    81. Book Club: “Be Ready When the Luck Happens” by Ina Garten

Ina Garten – aka the Barefoot Contessa – is the author of “Be Ready When The Luck Happens: A Memoir” (along with 13 New York Times bestselling cookbooks), a beloved Food Network personality, Instagram sensation, and cultural icon. This was a slightly different book club pick for us, and we loved it! Ina’s memoir not only has an incredible, eye-catching title, but it’s full of life lessons and business advice about productivity, hard work, and love hidden in many charming anecdotes and stories. For this book club chat, we dove into: - her unique career path and willingness to start something new (at any age) - having the right partner(s) to believe in and support you - the importance of trying many things to figure out what feels right - our favorite life and career lessons from Ina’s journey - and so much more! As Ina says, “You never know your good breaks from your bad ones.” Mentioned in the episode: “Be Ready When the Luck Happens” by Ina Garten: https://barefootcontessa.com/books/be-ready-when-the-luck-happens  Heather McMahan Does Ina Garten: https://www.instagram.com/heatherkmcmahan/tv/B976Ro1J1qP/  Ina Garten Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/inagarten  The Oprah Podcast with Ina Garten: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKs-2qufe80  SmashingGold: https://www.instagram.com/smashinggold/  MAED Beauty: https://www.maedbeauty.com Raven Ross Instagram Reel on “What You’re Not Changing, You’re Choosing”: https://www.instagram.com/p/DGYeEWZxKul/  _____________ Email us: pilotingpod@gmail.com IG: @pilotingpod Hosted on Acast. 80. Why Is Everyone Talking About Upskilling?

Upskilling is the hot word in the professional world lately. Whether you are looking to layoff-proof your job, or simply eager to attract more money, clients, and opportunities, it’s never a bad idea to continue growing your skills. As self-professed lifelong learners, we decided to hop on the mic to discuss what areas we want to level up in this year. We get into: - hard skills vs. soft skills  - whether everyone needs to learn AI - growing your skills with online courses, on nonprofit boards, or at your company - some of the classes and trainings we’re exploring this year - and great advice from Your Rich BFF, Shonda Rhimes, and more! 79. Are You Living Life In a Velvet Coffin (and Are You Ready To Get Out)?

Suzy Welch is a Professor of Management Practice at the NYU Stern School of Business, a business journalist, and best-selling author who coined the Velvet Coffin theory. This theory describes how waiting to change a job or life that’s comfortable – but not your big dream – puts you in a metaphorical “velvet coffin” with a lid that slowly closes and traps you. Yikes!  Our conversation dives into: - the difference between comfort, contentment, and complacency  - how this shows up for people who aren’t career-driven - understanding what drives you and clearly defining your dream(s) - & so much more!
