REAL RESILIENCE TALK Episode 94 w/Miss Paula from the Pnut Principle: "Finding Joy in a NUTTY WORLD"

In today's world, resilience is more crucial than ever. But what does it truly mean to be resilient? In this episode, we explore insights from a heartfelt conversation with Paula Dyson, a dedicated community advocate and youth development professional. We'll delve into her journey, the essence of resilience, and practical advice on finding joy even in challenging circumstances. What is Resilience? Resilience, as defined by Paula Dyson, is not just about facing challenges; it’s about embracing each day with hope and a willingness to seek joy, even in adversity. For many, including Paula, resilience stems from personal experiences that test our limits and reveal our strengths. Understanding Resilience Through Personal Experience Paula’s journey into resilience became particularly poignant when she faced her own health crisis. Diagnosed with cancer in 2016, she learned firsthand the importance of surrounding oneself with supportive people while navigating the trials of treatment. Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience is often forged in the fires of personal struggle.  Paula's Pnut Principle is “Living your best life means finding the joy in this nutty world.”  The Daily Struggle of Resilience Even those who embody resilience can experience dark days. Paula openly shares her challenges in maintaining her optimism and the struggle to start her own business, despite her passion for helping others. Her vulnerability highlights that resilience isn't a constant state; it’s a daily practice that involves both highs and lows. Actionable Steps to Cultivate Resilience 1. **Reflect on Your Journey:** Take time to think about your experiences and the lessons learned. Understanding your past can help you navigate future challenges. 2. **Surround Yourself with Support:** Build a network of friends and mentors who uplift you during tough times. 3. **Seek Joy Actively:** Make a conscious effort to find small joys each day, whether through nature, hobbies, or connecting with loved ones. 4. **Embrace Vulnerability:** Acknowledge that it’s okay to have difficult days. Sharing your feelings can strengthen your connections with others. Resilience isn't merely about bouncing back; it's about forging ahead with purpose and positivity. Paula Dyson’s insights serve as a beacon for those looking to navigate life's challenges with grace. Remember, each day is an opportunity to find joy, and embracing that journey is what truly defines resilience. Frequently Asked Questions What is resilience?  Resilience is the ability to adapt to challenging situations, maintaining hope and seeking joy despite adversity. How can I develop resilience? You can develop resilience by reflecting on your experiences, surrounding yourself with supportive people, actively seeking joy, and embracing vulnerability. BUILDING RESILIENCE: BRICK BY BRICK:A Conversation with my mentor Coach Kevin O’Hara of HabitsV2 (HABITSV2.COM)

Some conversations are more than podcast episodes. They’re full-circle moments. Years ago, while trying to become a better human being, I stumbled across Kevin O’Hara’s YouTube videos. We had never met. He didn’t know my name. But every time I listened, I walked away believing I could become a better version of myself. I can honestly say I would not be the man I am today without Kevin’s influence. I don’t know where I’d be had I never found his work. Maybe I’d still be drinking. Maybe I’d still be trapped in the cycle of drinking, recovering, and repeating. Maybe I wouldn’t even be here anymore. What I DO know is this: Kevin helped me believe lasting change is possible. Bit by bit. Brick by brick. Moment by moment. Kevin taught me what I call my go-to Principle 101: “KEEP THE ALCOHOL OUT MY MOUTH!” Simple? Absolutely. Easy? Not always. But Kevin taught me that we STOP THE FLOW, DO THE WORK, and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. And that philosophy goes far beyond drinking. It applies to ANY habit, behavior, or pattern that leads us away from becoming the best possible version of ourselves. We interrupt the pattern. We do the work. We make the next good choice. Then we do it again. Because of Kevin, I have been released from the chains of alcohol and the kryptonite it became in my life—the thing holding me back from becoming my best self. Not through perfection. Through choices. Bit by bit. Brick by brick. Moment by moment. Over the years, Kevin has mentored me, challenged me, encouraged me, and reminded me that resilience isn’t about becoming perfect. It’s about continuing to build. Sitting down with Kevin on Real Resilience Talk was a dream come true and one of the most meaningful conversations I’ve had since starting this podcast. If you’ve ever struggled with alcohol, unhealthy habits, self-doubt, shame, anxiety—or simply wondered whether real change is possible—I hope you’ll give this conversation your attention. IN THIS EPISODE We talk about: • Kevin’s journey from alcohol dependence to purpose • Building resilience through daily choices • Escaping the drinking/recovering/repeating cycle • Managing cravings, temptations & triggers • Habits, identity, accountability & lasting change • Loving yourself while continuing to grow • Why perfection is the enemy of progress • Turning guilt and shame into growth—not identity • Authenticity in the age of AI • Community, belonging & helping others • Alcohol, stress, mental health & suicide prevention • Building a life worth living one choice at a time. KEVIN’S HEARTWORK: Kevin O’Hara is an author, speaker, coach, and recovery advocate dedicated to helping people create meaningful, lasting change. His books and resources have been beyond stellar and include: • Stop Drinking Alcohol • How to Stop Drinking Alcohol – Audiobook • Alcohol Freedom • 30 Day Reboot: Rethink Your Drinking: RESET YOUR LIFE • Hang Loose Without The Booze You can learn more about Kevin and follow the HEARTWORK he does at: https://www.habitsv2.com A PERSONAL THANK YOU Kevin—thank you. Thank you for living authentically. Thank you for showing up for people you may never meet. Thank you for proving that change is possible. Most of all, thank you for helping me become the husband, father, veteran, coach, comedian, and human being I continue striving to become. Your work has impacted countless lives. I’m only one of them. STOP THE FLOW.DO THE WORK. KEEP MOVING FORWARD. Bit by bit. Brick by brick. 🧱 If this conversation helps you, please SUBSCRIBE and share it with someone who may need it. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 in the U.S. and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line. Go out there and like Kevin says, "be the best possible version(BPV) " of you today! #RealResilienceTalk #BPVofSelf #HabitsV2 #MentalHealth #SuicidePrevention
