    859 Stephen: Faithful to the End Acts 6–7

    Friday, October 2nd: Stephen’s courage before persecution grew from a life already surrendered to God through ordinary service. When false witnesses accused him and the religious council turned against him, he spoke the truth while keeping his eyes fixed on Jesus. Hebrews repeatedly says that Jesus finished His saving work and sat down at God’s right hand, yet Stephen saw Him standing—an image many Christians understand as Jesus rising to welcome His faithful servant home. As Stephen was stoned, he entrusted himself to Jesus and asked God to forgive his attackers. His final prayer reflected the grace of Christ before Saul, the man who would later become the apostle Paul. Stephen’s story reminds us that faithfulness is not measured by earthly success, but by trusting Jesus and leaving the results with Him.

    858 Equipped by the Great Shepherd Hebrews 13:20–25 (Jesus is Better, Part 45)

    Thursday, Oct 1st: In the final episode of our Jesus Is Better series, Hebrews closes with a prayer to the God of peace who raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus is not only our great High Priest but also the Great Shepherd who leads, protects, and faithfully cares for His people. God does not merely command us to do His will; He equips us with everything good we need and works within us to produce what pleases Him. The Christian life is therefore not simply our work for God, but God’s gracious work in and through us. The letter ends with a fitting reminder that everything we have received—from forgiveness to endurance—comes through grace. Keep your eyes on Jesus, trusting the Great Shepherd to lead you home.     857 A Sacrifice of Praise Hebrews 13:15–19 (Jesus is Better, Part 44)

    Wednesday, September 30th: Hebrews 13:15–19 shows us that worship is far more than singing inside a church building. Through Jesus, we continually offer God a sacrifice of praise—even when life is painful, confusing, or uncertain. Our worship also takes shape through doing good, sharing what we have, and caring for the people around us. Hebrews calls believers to cooperate with faithful spiritual leaders, who will answer to Christ for how they watch over His people. Those leaders also need our prayers for wisdom, integrity, courage, and endurance.     Tuesday, September 29th: Hebrews 13 reminds us that while everything around us changes, Jesus Christ remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. We are called to remember faithful leaders, examine the outcome of their lives, and imitate their faith rather than merely admiring their personalities. Our hearts are strengthened by grace, not by religious rules or rituals that cannot transform us. Jesus suffered outside the city gate, accepting rejection and disgrace to make us holy through His blood. Following Him may also take us beyond comfort, familiarity, and the approval of others.     Monday, September 28th: Hebrews 13:1–6 shows us what an unshakable life looks like in everyday practice. Because Jesus continues to love us, we can continue loving one another, welcoming strangers, and standing beside people who suffer. We are called to honor marriage, remain sexually faithful, and refuse to let money become our source of security. Contentment does not mean ignoring genuine needs; it means trusting that God’s presence is greater than anything we lack. God promises never to leave or abandon His people, allowing us to live generously rather than fearfully. The world around us may shake, but the Lord remains our helper.     854 A Kingdom That Cannot Be Shaken Hebrews 12:25–29 (Jesus Is Better, Part 41)

    Friday, September 25th: Hebrews 12:25–29 warns us not to ignore the God who has spoken clearly through His Son. God promises one final shaking in which everything temporary and unstable will be removed, leaving only what can truly endure. The things we often trust—money, health, careers, institutions, and even our own plans—cannot bear the weight of our ultimate confidence. Through Jesus, however, we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken. That gift should produce gratitude and worship marked by reverence and awe.     853 A Better Word Hebrews 12:18–24 (Jesus Is Better, Part 40)

    Thursday, September 24th: Hebrews 12:18–24 contrasts the fear and distance of Mount Sinai with the welcome and celebration of Mount Zion. Sinai revealed God’s holiness and humanity’s need for a mediator, while Zion shows what Jesus has accomplished by bringing us near to God. Through Christ, believers have come to the heavenly Jerusalem, the joyful gathering of God’s people, and the Judge who welcomes us because justice has been satisfied. Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant, and His blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Where sin declares us guilty and shame tells us to stay away, the blood of Jesus announces forgiveness, reconciliation, and welcome.     852 Strengthen What Is Weak Hebrews 12:12–17 (Jesus Is Better, Part 39)

    Wednesday, September 22nd: Hebrews 12:12–17 calls weary believers to strengthen their tired hands, steady their weakened knees, and continue following Jesus. God’s discipline is intended to restore us, so we must make straight paths that lead toward healing rather than returning to the sins that keep tripping us. We are also commanded to pursue peace, holiness, and the grace of God while watching over one another. The warning about a root of bitterness reminds us that hidden unbelief and compromise can eventually harm an entire community. Esau’s story shows the danger of trading something lasting and valuable for the satisfaction of an immediate desire.
