Welcome to The Adopted Brothers Podcast! We are brothers-in-law and brothers in Christ. We also happen to both be adopted physically and spiritually (Ephesians 1:5). Our goal is to share stories and conversations that encourage, promote growth, and most of all give glory to our Heavenly Father. We also take an active stance on taking care of orphans, foster kids, and adoptees as this is the only religion that God accepts (James 1:27). Stand Firm Ch. 4 Pt. 1: Be Strong | Finding Strength Through Surrender to Jesus

What does it really mean to be strong? In Chapter 4, Part 1 of our Stand Firm and Act Like Men book study, we explore how true strength isn't found in controlling our circumstances or trying to do everything on our own—it is found in surrendering to Jesus, trusting Him, and resting in His strength. We talk about the reality of spiritual warfare and why we cannot take the enemy lightly. The battle is real, but so is our victory through Jesus. We look at the armor of God, the importance of putting it on daily, and why God's Word is our weapon. Reading, studying, memorizing, and knowing Scripture prepares us to stand firm when we're under attack. We also discuss humility as a form of strength, serving others out of love without expecting anything in return, and how pride can lead us away from God. From 1 Peter 5:6 to Luke 22:42, we examine what it looks like to surrender our will to God's will—even when we don't get our way. How do we respond when life doesn't go according to our plans? What can we be grateful for instead of focusing on the negative? What will we do with what God has given us? And how does our proximity to Jesus affect the way we live, fight, serve, and succeed? Join Craig and Gerald and Josh as they continue the Stand Firm and Act Like Men study and discover that real strength comes from trusting God, obeying His Word, walking closely with Jesus, and resting in Him instead of striving to control everything ourselves. Scriptures discussed: Matthew 17:20-28, 1 Peter 5:6, Luke 22:42, Ephesians 6 and the armor of God, and the Book of Job. 🎙️ The Adopted Brothers Podcast — helping men grow in faith, stand firm in truth, and walk boldly with Jesus. Stand Firm in the Battle: Overcoming Temptation, Sin & Spiritual Struggles | Chapter 3 Part 1

What do you do when life gets difficult, temptation comes, and you feel like giving up? In Chapter 3, Part 1 of our Stand Firm series, we talk about what it means to stand firm in faith when you’re under pressure and in the middle of a spiritual battle. We discuss why we must take sin seriously, memorize and fight with the Word of God, and build our lives on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23 and 6:23 remind us of the seriousness of sin, while 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 calls us to be watchful, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, and do everything in love. We will get knocked down in the battle—but we don't have to stay down. Hebrews 12 challenges us to throw off every weight and sin that holds us back, while 1 Peter 5 reminds us to be alert and resist the enemy. We also talk about crucifying our sin daily, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal hidden sin and idols, bringing our struggles into the light, guarding our words, and giving God our pain so He can bring healing. Being a Christian doesn't mean being perfect. It means walking in relationship with Jesus, surrendering to Him daily, and allowing His Spirit to transform us. Are you standing firm on Jesus, or are you trying to handle life on your own? Join us as we learn how to stand firm, fight with Scripture, resist the enemy, and keep our eyes on Jesus when life gets hard. Scriptures discussed: Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 16:13-14; Hebrews 12; 1 Peter 5; and Ephesians 5:3. If You Pray, Why Worry? Stand Firm in Prayer, Community & Spiritual Warfare | Stand Firm Ch. 2 Pt. 2

What does it really mean to stand firm when life gets difficult and the enemy is fighting for your attention, your relationships, and your faith? In Chapter 2, Part 2 of our Stand Firm and Act Like Men series, we continue talking about what it means to follow Jesus with courage, humility, and unwavering faith. If you pray, why worry? And if you worry, why pray? God desires to walk with us in relationship every day, but following Jesus was never promised to be comfortable. Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that we will have trouble in this world, but we can take heart because He has overcome the world. 1 Peter 5:10 reminds us that God Himself strengthens and restores us through our suffering. We also discuss why the best way to fight is on our knees, the presence of the Holy Spirit in every season, and the choice Jesus made to give His life for us—and the choice we are called to make to give our lives to Him. You don't "got this" on your own. God created us for community, accountability, and relationships that help us stand firm. Pride can isolate us, but a cord of three strands is not easily broken. When Jesus is at the center, He becomes the firm foundation our lives must be built upon. We also tackle the enemy's strategy of using lust and sexual temptation to set our lives on fire, looking at 1 Corinthians 6:18 and the importance of guarding what we allow into our hearts and minds. What we allow into our lives doesn't just affect us—it affects everyone we love. In this episode, we discuss: If you pray, why worry?God's desire for daily relationship with usObedience over laziness and distractionWhy following Jesus isn't always comfortableJohn 16:33 and 1 Peter 5:10Fighting spiritual battles on our kneesThe Holy Spirit dwelling in usSurrendering our lives fully to JesusThe danger of isolation and prideThe importance of Christian community and accountabilityA cord of three strands with Jesus at the centerJesus as the firm foundation of our livesMatthew 16:23 and recognizing the enemy's influenceLust, temptation, and spiritual warfare1 Corinthians 6:18 and fleeing sexual immoralityHow what we allow into our lives affects those we loveStand Firm. Stand Firm Chapter 2 Part 1: Be Watchful | Spiritual Warfare, Pride & Protecting Your Family

