    Episode 180 - Three Generations, No Filter

    The fan favorite is BACK. ❤️ This week, Grandma Jann pulled up a chair, let her guard down, and gave us the completely unfettered, unfiltered version of herself... and honestly, we could have listened to her all day. 😂 We talked about the good old days, the stories that have been told a hundred times, the ones we somehow had never heard before, and all the little pieces of our lives that have been intertwined across three generations. And somewhere along the way, Grandma apparently decided she had absolutely nothing to hide, which made this one of the funniest and most genuine conversations we've ever had with her. There are stories, memories, lots of laughing, a little reminiscing, and plenty of moments where we remembered exactly why Grandma Jann is a fan favorite. This episode doesn't really feel like an interview. It feels like sitting around the kitchen table with your mom and your grandma, talking about life until you realize hours have gone by.     Episode 179 - From Pimples to Plane Crashes

    This week, Hannah is settling into her new HR role, and let’s just say… work is workin’. 😂 There’s a lot going on, she’s learning a ton, and some days are just a little more stressful than others. Meanwhile, we have some questions about delivery services, accountability, and why getting something delivered when they said it would be delivered apparently feels like asking for a miracle. Then things get medical... sort of. Hannah tells us about a pimple situation that went VERY wrong, Mom shares what happened to Dr. Pimple Popper, and somehow we also end up discussing anesthesiologists, back problems, and Hannah's return to retainers after pretending they didn't exist for entirely too long. But there are sweet moments too. We talk about answered prayers, including Hannah's retainer saga and one of Mom's favorite stories about praying over Grandma's missing keys. HB has also apparently developed a caffeine vocabulary, because he knows exactly what Mom and Grandma mean when they start talking about getting coffee. 😂 Mom gives us an update from Madison, Florida, introduces us to her latest obsession with the woodpeckers at the backyard bird feeder, and we recap our Harry Potter movie night, complete with foods that had names almost as entertaining as the movie. And for Hideous and Horrific History, Hannah brings back The Rest of the Story with the incredible true story of a young serviceman who survived a terrifying plane crash in the Pacific, swam for his life, and eventually found himself in a career where danger, grit, and a certain squint would make him one of the most recognizable men in Hollywood.     Episode 178 - A Haircut Miracle, A God Wink & The Girl Named Edda

    This week, we’re finding God in the little things… including some seriously cool new technology and a moment with Meghan that made us stop and say, “Okay, God. We see You.” Hannah cuts Mom’s hair and, against all odds, it was actually GOOD. 😂 Casey may or may not be getting a new truck, Dad brings us his quote of the week, work is still workin’, and apparently Grandma can make a friend absolutely anywhere, including with a flight attendant at 30,000 feet. Then, because one Grandma story is simply never enough around here, we’ve got another one that had us saying, “Yep. That tracks.” 😂 And for Hideous and Horrific History, Hannah tells the incredible story of a little girl named Edda, a child who lived through Nazi occupation, starvation, war, and unimaginable loss before the world would eventually know her by another name: Audrey Hepburn.     Episode 177 - God Winks, Steinhatchee, and a City in the Shadow of a Volcano

    This week, Hannah and Barbi start with a conversation about some of the quotes that have stuck with them over the years, the labels people put on us, and why we don't always have to accept them as our own. There are also a few God winks along the way... and somehow, cauliflower ear makes its way into the conversation, too. Because of course it does. Then Hannah recaps her family's trip to Steinhatchee, from scalloping and time on the water to all the fun that came with getting away for a few days. Barbi shares some of her own history with Steinhatchee, and they talk about what makes that little corner of Florida so special. And finally, Hideous and Horrific History is back! Hannah takes everyone to the Caribbean island of Martinique in 1902 for the incredible and devastating story of Mount Pelée, the destruction of Saint-Pierre, and one survivor whose terrible circumstances may have been the very thing that saved his life.     This week, Hannah and Barbi are back with one of those episodes that somehow manages to be sweet, funny, fascinating, and just a little bit horrifying all at once. They talk about those little “God winks” that seem to show up at exactly the right time, the importance and adventures of date nights, and plenty of everyday life in between. Then Hannah brings back a little Hideous and Horrific History, sharing some true stories from the past that prove once again that history is considerably stranger than anything we could make up. There are laughs, meaningful moments, some history you may wish you could unlearn, and plenty of conversation along the way. It’s a little bit of faith, a little bit of life, and a little bit of “WHY DID PEOPLE DO THAT?” Come hang out with us. We saved you a spot!

    Episode 175 - History Is Weirder Than Fiction

    This week, Hannah and Barbi have a LOT going on. Hannah and the family are getting ready to head to Steinhatchee for a scalloping trip, which somehow leads to fishing with HB and the surprising realization that apparently nobody in town has the right worms. There are also some sweet updates from home, including HB absolutely loving his new preschool, which Hannah and Barbi are very happy to admit they were wrong about. Isla makes her presence known in a slightly less adorable way by throwing up on Hannah, and their friend Kylie joins the fun from Boston while literally having a catheter placed. You know, normal podcast stuff. Then things get historical. Barbi shares the fascinating story of Narcissus and Marcus Whitman before Hannah takes everyone to two places you probably won't be adding to your vacation itinerary anytime soon: Yellowstone's infamous "Zone of Death" and Centralia, Pennsylvania, where a fire has been burning underground for decades. And because apparently an underground fire wasn't enough danger for one episode, Mom wraps things up with the story of how she solved a mole problem with gasoline. Was it effective? Almost. Was it a good idea? Absolutely not. It's scalloping plans, family chaos, strange history, dangerous decisions, and a whole lot of laughs. Come hang out with us. We saved you a spot!

    Episode 174 - Lunchbox Letters, Leon Crane, and Laura Ingalls

    This week, Hannah and Barbi cover a little bit of everything, starting with growing up, moving around, and a sweet tradition Hannah wants to start with her own kids: writing letters for them to keep, including little notes tucked into their lunches. From there, Mom shares that she officially finished the entire Little House on the Prairie book series, which leads to some fascinating stories about Laura Ingalls Wilder’s real life and just how much history and backstory never made it onto the television show. That sends the conversation west to the Oregon Trail before Hannah shares the incredible survival story of Lt. Leon Crane, who somehow survived alone in the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash during World War II. Of course, there’s also Dad’s Quote of the Week, a new installment of Mom’s “Karen Moments,” although she would VERY much like the record to show that she was not actually a "Karen," and a few Work Wowies from Hannah. They wrap things up talking about traditions with outfits and some of those little things families do that somehow become the memories you hold onto forever.     Episode 173 - Mercy Dogs, Creepy Cameras, and Preschool Drama

    This week, Hannah and Barbi cover everything from growing up to modern technology, with quite a few stops in between. Hannah reflects on what it was like moving around so much with a dad in the military, while Barbi had the completely opposite experience of spending her entire childhood in the same home. Then Hannah brings a fascinating piece of history to the table with the story of the mercy dogs of World War I and the incredible work they did on the battlefield. There’s also Dad’s Quote of the Week before the conversation takes a decidedly more modern turn with Flock cameras, driver monitoring systems, and some of the technology that has Hannah wondering just how much surveillance is too much. They also ask a question that somehow makes them both feel ancient: What did we actually DO before cell phones? Things get a little more personal when Hannah talks about standards of excellence and a recent preschool interaction that made her think twice about what she expects from the people caring for HB. From there, Hannah and Barbi talk about why some businesses leave such a lasting impression, the importance of making people feel genuinely seen, and why sometimes failing is an important part of eventually getting it right.
