    89. Healing My Father Wound: My Story Growing Up Without a Dad

In this deeply personal Father's Day episode, Jess shares her experience of growing up without her father present and reflects on the ways that absence shaped her identity, relationships, and sense of self. She opens up about the wounds that developed in the absence of a consistent father figure—including abandonment, low self-worth, people-pleasing, hyper-independence, and looking outside herself for validation, love, and belonging. Jess also shares her healing journey and the tools that have helped her reconnect with herself over the years, including traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy, mindset and subconscious work through To Be Magnetic (TBM), grief work, humor, supportive relationships, and learning to meet the needs she once hoped others would fulfill. This conversation is an honest reflection on what it means to grieve what you didn't receive, make sense of the patterns that emerged as a result, and slowly build a more compassionate relationship with yourself. Whether you grew up without a father, experienced childhood abandonment, or recognize yourself in the patterns of seeking approval, fearing rejection, or struggling to feel fully chosen, this episode is a reminder that our wounds may influence us—but they don't have to define us. Healing is possible, and you're not alone in the process. 87. Healthier Relationships, Healthier Life with Lee Baucom

Today on the podcast, Jess is joined by Lee Baucom — a marriage therapist, relationship coach, host of the Save The Marriage Podcast, and author with over 30 years of experience helping people build healthier relationships and happier lives. While relationships may not be the first thing that comes to mind in conversations around health and wellness, they play a huge role in our overall well-being. The quality of our relationships can impact stress levels, nervous system regulation, habits, emotional health, and even the way we care for ourselves day to day. In this conversation, Jess and Lee explore the powerful connection between health and relationships, diving into the deeper patterns that shape the way people communicate, connect, and navigate conflict. They talk about: The difference between relationship coaching and marriage therapy — and how each can support couples in different ways depending on the challenges they’re facing Symptoms vs. root causes in marriage, including how recurring conflict is often rooted in deeper disconnection rather than surface-level issues How couples can unconsciously “pause” their relationship over time by prioritizing logistics, stress, work, or parenting while slowly neglecting intentional connection The 3 dimensions of connection, and why emotional connection alone isn’t always enough for relationships to thrive What is and isn’t in your control within relationships, and how focusing on what you can influence can create meaningful shifts in the dynamic The power each person has to influence change in a relationship, even when both partners aren’t approaching growth in the same way How shifting from a “me vs. you” mindset to a “with me” mindset can completely change the way couples approach conflict and communication  This episode offers a thoughtful perspective on how healthier relationships can support healthier lives. 85. Why You Don’t Feel Proud of Yourself (And How to Change That)

In this episode of Happiness with Jess, we’re diving into why so many high-achieving, growth-minded people struggle with self-pride—even when they’re making real progress.  If your default thoughts sound like “I should be further along,” or “It’s not enough,” —this episode will help you understand why. We’re breaking down how your inner critic, conditioning, and even your brain’s natural negativity bias keep you stuck focusing on what’s missing instead of what’s working. Jess shares how these patterns develop, why pride can feel uncomfortable (or even undeserved), and how to start shifting your mindset so you can finally feel proud of yourself—without needing perfection. You’ll also learn practical, real-life tools to: Stop minimizing your wins and moving the goalpost Break the cycle of comparison and “not enough” thinking Shift from relief (“I didn’t mess up”) to real pride Redefine success beyond weight loss, perfection, or outcomes  This episode is a powerful reminder that you don’t need to do more to feel proud—you need to practice acknowledging it more!  If you’ve been stuck in cycles of starting over, self-criticism, or feeling like you’re the problem, this conversation will help you start working with yourself instead of against yourself. ✨ Want deeper support?
