    All In - "Fear Is a Liar"

    ALL IN – Week 2 ­| “FEAR IS A LIAR” | Opening Reading: 1 John 5:6-12 | Teaching Text: 1 Peter 5:8-11 8Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. 10In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11All power to him forever! Amen. 1 Peter 5:8-11 NLT “What if I’m wrong?” A question of uncertainty, that stems from ourselves. - Our salvation is not our own… (Eph. 2:8-9 Saved by grace through faith, not your own doing, a gift of God) John wrote this because a false teacher(Cerinthus) had crept in and taught Jesus was not both divinely God and man. That the Spirit had entered Him at His baptism and left Him at the cross. (See Irenaeus, Against Heresies) - People severed fellowship (1 John 2:19) Others began to teach Jesus was not God in the flesh (1 John 4:2-3, 2 John 7) Fear is doubt disguised as control. - There is no fear in love. God’s perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18). Fear has to do with punishment; love has to do with grace and mercy. Where God is, there is no fear.   STAY ALERT – Watch out for the devil. Be vigilant against the strongholds, keep watch. STAND FIRM – Withstand the devil. He is constantly looking for someone to drag down to Him. BE STRONG – In your faith. He has no power over you except that which you give to him. GOD CALLED – Eternal life is a gift. Remember who moved first, God called you.  YOU WILL SUFFER – Withstanding the attacks of the enemy will cost you something. We ALL suffer.   HE WILL…. In His Kindness. The gift of salvation is not by works but by grace through faith!   RESTORE – Complete. Only He can perfect and mend the brokenness that we bring in. SUPPORT – Confirm. Jesus alone can make straight the paths to come alongside of us. STRENGHTEN – Empower. This divine strengthening can come only from the Lord.  FIRM FOUNDATION – Establish. Only He can provide this foundational building up.   Invitation: The only thing standing between us and Him, is us… RUN to the altars and release what binds you. Read, Romans 8:38-39. Pray, for response.

    All In - "What is the Gospel?"

    All In — Week 1           What Is the Gospel?          Opening Text: 1 John 5:1-5 Big Idea: The Gospel is the good news that Jesus, the promised King, died for our sins and rose again; so everyone who believes in Him is forgiven, welcomed as God's child and made new forever.  -       It is news about what God has already done for us, not advice about what we must do for Him. Hurdle: I've heard it, but have I really understood it? (Luther Quote)   Teaching Movements 1.    Purpose — Made for Relationship (Genesis 1:26-28): We were designed to know, reflect and steward for God. Purpose. 2.    Need — Rebelled, and God Came Looking (Genesis 3:8-15): Sin broke the relationship, yet God pursues and promises a rescuer. Our need, God's promise. (Ladd Quote) 3.    Promise — Promised Someone Would Come (Isaiah 61:1-3): Good news for the poor, brokenhearted, captive and grieving. A promised Savior. 4.    Tetelestai — The King Served and Finished the Work (John 13:12-17; 19:28-30): He served, substituted and declared "It is finished." Not "do," but "done." (Sibbes Quote) 5.    Forgiven — Died, Buried, Rose Again (1 Corinthians 15:1-4): The resurrection turns the story into good news; sins forgiven, death defeated. A message to pass on. (Criswell Quote) 6.    Restoration — God Makes Everything New (Revelation 21:1-5): God dwells with His people again, and the curse is undone. Restoration.   Invitation: Come In For those who have never trusted Jesus: come as you are.For those who have heard it for years: let it drop from head to heart, and stop adding to "It is finished."Three steps: Admit (made for Him, rebelled, can't fix it), Believe (Jesus died, rose, and is Lord), Receive (forgiveness, new birth, new life). [Prayer of Invitation]ConclusionOne story, one center: Jesus. Made for God, broken by rebellion, promised a Savior, served and finished, died and rose, made new.  Don't leave with just a better definition; leave having understood and received it, then tell somebody.

    John 3v22-36 "Everlasting Increase"

