    Movie Review: Masters of the Universe 2026

    The $170 million sci-fi fantasy blockbuster landed on the big screen with a massive weight of nostalgia riding on its shoulders. While Polygon hailed it as a "nearly perfect sci-fi fantasy epic" for its colorful, sincere, and unapologetically maximalist take on Eternia, critics overall gave it a mixed 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. General audiences were far more receptive, giving it a strong 86% Popcornmeter score. However, the theatrical run was a certified disaster. The film underperformed drastically, pulling in just $114 million worldwide against its massive budget. Thankfully for Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios, the movie has found its true strength in post-theatrical life, instantly surging to the No. 1 spot globally on Amazon Prime Video upon hitting digital streaming.
