    #Van-life may be a great adventure, but it is not multi-generational

    There are a lot of people who do life on the road, exploring our amazing country and living a minimalist lifestyle, enjoying the freedom and adventure that comes with #vanlife. Doing van-life is low maintenance, low-cost, low-needs and low-commitment. But it is also has severe limitations.

    God honours faith wherever he finds it

    God honours faith wherever he finds it. In Romans 10:9-15, Paul describes how faith is at the centre of the salvation message – “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame” (Rom. 10:11). God’s mercy and grace is available to anyone who puts their hope in Christ. That same faith also calls us to a life of sharing this Good News with our own mouths and actions. The question that follows is how will people hear this Good News unless someone is sent and goes in obedience to God’s call? Perhaps you could be the answer to someone’s prayer to God!     The king will say, ‘You did it for me.’

    Still on the topic of Kingdom, this message looks at two passages Matthew 7:15-23 and Matthew 25:31-46. In their own way, both describe the future reality of Jesus Christ, crowned in glory, judging his people. Both passages demonstrate that kingdom actions absent from intimacy with God and carrying his heart is religion and is met with harsh outcomes. The message invites us to consider what it looks like to prioritise relationships with Jesus so that we have more than self to offer a hurting world.  The post The king will say, ‘You did it for me.’ first appeared on Lifeway Church.

    Growing Kingdom Seed – trust God’s process

    The parable of the growing seed (Mark 4:26-29) is another great parable that Jesus told to show us what the Kingdom of God is like.   In these 3 verses, there is a lot of profound truth.   Just before this parable, Jesus says twice:  “Let those who have ears to hear, let them hear.”   He is clarifying with His listeners that we are to have our spiritual ears tuned in to hear what He is saying.  In the parable of the growing seed, Jesus shows us that God’s Kingdom does not operate as we may expect.  His Kingdom has things set in place, and we need to trust the process – trust the King of the Kingdom.   This message is one of hope and one of invitation to trust.   The three points I bring out in this message are:  – Allow the seed, the Word of God, to be planted in you. – Trust the process. – Be the man who sows the seed for others.  The post Growing Kingdom Seed – trust God’s process first appeared on Lifeway Church.

    God sees you; He knows you.

    While recently walking the crowded and busy streets of London, I became acutely aware of the masses, the ocean of humanity, who I was passing by and would never see again. Literally thousands upon thousands of faces, who each represent lives, families, generations with entire existences that I will never know anything about. I explored ancient ruins of castles and palaces that had housed kings and nobles who had long since vanished, but had really lived in this same space. Just in another time, another world it seems. It’s all so much that it doesn’t seem real. Our human consciousness is so limited in our ability to comprehend the lived experience of other people. And yet, in all these places, the words Jesus spoke to Nathanael kept coming back to me: “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” (John 1:48). It was so impacting for Nathanael when Jesus made it clear that he didn’t just see Nathanael, but knew him, that Nathanael’s response was nothing less than “You are the son of God. You are the king of Israel!” How powerful it is when we too come to the realisation that God knows us, that Jesus says to each one of us, “I SEE you”.     The True Bread of God’s Presence

    Bread is a consistent and powerful image through the Bible, a symbol of physical sustenance, divine blessing and community. It serves as the central element of hospitality, and beyond food, it represents the spiritual nourishment and the covenant of deep intimacy between YHWH and his people. The bread of God’s presence, the true ‘bread’ of heaven – communing with Jesus, the ‘bread of life’ (Jn 6:51).  In Ezekiel, as a result of their choices to not value intimacy with YHWH, the people of Judah ended up separated from him, symbolically eating defiled bread that could not sustain them. Likewise, some settle for second hand bread which is an over-reliance on other people’s intimacy with Jesus that we partake of without ever going to Jesus – the source. The invitation in this message is to pursue the presence of YHWH, feast on his bread so that we offer the world something more than religion.     The 3 P’s of God’s Kingdom

    The 3 P’s of God’s Kingdom are: the Principle of the Kingdom, the Practice of the Kingdom, and the Purpose of the Kingdom.  “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit…” Romans 14:17 The Principle of the Kingdom is Righteousness – Righteousness in action.  We are made righteous because of Jesus and His work on the cross.  However, we trust the Holy Spirit to teach us to live a righteous life – having a character and conduct that conforms to the will of God.   The Practice of the Kingdom is Peace – peaceful submission to the King.  God’s Kingdom operates differently from any earthly kingdom and operates with humility and surrender.   The Purpose of the Kingdom is Joy – the joy of intimate fellowship with God and restored relationship.  Jesus tells us in John 15 that as we remain in Him, stay close to Him, His joy will be in us and our joy will be complete.   Communion and relationship with the King produces joy.   The post The 3 P’s of God’s Kingdom first appeared on Lifeway Church.

    Encouraged in Heart and United in Love – Kingdom Community (Colossians 2:2-3)

    Paul tells the Colossian believers that his goal is for the Lord’s people (us) to be “encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:2-3, NIV). What an amazing statement! Here Paul makes a clear connection between grasping all the wisdom and knowledge that is found in Christ alone, and being firmly anchored in loving Christian community. We gain a deeper understanding of the gospel – God’s good news of salvation and life through Jesus Christ – by discovering what it means to be ‘united in love’ as God’s children. There is no substitute and no higher knowledge or wisdom than that which we find in Jesus.
