    #37 How Burdens Become Blessings

A single journal entry can expose what we’ve been carrying for years, and this one starts with a blunt two-word punch: “I hate.” I’m talking about the stuff that quietly drains us, even when life looks fine from the outside. The pressure of adult responsibilities, the complicated grief of watching your kids grow up, the grind of bills and tasks, the pull of jealousy and lust, the frustration of feeling behind, and yes, the temptation to chase a quick dopamine hit from podcast views and download numbers…not that I would know anything about that. We also get practical about discipline and craft. As a magician and speaker, I share what it takes to stay “stage ready,” why I record and review my own keynote presentations, and how easy it is to misspeak when you’re thinking out loud. Those habits aren’t just about looking polished; they’re about stewardship, humility, and caring enough to get better. Did I mention humility? Then we read straight from my journal and let it be what it is: a brain dump that turns into prayer and praise. The turning point is a question that changes everything: “How can I turn what I hate into what I love and give this all to God?” This takes us to gratitude, surrender, forgiveness, and why reframing burdens as blessings can be a mental reset. If you’re after spiritual growth, clearer thinking, and a fresh start, hit play baby. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs a reset, and if the show helps, leave a review by answering this question – what’s one “burden” you’re ready to hand to God today? #36 Losing Ivy, Part 1: The Crazy Birth Story

A late-night scare can jolt you awake in a way you never forget. One moment we’re preparing for another home birth with a midwife and the familiar water birth tub, and the next we’re in the hospital hearing words like placenta disruption and emergency C-section. If you’ve ever lived through medical uncertainty, pregnancy anxiety, or the raw fear of not being able to control what happens next, this story will feel painfully familiar. I walk through the full timeline of Ivy Eloise Henderson’s birth, including a first late-night ER trip, the strange decision to go home, and the tension of keeping a work commitment while your mind runs to worst-case scenarios. Along the way, I talk about what actually helps when you’re spiraling: prayer, community, and the kind of faith that doesn’t wait for a tidy ending to find peace. I also share how something as simple as answering “How many kids do you have?” becomes part of the grieving process when one of your children is in heaven. Ivy was born at 5:59 AM (a little fact-checking was necessary here haha) healthy and beautiful, and I reflect on the joy of new life while staying sensitive to listeners facing infertility, miscarriage, and other forms of loss. Then I zoom out to the harder truth: we only had eight weeks with her, and grief keeps showing up at would-be milestones. I close with what I'm learning about storytelling, journaling, and Christian hope, including the mysteries of heaven and why I keep trusting Jesus through it all. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs hope, and leave a review with the one line that helps you keep going when life hurts. Support the show Download and listen to The What Else Is Possible? #35 What This Podcast Is Becoming

I want this podcast to feel like real life, not a perfectly packaged speaker talking, so we start where we actually are: coffee, tea, a half-built “cowboy-ish” setup, and a little bit of rambling while we settle in. Behind the jokes is a serious intention, though. I’m building the Possibility Mindset Podcast as a warm, honest space that grows organically over time, where we can start small, start ugly, and still end up somewhere beautiful. You’ll hear a few life updates that matter more than they seem at first. We celebrate my daughter Claire landing her EMT job, and I share why that moment hit me so hard as a dad. I also recap a wedding reception in Kansas City at Swope Park and the reminder it brings: community and gratitude can carry you when life feels heavy. Along the way, I mention my book What Else Is Possible and why storytelling has become a surprising form of healing for me and connection for others. Then we get to the core of what this show is going to be about. I say it clearly: I’m a Christian, and this podcast is going to be rooted in Jesus. That faith shows up as I talk about grief, including a recent funeral for a 20-year-old in our extended church community and how losing my daughter Ivy continues to shape me almost two years later. I also share a practice that’s changing my mornings, Scripture, journaling, and prayer, plus a small moment with a spider web that turned into a bigger reflection on creation and attention. Next time, we begin Ivy’s story from the beginning, starting with her birth. If you want a Christian podcast about resilience, grief, leadership, and hope that doesn’t fake perfection, you’re in the right place. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a review with the biggest takeaway you want to carry into your week. #34 Two Years Later: What Else Is Possible?

Two years can change everything. After a break, I’m bringing back the Possibility Mindset Podcast with real life, real grief, and a deeper kind of hope than I knew how to talk about before. In this episode, I share the update I never got to give: the birth of our daughter Ivy on August 8, 2024, and losing her to SIDS just eight weeks later. I talk about what it looks like to keep moving when your world gets rocked, how our Christian faith carried us through unimaginable loss, and why I still believe something greater is always possible. I’ll also catch you up on some incredible changes in our family and my work—from welcoming our ninth baby (was it another girl? Find out!) to a new book, a new chapter in my speaking career, and even performing at the World Cup in Kansas City. And underneath all of it is one question that continues to take on deeper and deeper meaning for me: What else is possible? If you’re walking through loss, pursuing something bigger, or simply need some hope for whatever comes next, this episode is for you. __________________________________________________________ Support the show Download and listen to The What Else Is Possible?
