    Jeremiah 29:11 Is Not the Promise You Think It Is

    Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you…” But what if one of Christianity’s most encouraging verses has also become one of its most misunderstood? In this episode of Victory U: Biblical Misconceptions, we put Jeremiah 29:11 back into its historical, covenantal, and theological context. This promise wasn’t originally given to someone waiting on a promotion, relationship, financial breakthrough, or dream to come true. It was given to Judean exiles living in Babylon, and God told them they would be there for 70 years. That changes the conversation. We’ll unpack the false prophecy surrounding Jeremiah’s message, what the Hebrew concept of shalom actually means, why God’s plan shouldn’t be confused with our personal ambitions, and how Jeremiah’s promise fits into the larger biblical story of exile, restoration, the New Covenant, and ultimately Jesus Christ. We’ll also bring it through the Convergence Point Framework—Meaning, Purpose, and Identity—to explore how Jeremiah speaks to psychology, theology, and culture. Jeremiah 29:11 isn’t promising that everything will happen according to your plan. It reveals that even in exile, God has not abandoned His redemptive purposes.     “For many are called, but few are chosen.” — Matthew 22:14 It’s one of Jesus’ most quoted statements, but is it saying what we’ve often been told it means? In this episode of The Victory U Podcast: Biblical Misconceptions, Dr. David Eadie puts Matthew 22:14 back where it belongs: inside Jesus’ Parable of the Wedding Feast. We unpack the Greek words klētos (κλητός), meaning called or invited, and eklektos (ἐκλεκτός), meaning chosen or elect, and explore what Jesus is actually teaching about the kingdom of God, grace, election, repentance, discipleship, and transformation. The issue isn’t simply whether you received an invitation. The deeper question is: How are you responding to the King who invited you? 🔥 The gospel is radically gracious in its invitation and radically transformative in its expectation. We’ll also confront two opposite errors: religious entitlement and cheap grace. You don’t transform yourself to earn God’s invitation, but genuine grace was never meant to leave you unchanged.
