Feeling Unappreciated as a Man? Why Nobody Checks On You

Send us Fan Mail Feeling unappreciated as a man — when nobody checks on you, and you're still the one who shows up. Feeling Unappreciated as a Man? Why Nobody Checks On You You're the brother everyone calls when something breaks — first in, last out — and somehow nobody checks on you. This episode is for the man on a silent strike: working for the wrong boss, pouring for tired people, wondering who shows up for him. Culture says stop pouring. The old school says stuff it down. Neither is the gospel. From Luke 17 (the nine who never came back) to Colossians 3 (Christ signs the checks) to the sound man in the booth, Malden names the quiet strike and the Father who sees every cue you hit. You'll walk away with: Language for the ache of being useful but unseen — without becoming a doormat or a quiet quitter. A boss change: fire the crowd, report to the booth — work as unto Christ, not for applause that ran out. Gospel clarity: Jesus wasn't only an example; He was your substitute. He took it. He paid for it. Plus tonight's assignment and the Tuesday Huddle. What the Word says Luke 17:11–19 — ten lepers; where are the other nine? Genesis 29–31 — Jacob and Laban: twenty years unpaid Colossians 3:23–24 — you serve the Lord Christ Isaiah 6:1–8 — holy, holy, holy 1 Peter 2:21–25 — the One who never struck back Hebrews 12:1–3 — consider Him Do this tonight: Thank God out loud for three unseen things He saw you carry this week. Can a Christian Join a Black Fraternity or Sorority? Count the Cost Before You Cross.

Send us Fan Mail You'd never sign a car lease without reading it. So why would a grown man kneel and promise lifelong loyalty to words he's never seen? Maybe you've been in for twenty years. Maybe you're looking at a grad chapter for the network. Or maybe your daughter just told you she's going through intake in the spring, and you smiled on the phone. Malden Mitchell honors the real history these organizations built when America wouldn't give us a seat. Then he answers the question a lot of us have never asked out loud: can a Christian join the Divine Nine? You'll walk away with: 1. A two-question test you can use on any oath, in any organization: Can I read every word before I promise it? Does anything in it sit in Jesus' seat? 2. Straight answers to the pushback you'll hear at the shop: "it's just community service," "my pastor is in it," "this is our culture," "it's for the network," and "hazing is illegal now." 3. A clear next step whether you're thinking about joining, already in, or the parent of a child about to cross, including exactly what to say to your brothers or sisters. What the Word says (NLT) Proverbs 20:25 · Matthew 5:33–37 · 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 · Isaiah 53:5 · Matthew 10:37 · Matthew 6:24 · Exodus 20:3 · Daniel 1:8 · Daniel 3:17–18 · Hebrews 10:24–25 · Acts 4:19–20 · Galatians 3:26–28 · 1 Peter 2:9 · Matthew 6:33 · Leviticus 5:4–5 · Joel 2:25 · Mark 8:34–36 Do this before the week is out: If you're considering it, ask to read the full oath and the ritual first. If they say no, there's your answer. If you're already in, take inventory: what did you promise, and to who? Still Waiting on Dad to Say "I'm Proud of You"? The 3 Words Every Man Needs to Hear