In Chapter 2, Part 1 of our Stand Firm and Act Like Men series, we dive into the powerful call to “Be Watchful.” As men, we are in a spiritual battle, and God’s Word gives us the weapons and wisdom we need to stand firm. We discuss 1 Corinthians 16:13-14, Ephesians 6:10-14, and 1 Peter 5:6-10, and what it means to be alert, humble, courageous, and ready for the attacks of the enemy. Memorizing Scripture gives us a ready weapon when temptation, lies, fear, and spiritual attacks come our way. We also talk honestly about pride vs. humility, recognizing that we have two choices: be humble or be humbled. God is God, and we are not. Worship becomes a powerful weapon against pride because worship is warfare. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and spiritual warfare is not a game. We discuss why isolation is one of the enemy’s tools, why we need to run from temptation rather than put ourselves in situations where we are likely to fall, and how sin can bring spiritual death not only to us but impact our families as well. Men are called to be watchmen over their families, recognizing that our choices affect everyone around us. We also talk about anxiety and worry, and the importance of truly casting ALL our cares on God instead of picking them back up again. This is a challenging reminder: stay alert, stay humble, stay in God’s Word, worship through the battle, and stand firm. Stand Firm & Act Like Men Ch. 1 Pt. 2: Sin, Spiritual Warfare & Leaning Into Jesus

What happens when sin enters the picture? In Part 2 of Chapter 1 of Stand Firm and Act Like Men, we continue our study of Genesis 3 and talk honestly about sin, spiritual warfare, obedience, repentance, and what it means to truly lean into Jesus. We discuss how being single can be a gift, giving us greater freedom to use the gifts God has given us; how God created men and women uniquely and differently; and how sin brought religion into the picture when God has always desired relationship with us. The enemy wants us to doubt what we believe and believe our doubts, which is why we need to know God's Word and hide it in our hearts. We talk about our tendency to duck, cover, and blame when we do something wrong, but also the truth that God disciplines us because He loves us. There are consequences for sin, but Jesus paid it all—giving us the privilege of coming before God with repentant hearts and receiving forgiveness. We also talk about the spiritual battle every believer is facing. We are in a war, whether we like it or not. God's Word is our weapon, and our victory doesn't come from simply trying harder. It comes from leaning into Jesus, trusting Him, knowing His Word, and walking in obedience. Join us as we continue our journey through Stand Firm and Act Like Men and discover what it looks like to stand firm in a world where the enemy wants us to question God's truth. Scriptures discussed: Genesis 3, Matthew 12:34, and other biblical truths about sin, repentance, obedience, spiritual warfare, and God's love. Stand Firm and Act Like Men – Biblical Manhood, God’s Image & Standing Strong | Chapter 1 Part 1

What does it really mean to stand firm and act like a man of God? In Part 1 of our two-part study of Chapter 1 of Joby Martin’s Stand Firm and Act Like Men, we take a deeper look at biblical manhood, God’s design for men and women, and what it means to live with strength, courage, purpose, and obedience. Beginning with Genesis 1:26–27, we discuss what it means to be created in the image of God and why being filled with God’s Spirit is essential to truly living as the man God created you to be. We explore how sin entered the world through Adam and Eve’s choices, why our actions should glorify God regardless of our circumstances, and the powerful truth that you can’t stand like a man until you first bend your knee to God. We also talk about why warriors cannot afford to be passive, how God invites us to create alongside Him through our gifts and work, and why our work is an opportunity to bring glory to our Creator. As we face trials and tribulations, we need deep spiritual roots and a foundation built on the Rock. That foundation grows through time in God’s Word and prayer—not just talking to God, but learning to listen to Him. This episode challenges us to pray not simply for God to remove our difficulties, but for the strength and endurance to walk through them faithfully. Our obedience matters. The choices we make affect not only us, but also the people around us. Join us as we explore what it means to become men who stand firm, live courageously, work faithfully, listen to God, and surrender completely to Him.
