The High of Love: When Connection Becomes Compulsion

Shannon Torrance, host of Magic Israel, shares her nearly 20-year journey in recovery from sex, love, and fantasy addiction. She opens up about how addiction was not simply about sex or relationships, but about a deeper need for validation, safety, self-worth, and connection. Through her story, Shannon explains how obsessive relationships and fantasy thinking became compulsive ways of escaping loneliness and seeking external validation. Recovery eventually helped her recognize that the real work was learning to love herself, establish boundaries, understand her patterns, and reconnect with her purpose. She discusses finding support through Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA), therapy, sponsorship, accountability, and community. Over time, she learned that sobriety isn't simply about stopping a behavior—it also means becoming emotionally sober, regulated, self-loving, and intentional about how we live. The conversation also explores spirituality, purpose, self-abandonment, and the idea that recovery can be a process of shedding the layers that disconnect us from who we truly are. Shannon shares how reconnecting with spirituality and learning to trust a higher power helped her release the need for control and live with greater peace. Ultimately, Shannon's story is one of healing, self-discovery, spiritual growth, and hope—a reminder that no matter how deeply someone is caught in addiction or compulsive behavior, recovery can lead to a life filled with greater peace, purpose, connection, and self-love.

All You Have to Do Is Ask: Trinity’s Journey Through Addiction, Spirituality & Recovery

Trinity shares how her addiction began unexpectedly in her late thirties while she was living in an abusive marriage. Although alcohol and medication became the substances she struggled with, recovery helped her recognize earlier patterns of codependency, people-pleasing, masking, and seeking validation from others. After repeated attempts at treatment and periods of relapse, Trinity experienced a medical crisis that she describes as a near-death experience. While hospitalized, injured, and feeling completely alone, she surrendered to the Goddess and asked for help. She says that moment lifted the consuming obsession to drink, although occasional cravings still arise. Her early recovery involved major life changes, reading the AA Big Book, prayer, meditation, and eventually attending meetings and working the Twelve Steps. Because traditional recovery spaces sometimes felt overly Christian, Trinity began transforming the Steps into pagan rituals. She describes ritual as “prayer with props” and believes witches can use familiar spiritual practices to deepen their recovery. The conversation explores: How addiction can begin with codependency, masking, and the desire to be chosenWhy surrender is difficult in a culture that celebrates control and independenceUsing prayer, meditation, ritual, and personification to respond to cravingsAdapting the Twelve Steps through witchcraft and pagan spiritualityThe healing power of meetings, community, and relationships with other people in recoveryWhy recovering out loud helps reduce shame and shows others where support is availableThe importance of daily “spiritual hygiene” and conscious contact with a higher powerLearning to experience grief, depression, and difficult emotions without escaping through substancesPassing recovery, not only the risk of addiction, on to the next generation Trinity’s central message is that relapse does not make someone hopeless or unworthy. Recovery remains available, and people can keep trying without shame. Her story ultimately emphasizes surrender, spiritual connection, service, community, and the willingness to ask for help. Listeners can find Trinity through Esoteria LLC on YouTube for Twelve-Step tarot, meditations, rituals, and spiritual recovery content.

The Vision for Witches Recovery: Building a Community That Keeps Us Connected, Grounded, and Sober

In this episode of the Sober Witch Life Podcast, Sunshine Witchski shares an update on the growing Witches Recovery Circles and the larger vision behind the Sober Witch Life movement. What began with just two people has grown into regular recovery meetings with participants joining from different places. Sunshine shares her dream of eventually having recovery meetings available every day—and ultimately creating a space where a witch or magically spiritual person can find recovery support whenever they need it. A major part of making this vision possible is training more facilitators who can lead recovery circles and help expand the community. Sunshine discusses the facilitator training program, the support and resources provided to facilitators, and the need for more people willing to step forward and serve. She also reflects deeply on her own recovery journey, approaching seven years of sobriety, and the importance of continuing to do the inner work rather than assuming that time alone means recovery is complete. For Sunshine, the recovery circles provide accountability, connection, vulnerability, and a safe place to confront things that may otherwise remain hidden. The episode ultimately becomes a reflection on service, community, healing, and personal growth. Sunshine explains that her role is evolving toward training facilitators and helping others bring recovery, healing, and connection to more people. She also shares upcoming opportunities, including facilitator training, Sober Witch Camp, retreats, and sober programming at Convocation. Core message: Recovery doesn't end when you reach a certain number of sober years. It is an ongoing journey of self-awareness, connection, healing, service, and choosing to keep moving forward—together.
