Why Am I Talking To Myself?

Zaineb Afzal

Am I the only one who randomly runs lines from my own book while washing dishes? Or answers questions no one has asked me while folding laundry? Or has full-blown debates in her head as if she's on trial while getting dressed? Creativity is messy, intrusive, and frankly haunting in the most absurd ways. I am an aspiring author with a Master's degree in English Lit and ten years of experience doing the practical things in the morning and playing the tortured writer at night. Here's the dare: Let's stop calling it a "hobby" and confess what it's actually doing to our heads. I'll go first.
