The Shake Up Podcast with Candice Harvey

Candice Harvey

Welcome to The Shake Up — your weekly dose of real talk with me, Performance Coach Candice Harvey. I’m a former corporate HR professional, and since 2018 I’ve been running my own shake-up business helping teams and individuals thrive.  I know Monday to Friday in the corporate world isn’t always cute outfits, hanging with your work bestie, and popping out real quick for a matcha—It’s more like surviving back-to-back meetings that should’ve been quick calls, dodging the people you can’t stand, and pretending you’re still productive by 3pm. Most of the time, we’re stuck in our own heads, running on autopilot, watching the clock and wondering why we can’t just do the damn thing we said we were going to do. That’s where me and my fancy rode mic come in. I’m here to shake you up — with straight-talking strategies, a smidge of humour, and my obsession with human behaviour in the workplace… because I get it, I did it for 15 years.   I’m a former corporate HR pro, and since 2018 I’ve been running my own shake-up business, helping teams and individuals go from “things are busy” to “things are GREAT!” So, if you’re ready for a nudge at work, a perspective shift, or maybe even a loving kick up the bum… you’re in the right place.

    117. Two Competitors Walk Into a Conference… (feat. Ange Davies)

Send Candice a text! Two competitors walk into a conference... and instead of sizing each other up, they swapped pricing, shared strategies and became each other's biggest cheerleaders.  True story ;)  This week Candice is joined by Ange Davies from Mind Your Grit, and they're getting into why collaboration might be the single best thing you do for your career, your business, and honestly, your life. In This Episode: Candice and Ange unpack one of the most common (and quietly costly) patterns in workplaces and businesses - defaulting to competition when collaboration would serve you way much better.  Whether you're running your own business or working alongside colleagues every day, this one's for you. You'll hear them get into: Why people default to competition instead of collaboration  The hidden cost of a competitive mindset in workplaces  What true day-to-day collaboration actually looks like  What’s really going on when someone feels threatened by a peer  How trust is built (and broken) in professional relationships  Why their own relationship has never felt competitive - even in the same industry  What to do if you’re stuck in comparison mode right nowThis is a straight conversation about fear, insecurity, and what becomes possible when you stop protecting yourself from people who could actually help you grow. Because most people aren’t stuck because they lack talent. They’re stuck because they’re competing in rooms where they could be collaborating. 116. From Book to Audiobook: What No One Tells You. Miish Grixti Has The Mic.

Send Candice a text! Three months ago, The Shake Up landed in the world. And what three months it's been. I didn't know what to expect when I put that book out...  Honestly, I half convinced myself only my mum would read it.  But then the messages started coming in - from people I know, people I don't, and one lady in Spain (still can't get over that one). And somewhere in the middle of launch week, an email landed in my inbox from someone offering to come on the podcast and interview me about the book at the three-month mark. That person was Miish Grixti. And that email is one of the nicest things anyone has ever offered to do for me. I met Miish about four years ago at a business workshop in Brisbane - and the moment you meet her, you just can't help but love her.  She's warm, she's real, she's the kind of person who makes you feel like you've known her forever.  She's also a creative strategist and coach who helps business owners shape and sell their work - especially when they're too close to it to see it clearly.  She's the founder of WriteLikeYou.app and has spent the past eight years helping coaches, creators, authors and personal brands close the gap between how good their work is and how well it actually lands. Oh - and she lives on a dairy farm in northwest Tasmania surrounded by rolling green hills and 500 cows.  Today, I handed her the mic. And she asked me everything... eeeekk... In this episode we talk about: What the past three months of having a book in the world has actually felt like - the messages, the surprises, the moments that stopped me in my tracksThe writing process - how I wrote The Shake Up in three focused weeks and why I couldn't have done it any other wayThe audiobook - what I thought it would be like vs what it actually was (spoiler: sweat. so much sweat.)What I'd do differently if I launched it againWhat's next - including a hint at book two (and three) and who it's forGrab The Shake Up book — available now in paperback and audiobook. Grab your copy HERE.  Connect with Miish Grixti: Instagram or https://miishgrixti.com/ - go do it now - she's AMAZING! 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently.  📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__, and let me know what hit home. 115. How To Speak More Confidently On Stage… Like Candice Harvey.

