Most people stay trapped in corporate because it feels safer, not because it fits. If you’ve ever felt pulled toward something more but worried about losing stability, this conversation is for you. You’ll discover: How to tell whether your restlessness is a push away from burnout or a pull toward purposeThe de-risking framework Camilla used to quit with confidence, including runway, incorporating a company, and securing clients before launchWhy she spent a year building Corazon on weekends before going full-timeHow market research reshaped her offer by 40% after launchWhy she believes storytelling is a competitive advantage in the age of AI Camilla also breaks down the difference between building a business you love and building a business the market actually wants. She shares why startups come to her for brand, positioning, executive communication, keynote preparation, and founder storytelling—and why human connection is becoming more valuable as AI-generated content floods every platform. This episode goes deeper than career advice. It is about freedom, autonomy, conviction, and learning how to build a life that matches your values instead of someone else’s definition of success. Identity Shifting, Career Clarity, and Building a New Professional Identity

n this solo episode, I'm exploring something I've experienced very personally: identity shifting. For me, this was the shift from a 17-year corporate career in tech into business ownership, coaching and building a portfolio career. I talk about why so many of us can feel stuck by imposter syndrome, the comfort and security of a good salary, and the fear of what other people might think when we decide we want something different. I also share some of the clarity work that helped me change direction and begin figuring out who I wanted to become next. We often talk about career change as though it's simply about deciding what job or business we want next. But there's another part that doesn't get talked about enough: the gap between who you've been professionally and who you're becoming. In this episode, I explore how to navigate that gap, why lived experience matters more than getting everything perfect, and why I believe career transitions are much more powerful when we treat them as an iterative process rather than one huge leap. My own identity shift from 17 years in tech to becoming a coach, retreat host, traveller and business owner. The personal changes that became a catalyst for me, including my mum getting sick, turning 40 and already being on my own coaching and NLP journey. The question so many of us ask when we're thinking about doing something new: "Who am I to do this?"How that question can fuel imposter syndrome before we've even given ourselves the opportunity to begin. The strange experience of still being in corporate but feeling like "Susanna minus 2.0", and reaching a point where I barely recognised myself in meetings anymore. The tension between walking away from a stable six-figure salary and knowing, deep down, that there had to be more to my life than continuing along the same path. The clarity work that helped me understand my values, what excited me, what drained me, the kind of life I wanted to create and the people I wanted to work with. Why I don't believe you can shortcut the identity work. Confidence comes through lived experience, experimenting, testing things and getting feedback. Why I think about building a career in the same way we used to approach agile development in tech: create the MVP, test it, iterate and refine as you go.Why sometimes we need to stop obsessing over the worst-case scenario and give ourselves permission to ask: "But what if it actually works?"Ultimately, this episode is about trusting that inner pull towards something different. You don't need to have your new identity perfectly figured out before you begin. You can start where you are, experiment, learn, evolve and allow yourself to become the next version of you along the way.

Navigating Change: Virginia Tirado's Journey from Law to Leadership

Having spent years in the corporate landscape, most notably at Amazon and Oracle, Susanna's guest, Virginia, realised that her passion lay beyond the confines of corporate structures. "Each decade of your life brings different growth opportunities," she reflects, emphasising the importance of personal growth alongside professional milestones. Her transition from a corporate career to entrepreneurship was not merely a career shift but a quest for autonomy and fulfilment. "I wasn't getting the joy... I felt like I was giving more than I could," Virginia shares. This realisation sparked her decision to start her own talent business, a move she describes as one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences of her life. Lessons Learned Along the Way Through her varied experiences, from being a lawyer to a business operator and now a recruiter, Virginia has gleaned valuable insights. "Everything we do in life prepares us for the next thing," she remarks, highlighting how her legal background has equipped her with problem-solving skills that are crucial in her current role. Virginia's approach to recruitment is rooted in empathy and understanding. She emphasises the importance of not just identifying talent but also recognising potential in adjacent skill sets. "You have to think about talent in an adjacent category," she advises, pointing out the need to broaden the search for the right candidates in a competitive job market. Embracing the Journey Virginia's story is not just about professional success; it's about personal evolution. She encourages others to listen to their instincts and embrace the signs that life presents. "The longer you wait, things are not gonna get easier," she warns, urging individuals to take the plunge into their dreams sooner rather than later. In a world where many seek security over fulfilment, Virginia Tirado's journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of self-awareness and the importance of following one's true calling. As she continues to build her talent business, her story resonates with many who are on similar paths, reminding us that our careers can be as dynamic and fulfilling as we choose to make them.
