Ready For the Next Episode - Solo episode 03

Fair warning: this is a solo episode. If the thought of me talking for getting on for 40 minutes with only a loose structure makes you want to jump headfirst into fire, flick back through the other 80+ episodes for one you haven't watched or listened to, or come back on Monday, when I'll have another incredible guest. Since September last year, when I brought this podcast back, I've been healing out loud, somewhat. This podcast has become a real-time document of the aftermath of tragic grief, and this idiot's effort to make sense of - well, everything - while wanting desperately to spread positivity and the idea of possibility. This episode is a quieter mediation on just that. No milestone to speak of, no guest, just an honest update on where I am, what Project Possible is becoming, and what it feels like to start again without starting from scratch. In this episode, I talk about rebuilding, how hope can feel uncomfortable, the idea of “New Game+”, and why I’m starting to look up again after - amidst? - the hardest period of my life. I also talk about what the podcast has given me, the opportunities beginning to appear, and why Project Possible feels like the thing everything else might grow from. I think I'm ready for the next episode. Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/richleighpod ===== Interviews that might just change your life. And if not…? My Music Teacher Said: "Black People Like You Don't Go To Uni" - Jazz LEGEND Courtney Pine CBE

Courtney Pine CBE is one of the most influential figures in jazz. A pioneering saxophonist, composer and broadcaster, he's spent four decades redefining the genre, sharing stages and studios with everyone from Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and Gang Starr's Guru to Kate Bush, Mick Jagger and Bryan Ferry. But you don't have to be a jazz fan to enjoy this conversation. We talk about why his own music teacher told him that "black people like you don't go to university", the surprising origins of the saxophone and jazz, hip hop, AI, creativity, improvisation, and why, after 40 years in music, Courtney still believes he has so much left to learn. A huge thank you to Cheltenham Festivals for helping make this conversation happen. Mindset Coach: Has Self-Improvement Gone Too Far? Is it making us LESS happy?

Lily Silverton is a mindset coach, speaker and author of Prioritise This. We discuss self-improvement, therapy culture, ambition, loneliness, social media, productivity, work-life balance and why so many people feel overwhelmed despite having more information than ever before. We also explore whether people can become trapped in cycles of self-development and self-analysis, the pressure to become the "best version of yourself", and why success, achievement and optimisation don't always lead to fulfilment. A fascinating conversation about modern life, what really matters, and how to prioritise the things that make life worth living. The Cutoff Culture Epidemic Nobody Wants to Talk About: Tania Khazaal

Around 1 in 4 people are estranged from a family member. Tania Khazaal believes we're living through a family estrangement epidemic - and a silent epidemic at that. One fuelled by social media, modern culture, and our growing inability to have difficult conversations. After becoming estranged from her own mother, Tania eventually rebuilt that relationship and now helps others do the same. We discuss family estrangement, forgiveness, accountability, healing, why she challenged Oprah publicly, and what becomes possible when people stop asking who's right and start asking how to move forward. A fascinating conversation about one of the biggest issues nobody seems to be talking about. Subscribe wherever you watch or listen - it makes a huge difference to me and the success of the show. Why Being a Nerd is a Superpower - DJ Yoda

Duncan Beiny - better known as DJ Yoda - has spent more than 30 years building a career that makes almost no sense on paper. A hip-hop DJ obsessed with breakfast cereal boxes. A turntablist who creates audiovisual shows from films, cartoons and pop culture. A self-confessed nerd who turned curiosity into a career. In this conversation, we talk about meeting Gang Starr's Guru at 14 years old, learning to DJ before the internet existed, why the best artists obsess over details, and how spending years doing things "wrong" can sometimes be the fastest route to finding your own style. We also discuss creativity, hip-hop's golden era, video games, AI, Biz Markie, Tarantino, collecting weird things, and why the people who stand out most are often the ones willing to stay a little weird. This is a conversation about originality, curiosity, and what happens when you stop worrying about fitting in and start following what genuinely interests you. The Friendship That Won Race Across The World - Jo & Kush

Jo Diop and Kush Burman are the winners of the latest series of hit BBC series Race Across the World. Here they are in their FIRST podcast interview since winning. At just 19 years old, the childhood best friends from Liverpool travelled more than 12,000 kilometres across Europe and Asia, racing from Sicily to Mongolia without smartphones, flights or modern comforts, eventually crossing the finish line first and winning the £20,000 prize. But what made Jo and Kush stand out wasn't just the race. Viewers connected deeply with their friendship, humour, honesty and the way they supported each other throughout the journey. In this conversation, we discuss the reality of spending 51 days together, what the race taught them about friendship, anxiety, masculinity, travel, social media, human nature, and how life has changed since becoming two of the best-loved contestants the show has ever seen.
