    A Look Eastward

Why does so much of the world’s attention keep turning toward the Middle East—and especially toward Israel and Jerusalem? In “A Look Eastward,” Pastor Kurt and Pat Coyle step back from the daily headlines to examine the larger biblical and historical picture. From the rebirth of the modern State of Israel and the return of the Jewish people to the land, to the Dead Sea Scrolls, the wars that followed 1948, the rise of global communications, 9/11, and the growing worldwide focus on Jerusalem, this conversation asks what we can actually observe—and what Scripture says we should be watching. The discussion also considers biblical prophecy, the Day of the Lord, the gathering of Israel, the role of Jerusalem, and the competing religious claims surrounding the Middle East. Rather than setting dates, the goal is to compare the world developing before us with the words Scripture has already given. How did a small piece of land in the Middle East become a matter of worldwide concern? Why does Jerusalem continue to occupy such an extraordinary place in world affairs? And how should Christians think about Israel, Islam, prophecy, and the events unfolding around them? A Look Eastward begins a larger conversation about history, prophecy, competing claims to truth, and the importance of examining those claims carefully through Scripture. The Appointed Way: When Man Changes What God Has Established

The Appointed Way Does God care how we worship Him, or only that our intentions are sincere? In this episode of God, Family & Country, Pastor Kurt and Pat Coyle examine a pattern that runs throughout Scripture: God appoints the way, and mankind repeatedly attempts to substitute something of its own. The discussion centers on 1 Kings 12, where Jeroboam creates an alternative system of worship for the northern kingdom—new worship centers, new priests, a new feast, and golden calves. It was convenient and religious. It claimed continuity with Israel's God. But God had not appointed it. From Eden and Babel to Nadab and Abihu, Uzzah, Saul, David, Solomon, and Jeroboam, the same question continually returns: Will man receive what God has established, or devise something better in his own heart? Pastor Kurt and Pat bring that question into the modern church, discussing biblical authority, false teaching, denominational traditions, spiritual counterfeits, discernment, and our responsibility to test everything we hear against Scripture. The serpent's question in the garden still echoes: “Has God indeed said…?” And Christ's answer remains: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” — John 14:6 A conversation about worship, obedience, discernment, and why God's appointed way cannot be improved by man's substitutes.

    Islam In America

n this episode of God, Family and Country, Pastor Kurt and Lance Hoppes examine a provocative interview with historian and author William J. Federer concerning the origins, history, and teachings of Islam. Federer traces Muhammad’s life from Mecca to Medina and discusses the development of Islam as a religious, political, and military movement. The conversation ranges from Islamic expansion and slavery to the Barbary pirates, Thomas Jefferson’s encounter with the Muslim states of North Africa, Sharia law, the Qur’an and Hadith, and the historic division between Sunni and Shia Islam. Pastor Kurt and Lance also consider one of the most important questions raised by the interview: What fundamentally separates Christianity from Islam? Federer contrasts an Islamic system centered upon submission, law, and following the example of Muhammad with the biblical message of redemption through the sacrifice of Christ. Scripture presents mankind as unable to make itself righteous before God and points instead to Jesus Christ—the Lamb of God who takes away sin. The discussion also considers moderate and fundamentalist Muslims, the historic decline of Christianity across parts of the Middle East, Islamic views of world peace and government, and the importance of distinguishing between Muslim people and the doctrines and political ideas being examined. Join Pastor Kurt and Lance for a conversation about Muhammad, Islam, history, religious liberty, biblical Christianity, and why understanding the difference between law and grace still matters today.
