A Sikh is a follower of Sikhi, a monotheistic religion that originated in the 15th century from the Punjab region in the Indian subcontinent. The term “Sikh” means disciple or student. Gurdwara means the gateway through which the Guru can be reached for spiritual guidance. In 1974, the Sikh community of Rochester began meeting once a month at various private homes for worship.