Send us Fan Mail 🤝 Join The Huddle: https://www.discipleshipdecoded.org/huddle.html (Tuesday nights, 8:00 to 9:30 PM ET, on Google Meet) You texted him a picture of the promotion you bled for. He sent back a yellow thumbs-up. And you're still waiting on the words. This one is for the grown man with a mortgage and gray in his beard who still reads his father's texts like lab results. Maybe your dad worked doubles, came to the games, and stood by the fence with his arms folded saying, "You should have had that one." Maybe he was never there at all. Maybe the words got buried with him. Either way, Malden Mitchell sits down with you like a brother in the same struggle and names what that silence has been doing to us: the auditioning, the frames on the wall, the boss we're killing ourselves for, the way we can't take a compliment but replay one criticism for three days, and the moment we hear our father's tone come out of our own mouth at our son. You'll walk away with three things: "I see you": You'll finally be able to name what the silence has been doing to you, so it stops driving your life from the back seat. "I'm proud of you": You'll hear the words from the only Father whose verdict settles it, and when He said them: before Jesus preached one sermon or did one miracle. "You're mine, son": A plan for the man himself. Grieve the words you never got, honor him without needing his verdict, and say the words to your own kids tonight so this stops with us. What the Word says (NLT) Psalm 27:10: "Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close." Malachi 4:6: "His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers." Matthew 3:16–17: "And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.'" Luke 3:23: "Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry." Matthew 4:1, 3: "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread." Matthew 27:46: "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?" 2 Corinthians 5:21: "For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ." Ephesians 1:5–6: "God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure." John 17:23: "...and that you love them as much as you love me." Romans 8:15–16 and Galatians 4:6–7: You are not a fearful slave. You are God's own child, and His heir. Luke 15:11–32: The father who runs, and the older brother still slaving for a goat he already owned. 1 John 3:1: "See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!" Ecclesiastes 3:4, Exodus 20:12, Proverbs 18:21, Colossians 3:21 Romans 5:8, John 1:12, Romans 10:9: How a man becomes a son. Do this before the game comes on: Pause and finish this sentence out loud: "The thing I wish my father would have said to me is..." Then bring that sentence to The Huddle. Playing Church Won't Save You: Are You Really Following Christ? (Matthew 7:21–23)

Send us Fan Mail You can have perfect church attendance and still hear Jesus say, "I never knew you." In this episode of Discipleship Decoded, Malden Mitchell talks to you like a brother across the barbershop chair about something most of us won't admit: a lot of men are dressed up and singing on Sunday, then living like they never heard of Jesus on Monday. Same attitude, same priorities, same everything. That ain't following Christ. That's playing church. The problem We know the church words, like "blessed and highly favored" and "God is good all the time," but our lives don't match our mouths. We think showing up, dropping something in the plate, and checking the religious boxes means we're good with God. Malden was that guy: perfect attendance, knew all the language, and was living like the world Monday through Saturday. Playing church changes your schedule. Following Jesus changes your soul. If your faith has never cost you anything, it might not be real faith. What the Word says (NLT) Matthew 7:21–23: "Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, 'Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.' But I will reply, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's laws.'"2 Corinthians 5:17: "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"Luke 14:26: "If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple."Luke 9:23: "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me."Galatians 5:22–23: "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"The gospel answer Jesus doesn't know performers. He knows followers. He didn't come to add a little religion to your old life. He came to give you a brand-new one. In Christ the old you dies and a new man is born, with new priorities, new desires, and a new identity. It's never too late to get real with Jesus. God would rather have your broken honesty than your perfect pretending. Everything you lose for Christ is nothing compared to what you gain in Christ: purpose worth dying for, joy circumstances can't steal, peace problems can't destroy, and a life death can't end. Five steps from performance to transformation Get brutally honest about where you really are. You can't fix what you won't face.Repent of religious performance. Don't just feel sorry. Turn around.Surrender everything: your career, relationships, money, time, dreams, and plans. Stop negotiating with God.Live like a disciple. Change your habits, what you watch, what you talk about, and what comes first.Get around real disciples. Comfort Is Killing Your Calling: What Following Jesus Really Costs (Luke 9:23)

