Hearing From God: The Key To Relationship

What if hearing from God isn't as mysterious as you've been led to believe? In this special episode, I'm inviting you inside one of our Joy Rooted Life coaching calls as we explore what it really looks like to recognize God's voice. You'll hear practical teaching, biblical encouragement, and a live Joy Connection ministry session that beautifully demonstrates how God speaks through Scripture, memories, His quiet voice, and His presence. One important note: because this was originally recorded inside a paid coaching community, I removed portions that were personal to protect my clients' privacy. What remains is an authentic glimpse into the kind of transformation that happens inside the program. Why hearing from God usually looks much simpler than we expect. How surrender and brokenness prepare our hearts to recognize His voice. The difference between dramatic spiritual experiences and the everyday ways God speaks. Why Scripture is one of God's primary ways of revealing Himself personally. How relationship skills and inner healing actually work together rather than competing with one another. What a Joy Connection ministry session looks like in real life. Why intimacy with Jesus is the deepest source of security for every relationship. How repentance becomes an invitation to freedom instead of shame. Why healing happens in layers as we continue walking with Christ. One of the greatest obstacles to hearing from God isn't that He isn't speaking—it's that we're often too busy, too fearful, or too attached to our own perspective to recognize His voice. Throughout this episode, we explore how God faithfully speaks through His Word, through gentle impressions, through memories He brings to mind, and through the sanctified imagination when our hearts are surrendered to Him. You'll also hear why relationship coaching and inner healing aren't separate paths. As we practice healthy relationship skills, they naturally expose the places where Jesus still wants to bring healing. Then that healing enables us to love even more freely. It's a beautiful cycle of growth that continues throughout our lives. John 10:27 — "My sheep hear My voice." James 1:5–8 — Asking God for wisdom with wholehearted trust. The invitation to repentance as a doorway into God's perspective rather than condemnation. Healthy marriages aren't ultimately built by mastering communication techniques. They're built by becoming women who know the voice of their Shepherd. As our identity becomes rooted in Christ, we stop looking to our husbands for security that only Jesus can provide. From that place of peace, we're finally free to love with wisdom, dignity, and joy. If this conversation stirred something in your heart, I'd love to invite you to explore the Joy Rooted Way with us. Inside the program, we combine practical biblical relationship coaching with deep spiritual formation so you can enjoy your marriage while becoming the woman God created you to be. Stop Making Him Your Idol: A Biblical Look at Codependency

In this re-released episode, Lucy sits down with returning guest Jill Roberts to unpack the topic of codependency — what it looks like in marriage, how it quietly shapes the way we worship, parent, and communicate, and why learning to identify and express our own desires is actually a deeply spiritual practice, not a selfish one. Jill shares candid, specific examples from her own marriage and motherhood, and the two explore how relationship skills, Scripture, and inner healing work together to break codependent patterns rooted in fear of others' opinions. The conversation closes with Jill leading listeners in prayer over anyone in their marriage journey feeling stuck or without hope. In This Episode: What codependency really is, and why the church often talks around it without naming it Philippians 2:3-4 and the difference between biblical selflessness and self-erasure How self-care, desire, and delight are woven into God's design rather than being in conflict with it A real-life example of codependency showing up in worship, communication, and daily marriage moments The skill of saying "I would love..." instead of making requests or complaints Why relinquishing control of the timeline is central to trusting God with our desires How maintaining hope for a spouse differs from staying stuck in self-protection or resentment Practical language for expressing needs and desires without strings attached, including "I would love more time to think about that" and "surprise me" A closing prayer for wives Connect with Lucy: Have questions or want expert eyes on your marriage? What It Really Means to Be a Help Meet

