast is where I get to talk about the experience. I’m Gail Nobles. Homemade Antenna Stacking 8.24.’26 1.45 PM

Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast Cover by: Gail Nobles The best Christmas ever was when my brother helped me get a flat-screen TV. But I soon learned that I needed an antenna for the TV to pick up signals from local broadcast stations that transmit their programming over the air. I discovered that placing an indoor TV antenna higher than the television—ideally on a wall or high up near a window—can often improve signal reception. So I came up with my own idea. I stacked a few CD containers and attached my antenna to the top. At the very bottom, I added a Cool Whip container because it was wider and helped make the whole setup feel more stable. As I scanned for channels, more signals began to appear. Even today, I sometimes have to rescan my television to find new channels. One day, I scanned again, and Channel 50 came in along with a subchannel, WRAZ 4 — 50-4. I noticed that Batman was showing. The TV showed a strong signal indicator, but the picture was black. Sometimes a channel can show a strong signal but still fail to produce a usable picture. Reception can vary depending on the antenna’s position, the surrounding environment, interference, and other conditions. Some signals may also become easier to receive at certain times of day. What started with a Christmas gift from my brother turned into something more than just watching television. I began experimenting with antennas, scanning for channels, and figuring out how to bring more of the broadcast world into my home. I'm Gail Nobles. MovieSphere Gold Channel 8.24.’26 11.29 AM

Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast cover by: Gail Nobles I would love to be able to tune in to MovieSphere Gold, but in my area, the over-the-air DTV signal is too weak for me to receive it reliably. “MovieSphere Gold is a contemporary movie network delivering premium films backed by Lionsgate. The network features exclusive themed marathons, fan-favorite hits, and titles that viewers may not find anywhere else.” (Lionsgate Channels | Free Live TV) I want this channel so badly that I would love to have it sitting right there in my TV channel favorites list. I have been visiting the MovieSphere Gold website, and I like what I see. The programming looks like something I would enjoy watching. From my own experience with over-the-air television, I believe the signal environment in my area was stronger in past years. There was a time when I could receive channels from much farther away. Today, some channels I used to receive are more difficult to bring in, weaker than before, or no longer seem to be available. I have reached out to Lionsgate to let them know that I am unable to receive MovieSphere Gold over the air and that stronger reception would make a difference for viewers in areas like mine. For now, I am hoping the signal situation improves. I would love to see MovieSphere Gold come in strong enough for me to add it to my favorites and enjoy the movies. Remembering Baretta 7.25.’26 12.35 PM

Story by: Gail Nobles Podcast Cover: Gail Nobles In a recent look back at classic television, we dive into "Baretta," a show that aired in the mid-1970s. This series is actually a revamped version of another show called "Toma," which starred Tony Musante as a real-life New Jersey police officer named David Toma. After just one season, Musante left, leading to the reworking of the series into "Baretta," featuring Robert Blake in the lead role. I recall when the show used to come on. I never watched the show as a kid, but I remember Baretta and a white cockatoo. This morning I watched a sad episode of Baretta titled "The Goodbye Orphan Annie Blues." He came to suspect that his close friend, a music store owner, was a drug dealer—suspecting the friend might be unknowingly selling heroin. The episode had a truly sad ending. "Baretta" follows the story of Anthony Vincenzo "yTony" Baretta, a unique and somewhat unconventional detective who works in a fictional city’s 53rd Precinct. He lives in a rundown hotel and has a pet Triton cockatoo named Fred. One of Baretta's intriguing traits is his skill in disguise, which helps him solve cases. His everyday look is casual and laid-back, typically sporting a short-sleeve sweatshirt, comfortable slacks, a brown suede jacket, and a newsboy cap—giving off a relaxed vibe even while on the job. Baretta has become memorable not just for his detective work, but also for his iconic mannerisms. He’s often seen with an unlit cigarette tucked behind his ear, and he has a few famous sayings that fans remember fondly. Phrases like "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time," and "You can take dat to da bank," capture his street-smart attitude and make him a relatable character to many viewers. I'm Gail Nobles.