Send us Fan Mail Somebody sold you a Jesus who makes life easier. That was a lie. Jesus didn't die to upgrade your lifestyle. He died to end your old life so His life could begin in you. In this episode of Discipleship Decoded, Malden Mitchell talks to you straight, man to man, about the cross most of us have been wearing like a good-luck charm instead of carrying it. The problem A lot of us are sitting in church thinking we're good while we're really living for our own comfort, plans, and reputation, with a little Jesus sprinkled on the side. We treat God like a cosmic butler: "Bless this. Fix that. Make my life work." We never pray, "Kill what needs to die in me." Then we wonder why we feel stuck. The comfort you're clinging to and the reputation you're guarding are the very things keeping you from the life God has for you. On the outside you look like a grown man. On the inside you might still be a spiritual little boy. What the Word says (NLT) Luke 9:23–24: "Then he said to the crowd, 'If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.'"Galatians 2:20: "My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."Romans 6:4: "For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives."The gospel answer Jesus was crucified so you could be crucified with Him. He was buried so your old life could be buried with Him. He was raised so you can walk in a brand-new life. But you can't have the resurrection without the crucifixion, the power without the death, or the glory without the grave. You're not waiting on God. He's waiting on you. And He loves you more than you could ever know. What to do this week Write down what you're protecting. Name it and face it.Pick one area where you've chosen comfort over obedience, and surrender it today, not next week.Change the question you ask. Instead of "God, why is this so hard?" ask "God, what are You trying to kill in me?"Read Luke 9:23 every morning for 30 days, and ask, "What cross am I supposed to carry today?"Stop suffering in silence. You're Not a Christian Just Because You're Nice

Send us Fan Mail You're Not a Christian Just Because You're Nice: The Difference Between Good Behavior and Real Transformation You're a good guy. You don't cheat (much). You show up for your family. You help people out. You go to church on Christmas and Easter. You don't hurt anybody. You're nice. So you think you're Christian. You're not. Being nice isn't Christianity. Being good isn't Christianity. Following the rules isn't Christianity. That's just... being a decent person. A lot of non-Christians are nicer than a lot of Christians. Real Christianity is surrender. It's not self-improvement. It's not trying to be a better version of yourself. It's not joining a club of good people. It's not being nice enough to earn heaven. It's radical transformation. It's dying to yourself. It's giving everything up. It's letting Jesus completely rewire who you are, what you want, and how you see everything. Nice men can still worship money. Nice men can still destroy their marriages. Nice men can still lie. Nice men can still live for themselves. They just do it quietly. But a Christian? A real Christian is a man who's been remade. Who's not trying to be good anymore—he's been made good. Who's not just behaving—he's been transformed. Whose entire identity has shifted from himself to Jesus. Most churches don't preach this. So you got a lot of nice guys who think they're Christians. And a lot of actually transformed men who don't fit the nice guy image but are living the real gospel. This podcast separates the two. What real Christianity actually costs. What it actually demands. And why being nice is the exact opposite of what Jesus asks. Real Talk Before You Bounce Appreciate you pulling up a chair in the barbershop, brother. You Keep Calling Yourself Broken — God Calls You Reborn: Why Your Identity Matters More Than Your History

Send us Fan Mail You Keep Calling Yourself Broken — God Calls You Reborn: Why Your Identity Matters More Than Your History You're broken. That's what you call yourself. That's the story you tell. The mistakes you made. The things you did. The man you were. You wear it like a tattoo. Use it as an excuse. Live like it's permanent. "I'm just a broken guy trying to do better." And God's looking at you like... nah. That's not who you are. When you got saved, something didn't just change—everything changed. You didn't get repaired. You got reborn. New creation. Old things passed away. All things became new. That's not poetic language. That's the actual truth about who you are now. But you keep calling yourself broken. And every time you do, you're rejecting your actual identity in Christ. You're living like your past is your present. Like what you were is still who you are. Like the gospel only forgave you—it didn't transform you. So you stay stuck. You make decisions like a broken man. You relate to people like a broken man. You see your future like a broken man. All because you won't accept what God already declared: you're reborn. This podcast is about flipping the script. About understanding your actual identity in Christ. About what it means to be new. About how living as reborn instead of broken changes everything—your choices, your relationships, your future, your power. You're not broken anymore. Accept it. Live it. Become it.
