How Jesus Disrupts Politics as Usual and Redeems our Partisan Divide: Joshua Ryan Butler

In this episode of Theology Re-Examined, I am joined by Joshua Ryan Butler to talk about his newest book, The Party Crasher. In this conversation, Josh and I talk about the partisan divide that we often see come to the surface when engaging in politics between the dichotomy of Republicans and Democrats. Joshua helps us work through how as Christians, we can best engage politics while still being like Jesus — the Party Crasher. With practical tips, Josh explains everything you need to know about ways that, regardless of your political leaning, you can make a difference in the political realm while still bowing your allegiance to Jesus. He tells stories of how churches have split and relationships have been broken due to people not approaching these conversations in humility, and Josh teaches us some ways that we can work towards eliminating the animosity and division that can so quickly arise when it comes to this sphere of life. Joshua Ryan Butler is a pastor and the author of The Party Crasher, Beautiful Union, The Skeletons in God’s Closet, and The Pursuing God. Josh loves shifting paradigms, to help people who wrestle with tough topics of the Christian faith by confronting popular caricatures and replacing them with the beauty and power of the real thing. He and his wife, Holly, along with their three children, live in Portland, Oregon. They enjoy spending time with friends over great meals and exploring the scenic beauty of the Pacific Northwest. How Genesis Sets Up the Entire Story of the Bible: Hakeem Bradley

In this episode of Theology Re-Examined, I get to have a conversation with Hakeem Bradley from the Bible Project about how the book of Genesis sets up the story for the entire rest of the Hebrew Bible (and New Testament). In this conversation we leave no stones unturned, discussing things like the garden of Eden, becoming a tree of life, cherubim, hip hop, the structure and coherence of the Bible, the fall of Adam and Eve, the serpent and more! This is a conversation you are definitely not going to want to miss. Bio: Hakeem served in pastoral ministry at various churches in Portland, OR before joining the team at BibleProject in 2021 as a "professional nerd". He completed a Masters degree in Biblical studies at Western Seminary, and is currently pursuing a PhD (online) at a school in Australia. He currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and two kids.
