#209 - Katelyn Scott setting the barrel racing world on fire

Katelyn Scott joins The Luke Branquinho Show after a 2025 season that put her name on the barrel racing map in a big way. From a Caldwell win that helped set her season in motion to making the NFR and placing in six of 10 rounds, Katelyn takes us behind the scenes of a career year — including the tough decisions, sacrifices and perspective that helped get her there. Katelyn talks about her horse Peanut, including the decision to turn out of Cody and head to Calgary, the confidence-building run that followed, and the incredible NFR moment when Peanut went down at the first barrel but got back up and finished the pattern. She also shares what it meant to carry on her family's rodeo legacy. Her great-aunt Margaret Owens Montgomery was the first president of the Girls Rodeo Association in 1948 and a world champion, making Katelyn's journey to the NFR part of a much larger family history in rodeo. Plus, Katelyn opens up about the people who have helped guide her career, learning how to lose gracefully, finding perspective when things don't go your way, and what people often misunderstand about her away from the arena. **In this episode:** * Caitlin's breakout 2025 season * The Caldwell and San Bernardino wins * Making the decision to turn out of Cody * The bond between Caitlin and Peanut * Making the NFR and placing in six rounds * Peanut's unforgettable fall in Round 7 * Caitlin's family's rodeo legacy * Her great-aunt Margaret Owens Montgomery's history * The importance of having people in your corner * Learning how to lose gracefully * Finding perspective through the highs and lows of rodeo * What people get wrong about Caitlin ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ 📧 Get in touch: lbs@banditproductionco.com 🌐 Website: www.thelukebranquinhoshow.com Follow us on: ➤ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukebranquinhoshow/ ➤ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thelukebranquinhoshow ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 25-02: HE'S BACK BABY! Stetson Wright Breaks Down His Comeback, World Titles & the NFR Controversy

This week on The Luke Branquinho Show, Luke sits down with Stetson Wright following one of the most talked-about comeback seasons in professional rodeo. After a serious injury, Wright returned to the sport and captured two gold buckles at the 2025 National Finals Rodeo, winning the PRCA Bull Riding World Championship and the PRCA All-Around World Championship. His momentum has continued into 2026 with standout performances at Denver and Fort Worth, reaffirming his place at the top of the sport. The season was made even more historic alongside his family. Statler Wright claimed his first gold buckle as Saddle Bronc Riding World Champion, Ryder Wright finished as Reserve World Champion, and the brothers went 1-2-3 in the final Saddle Bronc world standings. One moment at the NFR became one of the most debated calls of the year. In Round 6 of saddle bronc riding, Wright appeared to complete a clean ride, only for it to be ruled a no-score on a controversial mark-out call. Despite instant replay, the decision stood and sparked widespread debate across the rodeo world. ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ 📧 Get in touch: lbs@banditproductionco.com 🌐 Website: www.thelukebranquinhoshow.com Follow us on: ➤ Instagram ➤ TikTok ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ Thanks for listening! Episode 25-01: Barry Berg of Cactus Ropes on Craft, Performance, and the Perfect Rope

This week on The Luke Branquinho Show, Luke sits down with Barry Berg, General Manager of Cactus Ropes, for a more in-depth conversation following last week’s episode. Barry shares the craftsmanship, innovation, and grit behind one of the most trusted rope brands in rodeo. With more than 34 years in business, Cactus Ropes has earned its reputation through consistency, hands-on craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of what ropers need at every level. The company ships over 1,000 ropes a day, maintaining the same attention to detail that helped build the brand from the ground up. Barry walks through the stories behind iconic ropes like the Bad Boy, Magnet, Hypnotic, Amigo, Kool Cat, Thriller, and Swagger, how a devastating factory fire in 2004 reshaped the operation, and what it truly takes to develop what they call the “perfect rope.” He also reflects on a major turning point in 2009, when Trevor Brazile joined the Cactus Ropes team, a partnership that helped elevate the brand and solidify its place at the highest level of professional rodeo. Blending history, innovation, and real-world experience, this episode offers an inside look at the work and mindset behind ropes trusted by champions and everyday ropers alike. ━━━━━━━━━━ ★📧 Get in touch: lbs@banditproductionco.com 🌐 Website: www.thelukebranquinhoshow.com Follow us on: ➤ Instagram ➤ TikTok ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ Thanks for watching! In this episode, Luke welcomes 2012 PRCA World Champion Bull Rider Cody Teel, Callie Adams, Director of Events at Montana Silversmiths, and Barry Berg of Cactus Ropes for a look at the craftsmanship, people, and perspectives that shape the Western world. Cody reflects on the bittersweet side of stepping away from competition — the pride in what he accomplished and the challenge of watching the sport’s biggest event from the sidelines. He talks about that familiar “December fever” the NFR brings every year, why it pulls every cowboy right back into the excitement, and why that fire often fades by spring. Callie shares insight into the artistry and legacy behind Montana Silversmiths’ nightly round buckles and world champion buckles, while Barry breaks down what goes into building the ropes trusted by top hands across the sport at Cactus Ropes. Together, they highlight the craftsmanship and culture driving the athletes and makers who keep rodeo moving forward. ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ 📧 Get in touch: lbs@banditproductionco.com 🌐 Website: www.thelukebranquinhoshow.com Follow us on: ➤ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukebranquinhoshow/ ➤ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thelukebranquinhoshow ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ Thanks for listening! Episode 24-05: Rodeo Rock & Real Talk: Jarrod Morris on Music, Farrier Life & NFR Moments

