More Than a Mug: Memories Over Followers

You posted it. Good reach, good numbers. And a week later, nobody remembers it was yours. Because here's the truth. Being seen and being felt are two completely different outcomes. Only one of them builds trust. So when an influencer popped up on Sammy's feed and she said what most of us think ("they just do everything for show"), we put the phone away. We made tea. And I pulled out a pineapple mug. This is a four-minute conversation with my Cal Poly student Sammy about a mug, a restaurant in Lahaina that no longer exists, and why the things we never post are often the things that hold us. In this episode: → The two requirements I gave a coffee mug, and why "big" was only one of them → A pineapple cup a five-year-old talked her parents into, and what it became after the Lahaina fire → Why your brain works like a jukebox when you look at certain objects → The Inside Out memory ball, and why you may not need the photo → The one question to ask instead of "how do I get more people to see me?" Quote to Note: "Visibility gets you in the room. Resonance is what makes people stay." Petite Practice®: Small, Steady Steps to a Life of Momentum and Real Change is out now. If this one made you look up from the scroll, the book is your next small step: https://doctorchristiane.com/books/ One question before you go. Whose message has stayed with you? Leave it in a comment, and follow the show so the next one finds you. Cheers to more pineapples in Maui. Watch the full episode: https://youtu.be/UdWxFqL6dks

Why Your Goals Keep Falling Apart

It was never your discipline. You have been standing at that bus stop longer than you want to admit. Picture it. You know exactly where you want to go. The bus is your goal, and the destination is clear. The doors open, and the very first step is too high. So you wait. The doors close. The bus pulls away with your goal on it, and you stay on the sidewalk in ordinary shoes, holding ordinary bags, on an ordinary day. Now imagine the driver sees you hesitate. Presses a button. The whole bus lowers, soft hydraulic sound and all, until that first step comes down to the sidewalk and meets you exactly where you stand. That is Petite Practice. In this episode: → Why the design of the goal breaks first, and discipline takes the blame → How to shrink a first step until it feels almost too small to matter → What 20 years of behavioral economics keeps saying about lasting change → Why the route has stops, and why you are allowed to pause or step off → How to move on a low-motivation day when nothing is going right → The one small step you can take today, before you feel ready "You were never the problem. Your step was just too high." The full story lives in the book. Petite Practice®: Small, Steady Steps to a Life of Momentum and Real Change is out August 16 on Amazon. It is the system that lowers the bus to where you already stand. Become a Founding Pioneer here: https://doctorchristiane.com/books/#bonus One question before you go. What goal have you been watching pull away, and how small would that first step need to be for you to take it today? Warmly, Dr. Christiane. Watch the full episode: https://youtu.be/hbhnVGcL8UA

    Why "Leader" Also Means "Ladder

There's one German word that quietly changed how I lead. In German, the word for leader is Leiter. Leiter also means ladder. Same word. Same spelling. Leader... ladder. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. Because a ladder exists for one reason. To help someone reach a place they couldn't get to alone. It holds steady while you rise. And it asks for nothing back. In this episode I sit down with Sammy, my social media student assistant, and what starts as a funny language fact turns into the truest definition of leadership I've found. We think leadership means standing above people. The title. The spotlight. The corner office. A ladder does none of that. A ladder doesn't climb for you. It doesn't brag about how high it goes. It just creates support, steady enough to trust. So I walk Sammy through the three things a real leader actually does: → Creates stability... because nobody wants to follow a shaky leader → Supports every step, not just the top one... growth happens gradually → Remembers they are not the destination... they are the pathway The best leaders don't build followers. They build more leaders. Ask yourself the question I asked Sammy: Am I trying to be in the spotlight... or am I willing to be the ladder? "Leadership is not measured by how high you climb, but by how many people can climb higher because of you." ...Dr. Christiane This idea is the heartbeat of my new book, Petite Practice®: Small, Steady Steps to a Life of Momentum and Real Change, out August 16. The ladder... the quiet way the best leaders show up... runs right through its pages. You can become a Founding Pioneer here: https://doctorchristiane.com/books/ One question to sit with this week: Who helped you climb when you couldn't quite reach the top on your own?

What is the Power of Small Steps? w/ Lisa Cork

Lisa Cork spent 35 years as a CEO. She made her first call asking for help this spring. Early in her career, two women mentors were handed to her through a women's mentoring program. Both were deep in the fresh produce world. Both could have changed her trajectory. She had no idea what to do with them. Not because she didn't care. Because nobody teaches you how to use a mentor, and she was an introvert who didn't yet know she was one. So the relationships went quiet. And for the next four decades, Lisa built a career, a reputation, and a network of people who knew her and respected her... and never once asked any of them for anything. Then, over spring break, she picked up the phone. A produce woman she'd known for years. One call. Nervous as heck. The answer came back immediately. Yes, of course, absolutely. It paid dividends she wasn't even expecting. And it took 40 years. In this episode: → Why mentorship fails from not knowing how to use it, not from lack of access → The two mantras Lisa reaches for when the work feels bigger than she is → Why your peer network outlasts any single mentor... and the LinkedIn target to set before you graduate → How to reach out to someone without asking them for a job → Inside the Leadership Lab, and why I give students guard rails exactly once → Lisa's three-part answer to "you're going to be okay if you..." Quote to note: "I'd been afraid for 40 years to make the call." - Lisa Cork This is the whole idea behind my new book. Small, steady steps... including the one call you keep putting off. Why Couldn't I Sleep?

