Episode #12 - Finding God’s unique purpose for their lives and how to live the life He has created for us with Dr. Kristin Keller

On this episode, my special guest, Kristin Keller will be sharing with us about a new program at our church to help us find new life in Jesus and get involved! In the last episode, we discussed how important it is to surround yourself with likeminded people especially when we’re trying to deepen our relationship with Jesus. We all need each other for encouragement and support. Human beings also want to just belong. As followers of Jesus, it’s crucial to have this support system and feeling of belonging especially with people who have like-minded faith! This episode, my special guest and I will be sharing with you about a new 3 step program at our church called “Finding New Life” that is designed to help people find God’s unique purpose for their lives and how to live the life He has created for us! This program will include 1. Getting people connected to the church and 2. Use their God given gifts to serve others! The essential oil I’d like to share with you today is Sandalwood. Sandalwood is steam distilled from the wood of an evergreen tree native to Asia. The tree grows to a height of about 30 ft and has small purple flowers and small fruits containing seeds. There are many species of sandalwood. The oil has a very earthy, woody scent. It’s a “base” oil creating a very calming and relaxing environment when diffused. It can also enhance a deep sleep when diffused by stimulating the release of natural melatonin. This is another oil that’s in a lot of my skincare products as it helps maintain healthy, youthful and toned skin. It’s very supportive for overall health and well-being. Sandalwood is considered to be very sacred. It helps increase focus and concentration and is a very handy oil to inhale or diffuse during prayer. Sandalwood can teach us the importance of spiritual sacrifice and invites us to place all material attachments on the altar and give them over to God and invite Him more into our lives. I chose this oil to go along with this episode as we talk about the new program to help us step into the calling that God has for us!  I talked about sandalwood and the way it can be a reminder for us to connect to God  and something else very interesting about sandalwood is the tree in Hebrew can be translated to algum or almug wood. Many scholars believe this wood couldn’t been used as support beams or pillars for the house of the Lord as well as for the lyres and harps for the singers as we read it mentioned in 1 Kings 10:11. So a few things I took away from that is 1. How fitting for us as the body of Christ to be support beams or pillars for the church. This program is a wonderful way that we can use the gifts God gave us to grow the church and to be a support for one another. In the “step 2” booklet it actually talks about how all of us were created by God to make a difference in the life of another person. That’s what building the church is about inside the walls and also, outside of it’s walls! Something else I gleaned from this knowledge is that the Solomon used is a very fragrant wood. That temple probably smelled so good and maybe even produced a calming/relaxing environment when people came. Now it doesn’t say that in the Bible but what we can gather and take away is that we are to be the aroma of Jesus (2nd Corinthians 2:15). Meaning when people come into our church or into our very lives, we are to represent Jesus so much that it just comes off of us like a sweet aroma! Kristin also shares a beautiful reflection with us about Sandalwood and the burial of Jesus. So, grab a cup of coffee, drop your fave oils in your diffuser and let's grow in grace together! 2. Episode #11 - Sobriety journey with Jasmine Spangler

Episode #11 - Sobriety journey with Jasmine Spangler

In this episode my friend Jasmine and I open up and share our stories with sobriety and how finding Jesus has been so much more refreshing than any substance in this world! In 2024, what is keeping you from getting closer with Jesus? Maybe it's alcohol, maybe it's food consumption, maybe it's video games, maybe it's spending money- are these things keeping you in bondage? Are you enslaved to them? In the book of Exodus, Moses has led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt on their way to the Promised Land but they have to wander in the wilderness in order to get there. They quickly start grumbling to Moses that they're so hungry, they'd rather be back in Egypt because there at least they had food to eat. God hears His people and sends down manna and quail to eat. The manna was compared to coriander seed. The essential oil I chose for today’s episode is Coriander. Coriander is from the seed of the cilantro plant. The main chemical constituents of Coriander are linalool, a-pinene, y-terpinene and camphor. Y-terpinene is cleansing, linalool and camphor are soothing and a-pinene is relaxing. The benefits of using coriander oil includes digestive support and healthy immune system function. Because it’s gentle, and soothing, it can be used internally and also externally to the skin applied topically as it can help reduce the appearance of blemishes and also great for those who have oily skin.  It also can add flavor to a variety of dishes as a spice! This leads me to the 2 x that this oil is mentioned in the Bible: Exodus 16:31 and Numbers 11:7. Specifically I want to share with you the scriptures in Exodus: In Exodus 16, it’s been about 2 + months since Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and they’ve come into the wilderness. They begin to complain against Moses and Aaron stating that they were so hungry that they’d rather be back in Egypt where they were at least full of bread and sat by pots of meat. So God told Moses that He will “rain down bread” from heave for them. We read on to see that God provided quail for meat and also a “small round substance” on the ground. The children of Israel asked “what is it” because they didn’t know what it was. Moses told this that is the bread which the Lord has given them to eat. This brings us to Exodus 16:31 where the house of Israel called that stuff on the ground “manna” meaning “What is it?” because there really wasn’t any other word to describe it. It says that it was like white coriander seed, and the taste was like wafers made with honey. Something Jesus showed me about this story is how we are all slaves to something. We all worship something. We all depend on something. For me, I was a slave to alcohol. I made it my “master.” Though it ruled me in many situations, it was comfortable and what I knew. Whatever bondage you may be in, God can free you from it. And sure, the journey out of that bondage may look scary, daunting and definitely unknown. But what I and my guest will tell you today is that whatever comfortable place you may be in doesn’t compare to the place that God will bring you through and to.
