    Small Craft Advisory: Checkerspot Brewing Bird Is The Word

    It’s time for another Small Craft Advisory, and this week we’re heading to Baltimore for a beer that absolutely knocked it out of the park—or should we say, out of Camden Yards? ⚾🍺 We crack open Checkerspot Brewing’s “Bird Is The Word,” a Honey Kölsch inspired by Baltimore’s beloved Orioles and Ravens. Brewed with local honey malt from Bear Branch Malthouse and honey from Brick’s Bees, this one had our attention before we even took the first sip. And with a can design packed with Baltimore Orioles and Camden Yards-inspired details, it might just be one of the best-looking cans we’ve reviewed yet. But thankfully, Bird Is The Word isn’t just a pretty can. The honey aroma immediately jumps out, and that delicious honey character carries through to the palate without becoming overwhelming. The honey hits strong but stays balanced, returns again on the back end, and somehow leaves room in the middle for a perfectly balanced beer—not too light, not too heavy, just right. Russell summed it up perfectly: “Cool, crisp, and crushable.” And nobody disagreed. The biggest news, though? Our leaderboard has a NEW KING OF THE HILL! 👑🍺 After all the beers we’ve put through the Small Craft Advisory test, this one received nothing lower than a 4.6 out of 5 from the guys, giving it the highest overall rating we’ve handed out so far. Todd also gives us the rundown on Checkerspot Brewing itself, pointing out the brewery’s impressive setup and the many kid-friendly amenities that make it a great option for a family outing—even if the kids aren’t there for the beer.     Properly Thicc I EP 75

    The NFL season is officially underway, and the guys have plenty to talk about! We kick things off with the Saints’ hard-fought 31-30 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions. New Orleans battled all the way back after falling behind early, but the game was ultimately defined by a controversial overturned touchdown that has Saints fans questioning the officials and the NFL rulebook. From there, we jump into college football, starting with the thrilling showdown between Ohio State and Texas. The Longhorns pulled off a dramatic 24-23 victory, giving us plenty to debate about both teams and what the result could mean for the rest of the season. Todd and Patrick also weigh in on Mississippi State and Florida and their perfect starts, before we turn our attention to LSU vs. Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin’s emotional return to Oxford. With plenty of history, tension, and storylines surrounding the matchup, the guys expected an epic showdown—and the game certainly delivered. Travis then gives us some insight into a local UFC fighter who is making his way up the MMA ranks and taking the next step into the professional ranks. Outside of sports, Todd recaps his trip to Maryland with his son for Camden’s baseball tournament, while Russell and Patrick share their experience seeing The Midnight live. From the music and production to the overall atmosphere, the guys break down just how much they enjoyed the show.     Small Craft Advisory: Florida Ave Brewing Dead Parrot

    The latest episode of Small Craft Advisory is here, and this time we're cracking open Florida Avenue Brewing’s Dead Parrot, a light lager brewed with sea salt and lime! 🍺🍋‍🟩 This is our second beer from Florida Avenue, and after absolutely loving the first one, expectations were definitely high. So, does Dead Parrot live up to the hype? The crew had plenty to say, with opinions all over the place when it came to the color, aroma, and different flavors coming through. Overall, though, the consensus was pretty positive! Patrick picked up some Modelo vibes, while Todd thought it had more in common with Miller Chill. But where did everyone land on the final scores?     We’re back with another episode of the Wasted Wagons Podcast, and this one takes us all over the map! We kick things off with the FIFA World Cup, sharing our thoughts on the tournament as a whole and discussing Spain emerging victorious. Of course, where there’s FIFA, there’s usually some controversy, so we also dive into the latest scandal surrounding FIFA President Gianni Infantino and his failed plan to sell a portion of the World Cup to private investors. From there, we switch gears to American football and take a look at the latest New Orleans Saints training camp news. There’s some good, there’s some bad, and naturally, we have plenty to say about all of it. Then it’s time for some baseball, as the Dodgers once again made the biggest headlines at the MLB trade deadline, landing two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal from the Twins. That blockbuster move leads us into a much bigger conversation about the reaction from baseball fans to the way the Dodgers operate, whether Major League Baseball needs a salary cap, and the growing possibility of an MLB strike that seems to be looming on the horizon.     Small Craft Advisory: Busch Light Apple

    Trendy? Absolutely. Good? Well...we were just as surprised as you might be. On this edition of Small Craft Advisory, the crew cracks open Busch Light Apple, a beer that came with some pretty low expectations. Instead of the train wreck we were preparing for, we found ourselves saying, "You know what...this isn't bad." No one is planning to stock the garage fridge with party packs anytime soon, but as a one-and-done beer, Busch Light Apple delivered a surprisingly enjoyable experience. The fresh apple aroma is immediately noticeable, and that flavor carries through each sip more than we expected. In fact, it drinks much closer to a crisp cider than a traditional lager, making it an easy option for anyone looking for something a little different. Could this be the most pleasantly surprising beer we've reviewed in a while?     Tonic...Tonic...Help Us God I EP 73

    The guys are back with another episode full of sports, stories, and plenty of laughs at Patrick's expense. We kick things off with Patrick and Dylan reliving their recent kickball showdown, including Patrick's unforgettable (and expensive) moment on the field that everyone else enjoyed far more than he did. From there, the conversation shifts to Father's Day as everyone shares the gifts they received and the celebrations with their families. On the sports side, we break down the USA Men's National Team advancing out of the World Cup group stage and preview their knockout round matchup against Bosnia and Herzegovina. We also give our thoughts on the recent NHL Draft before diving into the Brendan Sorsby saga. With the NFL deciding not to hold a supplemental draft in 2026, Sorsby is now set to sit out the entire season before becoming eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft. What does it mean for his future, and did the league make the right call? As always, the sports talk eventually gives way to more personal stories.