    Week 12 — John 3:22–36                          Title: “Everlasting Increase”                  Theme: He Must Increase Big Idea: We are not the Point, we are here to point to the Point.    V22-26 — To lead well, is to live well, IN community with those who we love. (v22) Setting Focus on ministerial geography: Judean (John’s account) Galilean (Synoptic) Two potential sites Ainun (Wadi Farah) or Tel Shech Salim (the birthplace of Elisha) [Scythopolis] Jesus Himself did not baptize, He oversaw His disciples (4v2) V27-30 — To live well, is to follow well, IN surrender to the one who sets us free. (v30) Mission Jesus the perfect bridegroom, the Church as the object of Jesus love the unworthy bride. (Revelation 19v7-8) Israel had long been depicted as God’s bride (Isaiah 62v4-5, Hosea 2v16-20) V31-34 — To follow well, is to serve well, IN submission to the Spirit who draws us nearer to God.  (v34) Calling Those who believe have been sealed by God’s gift of the Holy Spirit (John 6v27, Ephesians 1v13) V35-36 — To serve well, is to believe well, THROUGH inheritance of life on Earth as it is in Heaven.  (v36) Eternity The Father (Yahweh) is the supreme authority of the Trinity. Father (Yahweh) Son (Yahweh Saves) and Holy Spirit (Ruach ha Kodesh) [life-breath of God]. The Father speaks (ruach/pneuma) order into chaos, through the Son. [Hebrews 1v2-3, 1 Peter 3v21-22, 1 Corinthians 15v28] Those rescued from wrath inherit eternal life by belief, those who experience condemnation experience wrath because of disobedience.    Invitation: By the sealing of the Holy Spirit, we are invited into a life of Christlikeness, living out the Gospel message of salvation to lead into invitation those who would believe, receive and live it out. All people will either 1.) Deny the testimony of Jesus(v33)  2.) Believe in the testimony of Jesus for salvation (v36) —  WHERE ARE YOU, RIGHT NOW? Closing: Those who believe in Jesus as the gift of eternal life will never experience the darkness of lostness. Those who choose a life of disobedience have already accepted the darkness of lostness and the byproducts of its conditions.

    John 3v9-21 "Look and Live"

    Come and See – Week 11     “Look and Live”       John 3:9-21 Opening Reading: John 3:16-18 Big Idea: God lifted his Son up for the world, so look to him and live.   1. Ask (John 3:9-12) Nicodemus asks, "How can this be?" Jesus answers from firsthand knowledge.Nicodemus knew about God, but Jesus KNOWS God. Doubt is not the problem; unbelief is.Bring your honest question(s) TO Jesus, not AROUND him.2. Look (John 3:13-15) Only the Son who came down from heaven can bridge the gap. As Moses lifted up the snake, the Son of Man must be lifted up.The cure in Numbers 21 was lifted up, looked like the problem, cost nothing and was received by looking in trust.Look to Jesus, not harder or longer (human effort/achievement). Just look up to Him (faith).3. Believe (John 3:16-18) God loved, God gave, and everyone who believes has eternal life. The Son came to save, not to condemn.God loved, God gave (his part); we believe, we receive (our part). Love gave; faith receives.Salvation begins in the Father's love, and "believe" means leaning your whole weight on Christ.Love gave; faith receives. Put your own name in John 3:16 and see what Jesus did for you personally.4. Come (John 3:19-21) The Light has come, but people love the dark. Whoever practices the truth comes into the light.The problem is not information but affection. The light exposes in order to heal, not to humiliate.Stop taping over the warning light. Bring one hidden thing to Jesus and one trusted person.  Invitation: Fill in your own name where the blanks are, and say it with me, out loud: For God so loved ______ that he gave his one and only Son, that if ______ believes in him, ______ will not perish but have eternal life.   Conclusion: Ask. Look. Believe. Come. Look to the cross and live in the light.

    John 3v1-8 "Born From Above"

    Born from Above John 3:1–8 · Jesus and Nicodemus · Come and See – Week 10 Night→Born→Spirit→Wind MAIN IDEA OF THE SERMON Admiring Jesus is not the same as being born of Him. New life is never achieved. It is received as a gift from the Spirit. THE BURNING QUESTION Have I only admired Jesus from a distance, or have I been born from above?  Four movements MOVEMENT 1 · JOHN 3:1–2 Night          Seeking is not the same as being born. SAY IT SIMPLY - Nicodemus knows a lot about Jesus. He still needs to meet Him. MOVEMENT 2 · JOHN 3:3–4 Born           Nobody earns a birth. SAY IT SIMPLY - You cannot climb into the kingdom. You must be born into it. MOVEMENT 3 · JOHN 3:5–6 Spirit          God gives new life. SAY IT SIMPLY - God washes us clean and God makes us new. We receive both. MOVEMENT 4 · JOHN 3:7–8 Wind          You can’t see it. You can see what it does. SAY IT SIMPLY - No one controls the Spirit. A changed life shows He is at work. Respond The invitation HEAD Know - New birth is a gift from God through Christ. It is not built from your résumé. HEART Leave - Leave the night-time safety of “good enough” and come into the light. HANDS Receive - Open them to take the gift. Then let the Spirit move you into obedience.   Three practices 1 Check your credentials. Write down what you have trusted: church, family, morality, knowledge. Lay each one at the feet of Jesus. 2 Ask for the Spirit. Pray daily for the Spirit to renew your heart, expose what is false, and grow visible fruit. What if we measured by the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), the gauges of our Christlikeness? 3 Keep a lamp on. Welcome the questioning, the curious and the almost-believers with patience and truth. Nicodemus took years to come into the open (John 7:50; 19:39).     CLOSING REMARK You cannot work your way into the kingdom or wait for it to blow past you. So come out of the night, bring nothing but your need, and let the Spirit of Jesus make you new at the altar today.

