Unbreakable: Michelle's Journey of Loss, Healing, and Helping Others

In today’s deeply moving episode, we sit down with Michelle, a Personal Support Worker (PSW) and Death Doula, to hear her powerful story of overcoming unimaginable loss. Michelle tragically lost her son, at age 29, to COVID-19, an experience that would reshape her life and ignite a passion for helping others navigate grief and loss. Through her work as a Death Doula, she now helps families and individuals facing the most difficult moments of their lives, offering guidance, comfort, and a safe space to process their emotions. But Michelle’s story doesn’t stop at the loss of her son. She opens up about the challenging childhood she faced growing up with a mother who struggled with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and an alcoholic father. As the eldest child, Michelle became a protector for her younger sister, enduring trauma and instability that no child should have to face. In 2016, after years of deep reflection and therapy, she began the process of healing her inner child, reclaiming her strength, and finding peace in the chaos of her past. Today, Michelle is a beacon of resilience, using her own experiences to guide others through their grief. Her journey is a testament to the power of healing, vulnerability, and the importance of transforming pain into purpose. Through it all, Michelle has come to understand that compassion, both for herself and others, is a gift she now gives freely. Join us for an emotional and inspiring conversation about loss, healing, and the transformative power of compassion. Michelle’s story is a powerful reminder that no matter how heavy the burden, resilience and hope can shine through. Listen now, wherever all podcasts can be found. A Conversation with Di Riseborough: Authenticity, Healing, and the Power of Forgiveness

In this deeply reflective episode, I had the honor of hosting Di Riseborough, a former therapist of mine, in a poignant role reversal. Di, an incredibly powerful breath therapist, shares her journey from South Africa to Canada, touching on the challenges she faced in adapting to a new culture while staying grounded in her true self. She opens up about the profound experience of confronting the brutal murder of her grandmother, how it shaped her understanding of love and forgiveness, and how she found the strength to forgive the murderer—an act that speaks volumes about the depth of her heart and healing journey. Throughout our conversation, Di talks about authenticity—not just as a concept, but as a way of life. She beautifully reflects on a quote that has stayed with her, challenging all of us to think about how we can truly "walk the walk" of being authentic, not just talk the talk. For Di, authenticity means being true to who you are, even when it risks portraying something or someone else. It's about honoring yourself and staying rooted in your essence, no matter the external pressures. Di’s wisdom and compassion shine through as she speaks about her work today, holding space for those who are on their healing paths. Her ability to offer unwavering support and profound empathy has made her a guiding light for many. I tell her in this episode that she reminds me of Mother Earth—she holds so much space for people, nurturing their growth and supporting them in their healing.
