Welcome to the whisky legends podcast, where I’ll be speaking to one legend in particular, my Grandad Tim Morrison, whose been working in whisky for over 60 years helping to develop the industry, following his Grandad in the early 1900s. 
 
Throughout this series we hear about how things have evolved from someone with unique first-hand experience, from cleaning the Kiln and malting Barley in the 60s, buying Islay’s Bowmore distillery and pioneering the Single malt whisky category with his brother in the 70s, to building the Clydeside distillery in Glasgow with his son and my Uncle only a few years ago.
 
We’ll hear some incredible stories on how business has been done and how brands have grown, both at home and abroad over the last hundred years, so if you’re someone that enjoys hearing about the history, magic and lasting relationships behind the liquid you love, then this is the podcast for you.     Buying and growing Bowmore whisky distillery in 1963 - Episode 4

    In this episode we’ll hear about how my Great Grandad purchased Bowmore on Islay, how my Grandad oversaw a tank landing craft and super-crane named big beanie eventually managed to transport brand new stills and boiler into the distillery, and what this meant for the business in developing the vatted malt programme and the export of bulk blends, as well as the purchase of another distillery called Glen Garioch.

We’ll also hear about how marketing and PR was done in the 70s and how my grandad put together the first Bowmore single malt label design, just a little different, and a lot less expensive than today’s methods!

    In this episode we hear about my Grandad’s trip to the Remy Martin owners Chateaux where he secured a partnership that was to make Bowmore a global consumer brand with further investment going into the single malt programme. We’ll hear about some the struggles and mistakes made over this period that made things difficult for it to take off, and about the first ever Vintage malt whisky that may have saved the day.