    John 2v12-25 "Cleansing the Temple"

    Come and See, Week 9 | Cleansing the Temple | John 2:12–25 | Opening Reading: John 2:19-22 Big Idea: Being impressed by Jesus is not the same as being known by Jesus. Open — "Same Man, Five Verses" Cana: best wine saved for last. Five verses later: a whip, flipped tables, coins flying. Same chapter. Same man. Don't smooth that tension — sit in it. That's your hook line: "He didn't come to clean up your religion. He came to replace it with Himself." 1. Zeal and a Whip (v.12–16) — He makes the whip before He acts. That's not rage — that's resolve.REMEMBER: "The problem wasn't corruption. It was crowding." The merchants weren't scamming anyone — they were legitimate infrastructure, sanctioned by the priests, solving a real pilgrim problem. The wrong was location: they'd taken over the Court of the Gentiles — the one square foot of temple real estate set aside for outsiders to pray.LAND IT HERE: "Legitimate business. Wrong address.""My Father's house" — not "our." Quiet, massive claim.2. A Verse and a Demand (v.17–18) — Disciples remember Psalm 69:9 — a psalm about suffering for devotion. They're filing this moment under suffering, not victory. (This same psalm resurfaces at the cross — John 15:25, 19:28-29. Zeal here previews Calvary later.)Leaders skip "was He right?" and jump straight to "prove your credentials."Sticky line: "Demanding credentials is easier than doing self-examination."3. Two Words, One Move (v.19–22) — Standing in the outer courts (hieron) He just cleared, Jesus points somewhere else entirely — the Holy of Holies itself (naos): "Destroy this temple, and I'll raise it in three days."He's not defending His actions. He's relocating God's address.Sticky line: "He's not reforming the system. He's replacing it — with a person."Nobody in the room gets it. It only makes sense after the resurrection. Say that out loud — the confusion was real, not stupidity.4. Impressed Isn't the Same as Known (v.23–25) — Same Greek word (pisteuo) both directions: many believed in Him; He did not entrust Himself to them.Sticky line: "You can applaud from the cheap seats and still be a stranger to Him."Why the caution? He already knows what's in a person. This isn't cynicism — it's clarity. (Sets up Nicodemus in ch.3 — someone Jesus does eventually trust, but only after real cost.)Close — Two Invitations To the impressed: Stop admiring from the edge. Come be known.To believers: You're being built into His house — let Him clear whatever's crowding out worship.Send-off line: "He's not just cleaning house anymore. He IS the house. Come be known in it."

    Habitudes - 3. Be With Jesus (Wednesday Nights)

    HABITUDE 3 — BE WITH JESUS Abide in His Presence "He appointed twelve... to be with him." — Mark 3:14 Enter: Before the Twelve did anything for Jesus, they were called to be with him. Function follows presence, not the other way around. Examine: Mark 3:13–15 — the appointment of the apostles lists "to be with him" before "to send them out." Expose: Modern discipleship often reverses this order, measuring maturity by output before formation has had time to take root. Encounter: Jesus values relationship over performance. He forms his followers in proximity long before he deploys them in mission. Embody: Prayer, Scripture, silence, worship, Sabbath, abiding. Extend: People can only demonstrate a life they've actually lived to someone else. Abiding is what makes discipleship transferable. Cross-references: John 15:4–5; Psalm 27:4; Luke 10:38–42 Scholar's voice: Dallas Willard argued that spiritual transformation happens not through sheer effort but through arranging our lives around practices that keep us in Jesus' presence. Formation is a byproduct of abiding, not a substitutefor it. Application / development process: Establish one unhurried, undistracted fifteen-minute block daily this month with no agenda but presence; no study plan, no output required. Discussion questions: What's the difference between learning about Jesus and living with Jesus?What crowds out unhurried time with him in your week?What would it look like to measure your week by presence rather than productivity?

    Habitudes - 2. Follow Me (Wednesday Nights)

    HABITUDE 2 — FOLLOW ME Make a Decision "Follow me." — Matthew 4:19 Enter: Curiosity has an expiration date. Eventually it must become commitment or it fades into spectatorship. Examine: Matthew 4:18–22 — Peter, Andrew, James and John leave nets and boats immediately when Jesus calls. No negotiation is recorded. Expose: We want the benefits of Jesus without the reordering of Jesus. The disciples' abrupt obedience exposes how much we tend to qualify our own self-affirmation or loathing. Encounter: Jesus doesn't ask for admiration; he issues a summons. Following him means turning from one way of life toward another. Embody: Repentance, faith, baptism, public identification with Christ. Extend: Discipleship is caught as much as (maybe more so for some) taught. Your decision becomes an invitation for someone watching you. We all follow something or someone, the question is what or who? Cross-references: Luke 9:23–25; Romans 10:9–10; Acts 2:38 Scholar's voice: Dietrich Bonhoeffer's distinction between costly and cheap grace is instructive here. Grace that costs Jesus everything cannot be received by us as though it costs nothing. Application / development process: Identify one area of life you have kept off-limits to Jesus' authority. Name it in prayer or with a trusted friend this week. Discussion questions: What has following Jesus cost you so far?Is there a "net" you're still holding onto?What would immediate obedience look like in your current season?
