For several years, Rakime has worked in a variety of maternity settings in a large teaching Hospital. She completed her PhD in 2012 which focused on women's experiences of severe postpartum haemorrhage and emergency hysterectomy. Rakime has successfully led a number of research projects on birth trauma and the psychosocial impact on mothers, fathers and midwives. This first season spotlights the experiences of culturally diverse Australian women who identify with the Islamic faith.   This episode features: ·     Recurrent pregnancy loss, ectopic pregnancy ·     IVF loss ·     Complexities of fertility journeys ·     Infant loss ·     Navigating end-of-life and discontinuing life support ·     How faith helped with healing   Ebru is a Turkish-Australian married to an Egyptian man. After multiple miscarriages and a very lengthy infertility journey, she had her miracle baby, Dahlia, in 2017. Soon after, she spontaneously fell pregnant. Her angel Aliyah was born in May, 2018 and survived for 32 days. Four years on, she now has two angels beside her and one in the heavens above.   Naveen was born in Pakistan and has been living in Australia with her husband since 2012 before relocating to London this year. She has spent a number of years struggling with infertility, early pregnancy loss, traumatic ectopic pregnancies and the death of her daughter Sophia in 2019. After a year of IVF, she returned to the workforce accepting her status as a mum for her angel daughter Sophia, only.   Both Ebru and Naveen are actively involved with Community Care Kitchen, donating their time toward helping those in need in the community.   Want to feature in season 2? This first season spotlights the experiences of culturally diverse Australian women who identify with the Islamic faith.   This episode features: ·     Islamic rituals honouring pregnancy and infant loss ·     Culturally responsive counseling ·     Relationship between life and death ·     Unresolved grief   Mariam Ardati is a Funeral Director, Consultant and Educator based in Sydney.   Following an information management pathway and many years working in health-related industries, she developed a keen interest in the death-care sector. For the past 15 years, she has dedicated her time as both a volunteer and care consultant for a number of funeral services, performing the final rites in accordance with Islamic tradition, providing spiritual and practical care to the grieving, and assisting families through the coroner’s court and its processes.   As a death-literacy advocate, she also runs Death Cafes and workshops on death and dying from an Islamic perspective. These workshops were created to assist health professionals and support staff in government and non-government organisations develop more informed approaches to culturally appropriate therapy models and coping strategies for Muslim patients and their families.    Want to feature in season 2? Founded in February 2013, BPS has received national recognition for its award-winning events and programs. In 2022, Sara organised and hosted a fundraiser in collaboration with Australia for UNHCR in the Sydney Opera House, raising over $25,000. She also founded Muslim Agenda, Australia's first Muslim Women's Festival and ran a poetry festival culminating in Australia's first National Youth Poetry Slam. In addition to community organising, she performs her poetry regularly and most recently performed at the Prime Minister's Luncheon in Western Sydney and the Marie Claire Women of the Year Awards.
