#015 - Beyond Survival, Healing Shame

Disclaimer: This episode discusses topics such as sexual abuse and suicide. Please take care of yourself while listening and seek support if you need it. We are joined in this episode with Larry Ruhl, author of Breaking the Ruhls, a courageously authentic memoir of his journey through childhood sexual abuse and complex trauma. Larry shares insights into confronting shame, the challenges of recovery from addiction, and the need to break silence. We explore how shame fuels addiction, why we need process it, and not just survive it, and how confronting the reality of our pain can lead us to healing and, ultimately, meaning by serving others. Larry Ruhl serves as a board member for Taking Back Ourselves, which facilitates weekends of recovery for female survivors of sexual abuse, and is a registered speaker with the RAINN network (Rape Abuse Incest National Network). He also previously served as a board member at Male Survivor. https://www.breakingtheruhls.com If you like this podcast, please subscribe, and visit us at https://traditionfive.org. #011 - Resentment

The Big Book describes resentment as the number 1 killer of alcoholics. This episode is not for the faint-hearted: we dig deep into resentment to understand its power, why it's dangerous to our recovery and how fear is the underlying source. We explore the emotional dead-end that we get to when we look for 'why' we're resentful. Taking an alternative approach takes courage and honesty, but one that brings us closer to truth and a deeper understanding of who we are. It brings us to a cross-roads of choice rather than an emotional dead-end. If you like this podcast, please subscribe, and visit us at https://traditionfive.org. #010 - Bottom Lines & 3 Circles

In this episode we have a lively debate about bottom lines and the inner, middle and outer circles (3 circles) - which is often used when we need to define what abstinence means for us. We discuss bottom lines in Sex Addicts Anonymous (SAA). We share some different mental models on how to define bottom lines, where the boundary between middle and inner circle lies, and the importance of understanding your intent and your own boundaries in expressing healthy sexuality. We wrap up with the outer circle - is it a hedonistic bucket list or a things that are good for us? If you like this podcast, please subscribe, and visit us at https://traditionfive.org.
