When Good Work Becomes About You

This episode starts on a pontoon boat with donuts, chocolate milk, a cast net, and Beau being asked to hold fishing equipment in his freshly orthodontically engineered teeth. The goal: catch mullet. The result: mostly bad spread. Naturally, we eventually arrive at servant leadership and Romans 2. In this solo episode of Quite Frankly, Beau talks about cast-net fishing, Milton Quality Bakery donuts, boat-ramp egos, all eight species of bear, Fat Bear Week, Pokémon humiliation, Mexican Train, tennis, broken car-wash parts, Florida football, Brett’s increasingly questionable allegiance to the podcast, declining attendance, discouragement, servant leadership, Romans 2, outward obedience versus inward transformation, and the danger of making good work about ourselves. Because there’s a problem with taking credit when things are going well: When things stop going well, you’ll probably take that personally too. Maybe the numbers aren’t the point. Maybe leadership looks less like protecting our reputation and more like following the example of Jesus — giving ourselves up, washing feet, serving people, standing on truth, and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform the heart. The closer we become to Jesus, the less impressed we become with ourselves and the more impressed we become with the grace of God. Also included: several minutes of bear knowledge that absolutely nobody requested. Swamp Puppies, Statistics, and Trusting God

This episode starts with Beau remembering the time an alligator — also known as a swamp puppy, dinosaur dog, or whatever else Florida has decided to call it — absolutely deleted a goose beside the 13th hole of a golf course. Brett responded by sticking his tee shot within three feet. Naturally, we move from there into mathematics. In this solo episode of Quite Frankly, Beau talks about fantasy football drafts, fiber-maxing with black beans, ergodicity, neuroplasticity, probability, why repeated attempts change us, Galatians 6:9, spiritual fatigue, becoming more like Jesus, eternal inheritance, baptism, Labor Day laboring, tennis, chicken pot pie, King Manasseh, repentance, and whether anyone is truly too far gone for the gospel. The episode eventually lands on a question Beau has been thinking about: What if you don’t need more clarity? What if you need more trust? We often pray for God to show us exactly what He is doing, what comes next, and how everything will work out. But faith may require being okay with not knowing — trusting that God is working even when the path isn’t clear. Keep showing up. Don’t grow weary of doing good. Be stubborn about following the Lord. Also, 459 attempts apparently changes everything. Golf Carts, Cletus, and Conviction

This episode starts with Beau and Brett taking a golf cart out for dessert in The Villages. Simple enough. Then the gate opens. Despite a sign that clearly says “No Carts Past This Point,” the boys enter a two-lane roundabout, find themselves driving alongside actual automobiles, get chased and yelled at by an elderly gentleman eventually named Cletus, escape with cheesecake, get lost for another 30 minutes, and later encounter the aftermath of a golf-cart accident. Naturally, they have some feedback for The Villages’ wayfinding department. In this episode of Quite Frankly, Beau and Brett also discuss giant Publix cigars, Sister Schubert’s rolls, the proper food to order at Johnny Rockets, Scott Erickson classroom lore, Scotty Scheffler, hand-blown glass, pickleball progress, 135-pound bench presses, La Liga gaming, Romans 1, King Asa, conviction versus stubbornness, and what it means to leave a legacy of commitment. The episode also turns toward the powerful story of a man facing serious illness who wants to spend the time he has left faithfully following Jesus, being baptized, joining the local church, and setting an example for his family. Conviction isn’t refusing to change because you prefer your way. Real conviction is rooted in truth — and it changes how you live. Also, when the gate goes up, apparently you hit the gas. Great Clips, German Cockroaches, and Marriage

This episode starts with Beau getting a $9.99 Great Clips haircut from a young elderly gentleman named Gary. Gary has thoughts. He doesn't like people. He doesn't like kids. He has never been married and doesn't plan on changing that. He does, however, deeply love his nieces and nephews, believes children need to experience funnel cakes, owns approximately an animal kingdom, and has extensive opinions about a corporate merger from 1993. Naturally, this becomes an episode about Christian marriage. In this solo episode of Quite Frankly, Beau talks about Great Clips lore, Jan's pumpkins, Gary's philosophy of life, control, purpose apart from Christ, pickleball tournaments nobody knew were tournaments, pizza-based athletic preparation, Life Group fishbowl, another deeply authentic letter from Brett, German cockroach discipleship, marriage as a picture of Christ and the church, biblical submission, sacrificial leadership, restored marriages, King Josiah, and why removing the bad isn't enough if you don't replace it with something better. Somewhere between funnel cakes, pesticides, charades under a blanket, and Timothy Keller, this episode lands on a simple reminder: Don't just remove what's broken. Let Christ restore the heart and fill the space. Also, Gary gives a surprisingly compelling haircut for $9.99.Listen on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/48Dq262W476WbTWzIKaCmaMore Quite Frankly:https://fleaubo.com/quite-frankly-podcastCheck out the chapters for this episode of Quite Frankly:🎧 About Quite FranklyQuite Frankly is a long-form podcast about faith, culture, honesty, and the inner life. The Bugs Were Not the Problem

This episode starts with Beau, two roommates, an underground Gainesville apartment, and a German cockroach population apparently determined to establish its own sovereign nation. The obvious solution was cleaning the counters. Except the counters weren’t the problem. In this solo episode of Quite Frankly, Beau talks about apartment infestations, finding the root cause instead of treating symptoms, people-pleasing, pride, serving Gainesville’s houseless community, learning to ask for help, scrambling eggs at 18, tearing systems down instead of learning from the people who built them, voting, the Unity Party, presidential cabinet applications, conviction, grace, and what it means to come to God as a son rather than trying to earn His approval. Somewhere between German cockroach biology, turkey stew that tasted like dog food, John Hancock criticism, 1% Dubai listeners, and an impromptu campaign speech at the polling precinct, this episode lands on a simple idea: Find the root. Ask God to reveal it, remove it, and repair what it damaged. Also, cabinet applications remain unofficially open.New Quite Frankly episode out now.Listen on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/48Dq262W476WbTWzIKaCmaMore Quite Frankly:https://fleaubo.com/quite-frankly-podcast🎧 About Quite FranklyQuite Frankly is a long-form podcast about faith, culture, honesty, and the inner life.