For years I taught people how to reach their health goals... while quietly failing at one of my own. I barely slept five hours a night. Sometimes less. And I did not just notice it. I judged myself for it. Hard. Here I was, a leadership coach who teaches energy, focus, and wellbeing... and I could not get my own sleep under control. So the thought became "what's wrong with me?" That question is shame. And shame keeps you frozen. I tried everything. Resolutions. Resets. Morning routines. Mindset work. Every night I told myself tonight would be different. Every night it wasn't. Then something shifted. Not a dramatic move. A small one. Almost like a petite practice. I stopped asking who I was and started looking at what I was doing. That is the difference between shame and guilt. Shame says "I'm the problem." Guilt says "something I'm doing isn't working." One freezes you. The other gives you something to work with. Once I got honest, I got unstuck. In this episode: → Why shame keeps you looping, and how to catch it → The one question that moved me from shame to action → The real difference between guilt and shame → The small outside support that changed my sleep (no pressure, just data) → How one petite practice turned five hours of sleep into real recovery The line I want you to keep: you might not be the problem after all. If you have been telling yourself "I should have figured this out by now"... this one is for you. This is exactly what my new book is about. What If You're Already Enough? w/ Lisa Cork

What if the introvert in the room is the one who ends up running the company? Lisa Cork spent years quietly fighting a voice that told her she wasn't confident enough, assertive enough, extroverted enough. She did great work and never let herself believe it. Then she stopped trying to be someone else and built a career around exactly who she is. In this episode of the Happy Healthy Hustle Podcast, Lisa and I get into the story behind her nickname, the broccoli lady: the protest press release she wrote as a brand-new marketing manager that went viral before viral existed, generated an estimated 150 million dollars in free publicity, and ended with her presenting cases of broccoli to Barbara Bush on the White House lawn. But the real story isn't the broccoli. It's what happens when you do the work to understand how you're actually wired, and stop apologizing for it. Lisa turned down a prestigious New York job, immigrated to New Zealand, and built a 35-year run as a CEO, one small honest decision at a time. If you've been waiting to feel confident before you act, this conversation flips the order. What you'll learn: ➡️ Why doing great work means nothing until you let yourself believe it ➡️ How being an introvert became Lisa's advantage, not her ceiling ➡️ The story behind 150 million dollars in free publicity ➡️ Why understanding yourself is the work that makes everything else possible ➡️ How to say yes to the opportunity that scares you ➡️ Why you're allowed to change who you were five years ago Quote to note: "You are amazing. Be confident in being yourself, because you are enough." This idea, that small brave steps compound into a completely different life, is the heart of my new book, Petite Practice®: Small, Steady Steps to a Life of Momentum and Real Change. It lands August 16. What If 1 + 1 Was Never Meant to Equal 2? w/ Josh Heptig

What if the thing that drives you craziest about your partner is the exact thing holding your relationship together? Here's what nobody tells you about compatibility: sameness feels safe, but it doesn't make you grow. The friction. The different pace. The way your partner sees the thing you'd walk right past. That's not the problem in your relationship. That's the point of it. In this episode of the Happy Healthy Hustle Podcast, I sit down with my husband, Josh Heptig, my opposite in nearly every way. I move fast. I plan everything. I like structure. Josh pauses. He asks questions. He waits. And for years, that pause drove me up the wall. Then it hit me. The pause wasn't slowing me down. It was saving me from my own speed. Two different ways of seeing the world were never a flaw to fix. They were the whole reason we work. This one's for anyone who's ever looked at their partner and thought, "How are we this different?" Because compatibility was never about matching. One plus one was never supposed to equal two. In this episode, we get into: ➡️ Why two opposite perspectives create something neither of you could build alone ➡️ The power of "the pause," and why it works even if you hate slowing down ➡️ Why compatibility isn't about sameness (and why that's actually great news) ➡️ The mindset shift that turns friction into fuel ➡️ How to use your differences to build a relationship that genuinely thrives Josh and I are proof: you don't grow by finding someone just like you. You grow by learning from the person who isn't. Quote to Note: "Your view by itself is missing a part, and so is mine." - Josh Heptig This is the whole idea behind my new book, that small tension, handled well, creates big growth. It's called Petite Practice®: Small, Steady Steps to a Life of Momentum and Real Change, and it lands August 16. Want in before everyone else?
