    122. Why You Feel the Need to Work (Even When You Don't Have To)

Why do so many of us feel like we NEED to work, create, accomplish, and contribute—even when our basic needs are already met? Our ancestors spent most of their days doing physically demanding work simply to survive. Today, modern conveniences have removed much of that work from our lives. And we can be VERY grateful for modern conveniences, while also sometimes wondering what we lose when our lives no longer require quite as much from us. Human beings were made to create, contribute, solve problems, develop skills, and grow. And that's one reason building a business can be such a meaningful pursuit—especially for women who feel called to entrepreneurship but don't necessarily need the money. In this episode, I'm talking about our human need for meaningful work, why comfort doesn't always equal fulfillment, and why your desire to build something might actually be connected to God's desire for you to grow and expand your capacity. I'll also share some of my own experience building an online business and why I'm so grateful for the ways it has stretched me, challenged me, and helped me become someone I couldn't have become by simply staying comfortable. If you've been feeling a persistent desire to create, contribute, build, or do something beyond what is currently required of you, I hope this conversation helps you look at that desire a little differently. Maybe it's not selfish or a distraction. Maybe it's an invitation. 121. Do Less, Not More: How to Slow Down Without Giving Up on Your Goals

What if you don't actually need to do more? I've spent most of my life moving fast. Even now, well into my 40s, I still find myself tempted to measure my worth by how much I can accomplish in a day. But lately, I've been asking myself some uncomfortable questions: Why do I feel the need to be busy all the time? Why is it so hard for me to rest? Why does productivity make me feel valuable? And most importantly, is all this doing actually helping me become the woman God wants me to be? In this episode, I'm talking about what I'm learning about slowing down, living more intentionally, and finding contentment while still having big goals. I'll share the concept from "The Gap and The Gain" that completely changed how I look at achievement, what I've been learning from the scriptures about being still, and the surprising lesson my husband and I learned when we took a vacation with almost nothing on the agenda. I don't think the answer is to stop having goals or stop working toward the things that matter to us. But I do wonder if we can pursue growth without constantly being dissatisfied with where we are. Maybe we can build businesses, raise families, serve God, pursue meaningful goals—and still learn how to slow down. Maybe the goal isn't simply to DO more. Maybe it's to BECOME more. If you're a Christian woman who sometimes feels like you're constantly trying to catch up, accomplish more, improve yourself, grow your business, or become the person you think you "should" be, I hope this conversation gives you permission to take a breath and appreciate where you are right now. The truth is, you're probably not selling too much—you're selling too little.
