    Courageous Yes & The Grace of Community Speaker: Rev. Susie Choi Scripture: Luke 1: 26-56 The Christian needs another Christian who speaks God’s Word to them. They needs them again and again when they becomes uncertain and discouraged… The Christ in their own heart is weaker than the Christ we encounter in one another, when our own hearts are uncertain, another can remind us of what is sure —Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together (adapted for inclusive language I. Encounter: God’s Invitation - Unexpected divine encounter & invitation - Mary’s “Yes” is not devoid of questions, uncertainty, and fear - Courage is not the absence of fear or questions - Faith can mean saying “yes” while still wondering, “How can this be?” - Sometimes endings make room for new beginnings II. Community: God’s Provision - Mary goes to Elizabeth - Kin not only by blood but united by unmistakable work of God - God’s provision of community in the midst of isolation - Community can become relational well and sanctuary - A facet of God’s grace made tangible in the presence of another III. Encouragement: The Gift of Blessing - Elizabeth recognizes God’s work in Mary - To bless someone is to: — Recognize & Discern God’s work in them — Name what is seen (physically and spiritually) — Celebrate God’s grace in them - Who has helped you see what God is doing in you? - Whose courageous “yes” might God be inviting you to bless? IV. Song: When hope finds it’s voice - Mary’s hope finds its voice in community - Her personal encounter becomes a vision of God’s redeeming work in the world - Mary’s song is personal but it is not private - She does not sing in isolation

    Sermon Notes Faith Worth Following Speaker: Rev. Joey Ho Scripture: Hebrews 11 Big Idea: We don’t simply want to raise the next generation to know about God—we want to raise a generation that makes their faith their own. I. Every Generation Must Make Their Faith Their Own (vs. 1-7) II. Faith that is Remembered is Faith that is Transmitted (vs. 4-31) a. They had faith that chose God’s promises over earthly security b. They had faith that was forward thinking (vs. 39-40) Call to Action: The next generation doesn’t merely need better programs—they need faithful adults who model trust in Christ and invite them to run the same race, fixing their eyes on Jesus. We’re not asking for perfection, but we’re asking for persistence.

    Who are you here for? Speaker: Rev. Alex Chan Scripture: John 6 Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. —John 6:26-27 People want to Use Jesus, not Trust in Him. Temporal Food vs Eternal Food, What are you working for? Our assumptions and pride can prevent us from trusting in Jesus. Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” —John 6:35 You do not want to leave too, do you? Jesus asked the twelve. —John 6:67 What is your decision? Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God’ —John 6: 68-69

I. Assumption is the enemy of unity. (vv.10-12) – MINDSET II. Courageous communities confront before they condemn. (vv.13-20) – ACTION III. Restored understanding is worth the hard conversation. (vv.21-34) – RESOLUTION Application: Pray for someone in your life, community, or in the world who is in a state of conflict that is in need of God’s peace today.

    Standing Together in the Long Campaign

    Standing Together in the Long Campaign Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Moe Scripture: Joshua 10:1-12:24 The Big Idea: A courageous community is formed through long obedience together, because God does His deepest work in the long middle. Key Verse: Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time. —Joshua 11:18 NIV Point 1: Most of God’s Work Happens in the Long Middle - God’s promises are often fulfilled through sustained faithfulness rather than instant success. - The miracles demonstrated God’s power, but the long campaign revealed Israel’s trust. They kept following because God had promised to go before them. Community Application: Most of our growth doesn’t happen at conferences or retreats. God often does His deepest work in the long middle. Point 2: Endurance is a Community Discipline - What does a community that endures do? i. Share a common vision ii. Endures through mutual responsibility • “bear one another’s burdens…” - Gal 6:2 •”Bear with one another in love.” - Eph 4:2 Community Application: Instead of asking what I want this church to become, we can ask how I can be a part of what God is building here? Point 3: Faithfulness Over Time is its Own Kind of Miracle We can live according to our value schemes, independent of His love and His covenant, but we’ll pay the price. Or, we can elect to be faithful to Him and discover His faithfulness. —John Huffman, Mastering the Old Testament This is why the New Testament so often describes the Christian life in communal terms: - “Encourage one another daily” (Hebrews 3:13) - “Consider how to stir up one another” (Hebrews 10:24–25) - “Let us run with endurance the race set before us” (Hebrews 12:1–2) For our community, what does that look like? - It keeps showing up - It keeps carrying one another - It keeps remembering God’s faithfulness.
