    Monsters In The Bible

What do monsters have to do with the Bible? Quite a bit, according to Mark, Pastor Burt, and Pastor Josh. In this Halloween themed episode, the hosts explore the Bible’s supernatural side. Great sea creatures, Leviathan, Behemoth, giants, goat demons, Lilith, and Azazel. Along the way, they unpack how these beings fit into the biblical story, where later folklore adds to the picture, and why a “unicorn” in an old King James translation isn’t quite what you might think. The conversation’s big idea: these strange and fearsome creatures may be powerful, but they’re never presented as God’s equals. So whether you’re curious about biblical oddities or just here for the monster talk, climb aboard the Monster Mash Train! Can Christians Watch Horror Movies?

Are horror movies off limits for Christians, or is it a matter of personal conviction? In this episode, Mark Dickey and Pastors Burt Miller and Josh Dupiche scary movies, and faith. They consider Romans 14, Philippians 4:8, and the difference between depicting evil and endorsing it. The discussion also touches on bad theology in supernatural stories, the influence of the creator’s worldview, and how to tell the difference between something spiritually harmful and something that simply makes you uncomfortable. No “one size fits all” verdict here; just a call to discernment, charity, and care in how we treat fellow believers who see things differently. I'm A Christian Now, Do I Need New Friends?

So you became a Christian… Now what about your friends? On this episode of the Why Do Christians podcast, Mark Dickey and Pastor Burt discuss how following Jesus can shake up your social circle. Burt admits his teenage zeal came off a little pretentious when he was young in his faith. Then the guys dig into how you can be a light to old friends while staying plugged into a church community that keeps you honest. Is there a magic 60/40 rule? Maybe, maybe not. Then it's scenario time! Meet Debbie Downer, the coworker who bonds over complaining. There's Gossiping Gary, who always has the scoop on everyone, and Drunken Drew, who's counting down to Friday happy hour. Drawing on Galatians, Daniel and 1 Corinthians, Burt shares practical, grace-filled ways to handle each one without being preachy or giving in. You're Loving Your Neighbor Wrong

You\'re supposed to love your neighbor… but what if you\'re doing it wrong? Listener Dee asked which kind of \"love\" Jesus meant, so Mark, Pastor Burt and Pastor Josh dig in. The command goes all the way back to Leviticus. Who actually counts as your neighbor? The guys make the case that love starts at home (1 Timothy 5:8), moves to your church family (Galatians 6:10), and then reaches the whole world, Good Samaritan style. Why is it easier to be nice to a waiter than to your own family? Is a packed sports schedule a good reason to skip church? And what does Jesus mean in Matthew 25 by \"the least of these, my brothers\"? Expect a few spicy takes, some HGTV jokes, and an apology to curling fans. Can You LOSE Your Salvation? With Special Guest: Dr. Sam Storms

Can you actually lose your salvation? It's a question that keeps a lot of Christians up at night, whether you're new to the faith or have been walking with Jesus for decades. This week, Mark, Pastor Burt and Pastor Josh sit down with Dr. Sam Storms (just call him Sam) to dig in. Sam argues that a truly born-again believer can't lose their salvation. He says people who walk away may never have had real faith in the first place. We get into the tough stuff: Hebrews 6, the "I never knew you" verses in Matthew 7, the "if-then" verses in Colossians, and even Judas. Sam also shares his "three-legged stool" concept for assurance: Scripture, the fruit of the Spirit and the Spirit's inner witness. Struggling with sin? Sam says that's actually a good sign. Christians still disagree on this one, but it's a conversation worth having. Want to go deeper? Can AI Help Me Study The Bible?

Radio host Mark Dickey has a bone to pick with AI — it once handed him a Bible verse in the wrong translation. Pastor Burt Miller isn\'t so quick to write it off, but he\'s got his own horror story: an AI confidently invented a quote from Lee Strobel\'s The Case for Miracles, then cheerfully agreed it was wrong when called out. In this episode of the Why Do Christians podcast, Mark and Burt dig into what AI is actually good for, and where it falls apart. They talk digital echo chambers, why chatbots fill in gaps with stuff that sounds right, and the AI sermon that “nailed the text” but completely missed the point. Learn why Google is to Bible study, what WebMD is to being an actual doctor. Spoiler: the printing press was supposed to make us dumb too. Go to church, ask hard questions, and don\'t panic. Does God Cause Natural Disasters?

When hurricanes, earthquakes, and wildfires hit, is God behind it—or just watching it happen? In this episode of the Why Do Christians podcast, Mark, Pastor Burt, and Pastor Josh tackle one of the most frequently asked questions of believers and skeptics: Does God cause natural disasters? They walk through biblical examples like the Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, Jonah’s storm, and Jesus’ words in Luke 13, wrestling with God’s judgment, Satan’s activity, and a broken creation. Along the way they unpack what it means for God to allow vs cause suffering, why we can’t claim a specific disaster is punishment for certain people, and how Jesus redirects the question back to our own hearts and need for repentance. If you’ve ever wondered why “good people” get hurt, why “bad people” seem to prosper, or where God is when tragedy hits, this conversation is for you. Do "Bad" People Go To Heaven?

Ever wondered if “being a good person” is really enough to get you into Heaven? In this episode of the Why Do Christians podcast, Mark Dickey and Pastor Burt Miller tackle one of the most uncomfortable questions in Christianity: Are there really a lot of “good” people going to Hell? They break down why the Bible says no one is truly good, why our “good deeds” can’t erase our sin, and what Jesus actually requires in John 6. They unpack the thief on the cross, the parable of the workers in the vineyard, and how grace flips our ideas of fairness upside down. Plus, Pastor Burt explains why following Jesus isn’t about earning points with God, but about a transformed life that flows from love.