Send Candice a text! This episode wasn’t planned… and that’s exactly why you need to listen. Last week I was in Canberra MCing a conference for the Risk Management Institute of Australasia - nearly 400 people, massive keynote lineup, big energy. I was there to MC. That was the job. But after Day 1, something interesting happened… Person after person kept coming up to me asking the same thing: “How do I become a more confident speaker like you?” So… I mentioned it to the interim CEO - and within minutes, I was locked in to run a session the very next day. We ran it straight after Todd Sampson’s keynote (no pressure)… and the room was packed. Seats full, people standing at the back, leaning in. Which told me one thing... This is something people really want. So, I’ve taken that exact session - the one I pulled together overnight - and brought it straight to The Shake Up Podcast. If you’ve ever: Avoided speaking up in a meetingSaid no to an opportunity because you felt “not ready”Or thought “I could never speak like that”This one’s for you. No fluff. No theory. Just real, practical ways to help you back yourself and start showing up differently. Because confidence doesn’t come before you do the thing… It comes because you did. Hit play - and let’s shake things up. 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently.  📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__, and let me know what hit home. 112. Dance: It’s Not About Getting It Right - It’s About Getting In The Room - with Vanessa Friscia

Send Candice a text! How many times have you said, “I’d love to try that…” — and then didn’t? Yeah… same. This episode is your nudge (or let’s be honest… your loving push) to stop overthinking it and just get in the room.  Today, I’m joined by the incredible Vanessa Friscia, founder of V-Hub Dance - and someone who has completely changed the way I think about confidence, fun, and trying new things as an adult. Because here’s the truth: Most people love the idea of dancing… But very few actually do it. And it’s not because they can’t - it’s because they’re overthinking it. In this episode, we unpack: Why adults find it so hard to try something new (even when they want to) Why pushing past the nerves and just showing up is worth it revery timeWhy dance is one of the most powerful tools for confidence, wellbeing, and self-expression The unexpected life lessons that come from being a beginner again Why “getting it wrong” might be exactly what you need How to bring more fun, movement, and risk-taking into your life Because the goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s not even to be good. It’s to get in the room.  About Vanessa Friscia Vanessa Friscia is the founder of V-Hub Dance, a Brisbane-based dance studio dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where people of all backgrounds and experience levels can grow in confidence through movement. 111. How to Pitch Me to Your Boss (Without It Being Awkward)

Send Candice a text! Ever thought… “My team needs this.” “My boss would benefit from this.” “We 100% need a shake up…” …and then said nothing? This episode was sparked by a listener who replied to my email asking: “How do I pitch you to my boss?” And I thought - I know she’s not the only one. This episode is here to make it ridiculously easy for you. Because this isn’t about selling me (ick). It’s not even about pitching me. It’s about introducing me. In this episode, I share 5 simple ways to do exactly that:  How to casually forward a podcast episode (no pitch required)  How to use my emails to do the talking for you How to share a LinkedIn post without making it weird  Exactly what to say in your next 1:1 with your boss The “no-risk” ask that makes it easy for them to say yes No awkwardness. No overthinking. No sales pitch required. Worst case? They say no. Best case? You change how your team communicates, works, and shows up… every single day. All from one conversation. Enjoy - and make sure you share it with your friends if you found the episode useful.  I can't wait to shake up YOUR team! 110. Stop Avoiding No: How to Get Comfortable Being Rejected

Send Candice a text! Rejection. It’s a word most of us say we’re “fine with” - until it actually happens.  A job application that goes nowhere. A proposal that gets knocked back. A meeting where your idea lands politely… then disappears. Suddenly, you’re questioning everything - your capability, your choices, even your latest haircut. In this episode of The Shake Up Podcast, I unpack why rejection hits deeper than the moment itself, why we avoid it, and how we can build a healthier, more productive relationship with it - especially at work. In this episode I cover: • Why rejection isn’t a verdict on your worth — it’s data  • How fear of rejection keeps you playing small and holding back  • Three ways to get comfortable leaning into rejection, so it fuels growth, not paralysis If you want bigger opportunities, better conversations, and more momentum in your career, your relationship with rejection has to improve.  The people doing the most interesting work aren’t the ones avoiding “no” - they’re the ones showing up, taking the knocks, and keeping going. 🎧 If this episode resonates, please share it!  📲 Tag me @candiceharvey__ and tell me - what’s one “no” that taught you more than any “yes”?  Go lean into rejection.  Go take the risk.  Go shake things up.  🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently.  📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__, and let me know what hit home.