In a fun, ask me anything format, Lucy sits down with her coaching client Jessica to unpack the questions that came up during their sessions together — starting with the one that changes everything: why respect became the missing piece in Jessica's marriage. What we cover Why respect was the game-changer. Lucy shares how she did "everything right" in her first marriage and still saw it end in divorce — then watched the same patterns show up again. A perspective shift helped her identify respect as the piece she'd been missing, rooted in Ephesians 5.The apology that restores intimacy fast. Lucy and Jessica break down what it sounds like to apologize specifically for disrespect (not just "I'm sorry") — and why this apology, though it feels awkward in the moment, rebuilds trust faster than any other. What respect isn't. A lot of Christian wives think doing more — packing his lunch, handling his to-do list — is what makes a husband feel respected. Lucy explains why over-functioning actually reads as mothering, not respect, and why stepping back (like letting her husband handle daycare drop-off on his own) helped him feel trusted and competent instead. The real meaning of "help meet." A look at the Hebrew word behind "help meet" — the same word used 21 times in the Old Testament to describe how God helps Israel — and what it means to champion your husband's best self rather than manage him.Lightening your mental load. Jessica and Lucy talk about the statistics on women carrying the default-parent role, and how practicing these skills actually lightens that load rather than adding to it.Rebuilding self-care after a season changes. When life shifts — a move, a new baby, a loss of resources — old self-care routines may no longer be available. Lucy shares her own experience after her fifth child and a major life transition, and how mourning what's lost, managing her thoughts, and staying open to what God might be building (Jeremiah 29:11) helped her find a new, deeper version of self-care. Memorable moments "The apology... not only clears the air so fast, but literally restores the intimacy so fast — maybe even improving it from where it was before the incident occurred." "Men aren't attracted to their moms." — on why over-functioning for your husband can backfire "The faster we can get on board with what His agenda is for our life, the better." Flip the Complaint: A Gratitude Exercise for Your Marriage

In this episode of the Easy Biblical Marriage Podcast, Lucy dives into the transformative power of gratitude — and why the version most people talk about barely scratches the surface. Drawing on a lesson from her pastor's sermon on choosing gratitude regardless of circumstance, Lucy makes the case that the harder your situation, the more transformational it can be to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving instead of fighting against what is. Lucy shares her own story of believing her husband was constantly on his phone — and how shifting her focus to the times he was fully present, and speaking life over that instead, actually changed what she saw in him. It's a simple but powerful exercise: take your biggest complaint about your husband, and flip it into the thing you want to see increased. No striving required. Just a wife choosing what she focuses on. In This Episode: Why gratitude is a choice available to us regardless of circumstance — and why the harder the situation, the greater the opportunity for transformationA simple exercise to flip your top complaint about your husband into a gratitude, and why this works with what your brain is already doingLucy's own story of moving from fixating on her husband's phone use to noticing — and speaking life over — how present he already wasWhat "help meet" really means (hint: it's not managing him) and how championing your husband changes the way he shows upConnect with Lucy: hello@easybiblicalmarriage.comFacebook: Lucy Martin or Easy Biblical MarriageInstagram

    Neurodivergent Husband? No Problem!

In this episode of the Easy Biblical Marriage Podcast, Lucy tackles a topic she sees constantly in her Facebook group and around the internet: wives writing off their marriage — or their husband — because of a suspicion or diagnosis of neurodivergence. Drawing on a rare combination of perspectives (she's neurodivergent herself, has been married to two neurodivergent men, and is a licensed therapist trained to diagnose neurodivergence), Lucy makes the case that a label like ADHD or autism doesn't have to be an obstacle to a thriving marriage — and can actually become a strength once a wife stops diagnosing and starts focusing on the good. Lucy shares her own story of feeling "dropped" early in marriage, turning to Google for validation, and how that search for evidence of her husband's ADHD only made things worse — until the Six Intimacy Skills gave her a completely different lens. No labels required. Just a woman choosing what she focuses on. In This Episode: Why diagnosing your husband in your mind tends to create a vicious cycle instead of moving your marriage forwardThe shift from feeling dropped and seeking validation online to focusing on "the exception to the problem"How speaking life over a trait — instead of labeling it a deficit — changes the way it shows up in your marriageWhy bluntness, directness, or other traits associated with neurodivergence can become things you love about your husband instead of things you fearConnect with Lucy: hello@easybiblicalmarriage.comFacebook: Lucy Martin or Easy Biblical MarriageInstagram
