    AFLW x JOY 94.9 Pride Round Outside Broadcast (Carlton v Bulldogs)

    From 9-18 October across rounds 9 & 10, the AFLW Pride Round returned for its seventh year, celebrating the LGBTQIA+ people who helped build women’s football and continue to shape the game today. The JOY 94.9 team were in the thick of the action partnering with the AFL for a live broadcast before the game at the Carlton v Western Bulldogs game at IKON Park on Saturday 17 October. Jacs from Game On and Fiona Newton from Chicks Talking Footy were joined on air by the incredible people making an important contribution to footy being such a powerful space for connection and belonging. GUESTS Scott Dalby – Head of Inclusion at the AFL (2min:50sec) David Gould – President of Carlton Pride, the official Carlton Football Club LGBTQIA+ supporter group (10min:08sec) Aliesha Newman – Former AFLW player and designer of the Pride Sherrin (20min:58sec) Izzy Honig and Sam Darvell Minus 18 Young Leaders Program Alumni (35min:43sec) Tara Bohanna – Carlton AFLW Player (46min:40sec) Alex – Carlton Pride member and footy fan (55min:13sec) The broadcast closes before the siren sounds with Fiona Newton taking us back in time to the JOY 94.9 Outside Broadcast of the very first AFL Men’s Pride game on Saturday 13 August, Round 21 of the 2016 competition between the Sydney Swans and the St Kilda Saints. The event is a social round-robin day celebrating diversity and inclusion. Sunday 18 October, from 10am to 2:30pm at PJ Lynch Reserve, Altona North with a Come & Try session (free)! All welcome! AFLW Pride Round – We are into the second week of the annual @aflwomens Pride Round. Eating Disorders – New research from @eatingdisordersvictoria has found eating disorder-related emergency department presentations across Victoria have returned to levels last seen at the height of the pandemic. 26-year-old Sam Johansen, who has lived experience of an eating disorder joins the show in the JOY Sport Studio to talk about recovery and help available.
