The Village Oak Tree

T Ó Domhnaill

The Village Oak Tree is where the Irish storyteller comes to your digital village to bring you stories from the outside world. Join me every Wednesday as I try my best to find topics that are not plastered all over the main stream news pages everywhere you look. I research news from around the world, that despite not being in all over the front pages, may be important to regular people nonetheless. To wrap things up, I try to add a little imagination to your visit with a short story that might make you think. Sláinte

Samhain or Halloween, A Little Personal History and Plans for the Future

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Fáilte Welcome to The Village Oak Tree I’m your host, Terrance Ó Domhnaill. Thank you for joining me again this week. I struggled a lot this week, to come up with a topic that didn’t involve politics, or wars, and it was hard. I also had some personal things to take care of, which is why I’m a day late. It’s Thursday, October 29th, a couple days away from Samhain, by the Roman calendar. All of the little, and not so little, kids around the western world will be going out in their costumes to celebrate what they call All Hallows Eve, or Halloween, in English. I decided this year, to keep my celebrations a little more low key. I will still set up and light my bon fire in my brazier on the back patio, and offer a prayer to my ancestors, and those friends I was closest to when they were alive. I will also acknowledge the nature spirits in all of the creatures of the wild in my backyard, such as the squirrels and chipmunks, butterflies and others that make up the world around us everyday, that most people take for granted. Because I felt the need to turn away from all of the antics of Trump, and the wars abroad for a bit, I thought I would change the subject this week, and just offer some insights about this holiday, not holiday, coming up this weekend. So, gather round, sit you down somewhere comfortable for a bit and let’s talk about Samhain, by me telling stories for a bit, then I’ll read the next chapter in the series I’ve been bringing to you. The Misadventures of AI Tools. Plus, a bit about Israel’s Illegal Settlers.

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Fáilte Welcome to The Village Oak Tree I’m your host, Terrance Ó Domhnaill. Thank you for joining me again this week. I’m back, after a couple of week layoff. During my online absence, I’ve been very hard at work rebuilding my domain network infrastructure, after having to replace a failed hard drive in my primary server. It all went down hill from there for a couple of weeks, where at one point, I didn’t have any internet access at all for several days. Didn’t that make my family mad. It’s all back up and running again. Everyone in the family is happy, especially my step-daughter and their oldest son. I have been steadily tweaking things as I see errors crop up, but it’s all good for now. Meanwhile, while I was out of action (causing me a lot of lost sleep while working hard to fix everything), the world continued to head towards more chaos. I missed several days worth of news, but I finally got caught up by yesterday, for the most part. I’m not here today to talk about the bad news everywhere. We already know about that. What I do want to talk about, was my recent experiment with the free AI tools now imbedded in all of our browsers. I also received a news article from Kit Klarenberg, who writes in a Substack called Global Delinquents, about how the German government, still feeling sorry for the holocaust in the 20th century, is enabling the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank. So, gather round, sit you down somewhere comfortable for a bit as I tell you of my adventures in IT as a network and systems administrator, and how AI played a large part in my many sleepless nights because they are very faulty.
