The School of Life

The school of life offers a deep dive into a myriad of topics related to religion, faith, spirituality, and current events. What sets this podcast apart from others however, is the amount of research into facts and history that goes into each episode. Coupled with a compassionate approach that is very intentionally relevant and sensitive to current events (locally and globally), the discussion and information presented does its best to stay objective all the while holding space for the diversity of opinion or emotions that exists today. I cannot recommend this show enough.

I am very grateful to listen to the knowledge and discussion topics that Jenna and Amirah present. Their approach is very broad and deep at the same time to really give you something to think about. They are open to share their personal journeys and how it has influenced and shaped their thoughts. This podcast is good food for the mind and soul.

The hosts present personal fears and incomplete arguments as logical certainty. I listened to their episode on agnosticism and found it utterly lacking. They present arguments to address problems with what they call “hard agnosticism” but never address the fact that none of them apply to “soft agnosticism”. They also present personal fears, such as fear of death or fear of life without a purpose outside of God, as logical arguments, instead of what they are: Personal fears and insecurities that don’t universally apply to all people. Lastly, I found it annoying that they spent the entire second half of an episode, supposedly about agnosticism talking about the strength of the Christian worldview. In sum, I wish I had not spent an hour listening to this slanted and poorly thought through blabber. Do yourself a favor and skip.

Currently binging all the episodes available. These gals are brilliant! They are truly masterful guides into the deep end of philosophy, theology, and human experience. Comprehensive and comprehensible, I’m going to be passing this podcast to lots of friends and philosophically minded folks for years to come.
