Dean Saunders is the latest guest to join the Aldo Meets podcast for episode 22. We dive deep into Dean's playing career with the reds, winning trophies and so much more you don't want to miss out on. Dean Saunders arrived at Anfield in the summer of 1991, joining Liverpool from Derby County for a British record fee of £2.9 million. His move reflected the high regard in which he was held as one of the most exciting and hard-working strikers in British football. Saunders made an instant impact in Europe, famously scoring four goals on his debut in a UEFA Cup tie against Kuusysi Lahti. He went on to finish as Liverpool’s leading scorer in that competition, helping the Reds progress to the quarter-finals. His pace, tireless running, and willingness to press defenders quickly made him a popular figure with supporters, as he brought great energy and commitment to Graeme Souness’s forward line alongside the legendary Ian Rush. In domestic football, Saunders contributed important goals and played his part in a transitional period for Liverpool, as the club blended experienced names with new arrivals. Although his stay lasted just one season, he still managed an impressive 25 goals in 61 appearances across all competitions – a strike rate that underlined his quality and professionalism. Aldo Meets Podcast Ep #18 | David James

David James is the latest special guest to join John Aldridge, James Pearce and Peter Schriewersmann at Hotel Anfield and what a cracker of an episode we have lined up for you. David James had a notable career at Liverpool FC as the club's first-choice goalkeeper during much of the 1990s, known for his athleticism, shot-stopping ability, and occasional high-profile errors. He joined Liverpool from Watford in July 1992 for £1 million, a significant fee for a goalkeeper at the time. James made his debut in the 1992–93 season, during the inaugural Premier League campaign. Over the next seven years, he was a regular presence in goal, making 277 appearances for the club in all competitions. James was part of a Liverpool side that had talented players but often underachieved in terms of major silverware. Despite this, he helped the team to: 1995 League Cup victory, keeping a clean sheet in the final against Bolton Wanderers. A runner-up finish in the Premier League in the 1995–96 season. His time at Liverpool coincided with the "Spice Boys" era — a period remembered as much for off-pitch personalities as on-pitch results. While James showed flashes of brilliance with his reflex saves and aerial presence, he was also criticized for lapses in concentration, particularly in the mid-90s. In 1999, with the arrival of new manager Gérard Houllier and increased competition for the goalkeeper spot, James left Liverpool to join Aston Villa. David James was a talented and influential figure for the club during a transitional period in its history. #liverpoolfc #lfc #anfield #ynwa Follow our socials: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aldomeets/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/AldoMeets Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aldomeets Spotify: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/aldomeets Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/aldo-meets-podcast/id1704005684