Jarrod Morris is opening the NFR at the Thomas & Mack on December 5 — and he’s bringing his full Rodeo Rock sound to the biggest stage in rodeo. Before he hits Vegas, he sat down with Luke for a conversation packed with music, grit, and the real stories behind his journey. Texas musician Jarrod Morris breaks down his path from farrier to full-time artist, why barrel racers call him a “pixie dancer,” and how shoeing horses actually fuels his songwriting. He talks about getting “holed up” in his dorm after wrecking his car — the moment that pushed him deeper into music — and why hyper-specific lyrics end up connecting with so many people. They dive into his new album Day Money, the punk-leaning cover of “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” and the high-energy track “Kick Rocks,” which he’s performing live when he opens the NFR. Jarrod also shares how he landed both his Dec 5 NFR performance and his Westgate show on Dec 12, thanks to Bo Gardner and a little help from Chancey Williams. ⭐ This Week’s Sponsor: Mountain High Furniture Huge thanks to Mountain High Furniture, a longtime craftspeople's operation led by John & Wendy Powers. Episode 24-04: Hailey Kinsel Returns: NFR Prep, Barrel Runs & Luke’s Arena Shenanigans

Four-time world champion Hailey Kinsel is back — and Luke does what Luke does best: drags her out to the Branquinho Arena for a little “friendly” NFR prep, a little coaching, and even more goofing off! Between the in-studio sit-down and arena time, they fine-tune her first barrel, laugh about the “Facebook warriors” who claim she blows past it, and talk through the real work that goes into sharpening up before Vegas. Hailey arrives at the 2025 NFR aiming for her fifth world title, coming off a season where Hailey's legendary horse, Sister, returned from last year’s NFR hamstring injury and placed at 20 out of 21 rodeos. She breaks down how she brought Sister back slowly, starting the winter on Spider and Reese, and how horses like Libby are being seasoned in high-pressure pens for the future. They also talk about Hailey’s fast-growing Youth Barrel Race, which expanded from a massive one-day event to a two-day blowout this year, with hundreds of runs, big-name sponsors, and tons of prizes. Hailey shares why being available to help riders — the way Luke once helped her — is something she’ll never take lightly. It’s real friendship, real coaching, and real prep for rodeo’s biggest stage... with plenty of laughs in between! ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ 📧 Get in touch: lbs@banditproductionco.com 🌐 Website: www.thelukebranquinhoshow.com Follow us on: ➤ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukebranquinhoshow/ ➤ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thelukebranquinhoshow ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ Thanks for watching! Episode 24-03: Jackie Crawford on Dominating 2025 & Raising the Bar Yet Again

Luke Branquinho sits down with 23-time World Champion Jackie Crawford, one of our FAVORITE returning guests, who’s having another standout year and dominating the arena with her trademark grit and precision! In 2025, Jackie became the first roper in WPRA history to surpass $1 million in career earnings, added another WPRA Team Roping Header World Championship, and continues to post strong results across multiple events — proving yet again why she’s one of the most accomplished competitors in rodeo. Luke and Jackie dig into the mental game, staying sharp through a long season, and what fuels her competitive drive. They even joke about the idea of a “soft retirement”… and how her current run makes that pretty hard to believe. Whether you rope, ride, or love hearing from true champions, this conversation brings insight, honesty, and that signature Jackie-Crawford toughness. ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ 📧 Get in touch: lbs@banditproductionco.com 🌐 Website: www.thelukebranquinhoshow.com Follow us on: ➤ Instagram: www.instagram.com/lukebranquinhoshow ➤ TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@thelukebranquinhoshow ━━━━━━━━━━ ★ Thanks for watching!
