Ep. 12 - Leading With Grace, Emotional Regulation and Helping Kids Feel Safe

What does it really mean to lead when you’re still learning, growing, and figuring things out yourself? In this episode of Social Teen Talk, host Tamika Taylor welcomes back Kenya Madison for an honest conversation about leadership, education, emotional regulation, humility, and creating safe spaces for children to learn and thrive. As Tamika enters her second year of leadership, she reflects on the evolution of Impact Achievement Learning Center, including a greater focus on younger students and children with autism. Kenya shares insight on staying adaptable, practicing mindfulness, recognizing emotions before reacting, and giving yourself grace as a leader. They also explore the connection between the brain, body, behavior, and learning, and why children may need time to regulate their emotions before they can effectively process information. The conversation highlights the importance of self awareness, advocacy, resilience, and looking at challenges as opportunities to learn rather than reasons to feel defeated. Tamika is also joined by student Aidan, who shares his experience moving from struggles in traditional school environments to feeling safe, supported, and better able to work on emotional self regulation at Impact Achievement Learning Center. His story offers a powerful reminder of what can happen when children feel understood and secure enough to learn. The episode closes with a look at Impact Achievement Learning Center’s campaign to raise $20,000 to support staffing and help serve more students, along with upcoming community events focused on fundraising, mental wellness, and brain health.

Ep. 11 - The Power of Vision Mental Health and Staying True to Your Purpose with Kenya Madison

You know how some conversations just stop you in your tracks? This is one of them. In this episode, Tamika Taylor sits down with her longtime community sister Kenya Chaney Madison, founder of Kaleidoscope Solutions & Co. and a born and raised Delray Beach daughter, for a conversation that goes deep fast. Kenya has spent over 26 years as an educator, school counselor, therapist, and emotional wellness advocate and she brings all of that wisdom right here to the mic. They talk about something every dreamer needs to hear which is that your vision is sacred. Not everybody deserves access to it. Just ask Joseph. They get into why the wrong partnerships can crack your foundation, why comparison will steal your joy before you even get started, and what it really means to lock arms with people who are truly aligned with where God is taking you. But it does not stop there. Tamika opens up about her first year running Impact Achievement Learning Center and how the journey itself reshaped her vision. They get real about what is happening with our kids today including how social media is rewiring their brains, why so many young people cannot find the words to say how they feel, and why life skills and character will take a child further than a report card ever will. This one felt like church, therapy, and a front porch talk all at the same time. Come ready to take notes. Impact Achievement Learning Center is enrolling now for kindergarten through fifth grade through the end of May. Reach out to learn more about a school where love of learning comes first. Ep. 5 - Beyond the Field: The Transformative Power of Football, Mental Health and Life Lessons from NFL

Do you ever wonder about the power of football beyond the field? Join us as we welcome Mike, Marques, and Tyron to share their personal journeys that trace their humble beginnings in football to playing in the NFL. Their stories are more than just about sport—they're about resilience, navigating anger, embracing diversity, and learning invaluable life lessons.  From Mike's growth through the game to Marques' exploration of anger and diversity, we dig deep into the transformative lessons football imparts. But no journey is solitary. As Tyron shares, being raised in a single-parent home underlines the importance of having a support system—whether it's a father figure or a mentor—for young athletes. We also touch upon the challenges and responsibilities that come with parenting student-athletes. While the physical game is significant, the mental game is just as crucial. That brings us to the heart of our discussion—mental health, specifically among Black athletes. Marques takes us through his long-term relationship with therapy that helped him navigate his parents' divorce and his personal anger issues. We contemplate the importance of mental health in sports and how the NFL is stepping up with free mental health benefits for former players. From Mike to Marcus, we all share our views on the evolution of the game and its newfound focus on the well-being of players. Life, like football, teaches us to focus on what's within our control. Tune in to uncover these profound insights and more in our enlightening conversation.
