    Aboriginal Sunday - Common Grace - 22nd January 2023

"We lament that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been seeking to be heard since 1788. Australia has consistently failed to listen. We know too that Australia has not yet wrestled with the truth of our shared history, and has failed to establish treaties with its First Peoples. We are committed to deeply listening to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and walking together for justice, healing, and flourishing for all. We recognise Voice as an important step along the way to hearing and responding to the long-standing calls to deeply listen to the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the need to establish treaties, and the importance of national truth-telling. You, working alongside the Common Grace movement, have a crucial role to play in supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and advocating for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament and for justice. To ensure the referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament is successful, we will need to speak to our leaders, quell the doubts in our churches and in our communities, and show people the ways in which every step towards reconciliation is a step towards justice and the enrichment of every Australian. If our country does not come together in supporting a YES vote at the upcoming referendum on Voice, it will set our efforts for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice back decades. In 2023, we will be led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian Leaders in:- Listening deeply to the Indigenous voices of the past and present- Campaigning for a YES vote in the referendum for a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous Voice to Parliament- Advocating to #RaiseTheAge of criminal responsibility in Australia- Grounding everything in Truth-Telling of our shared history and supporting a National Truth-Telling Commission and Treaty-making processesPledge your commitment to join us now in speaking up for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice in 2023 at this crucial time for action." - This text is taken from the Common Grace website https://www.commongrace.org.au/ To continue listening deeply and engaging with the truth of the history of our nation we invite you to watch and/or listen to the video attached or via link in our bio of Gershon, Bianca and Safina from Common Grace as they share about Aboriginal Sunday, on what it means to look to the voices from the past, so that together we can head into the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZN7D9yEbdM&fbclid=IwAR3nG8ZR1VtB1D2-S6ptgsZf_UnJqDSQ0y0LNbmzfqITanrIfT05fzVJgoc  . Making Headway Painfully - Cory Mitchell - 5th February 2023

A guaranteed part of the Christian life – life in communion with Jesus and Jesus’ people – if we are living in pursuit of the one who calls us all to the other side is that you and I will experience pain and suffering in various forms and at various times and through various seasons. . Sometimes we must paddle – we must continue to make headway painfully, with the wind against us – knowing that even if Jesus doesn’t get in the boat He is still present with us in the storm! . [Mark 6: 45-52 ESV] . “Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.  . 47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land.48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. . And about the fourth watch of the night[g] he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. . But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased.” . Play the Long Game - Cory Mitchell - 19th February 2023

“Play the Long Game” by remembering that: 1. Our Flavour – requires time to mature and develop… “Don’t rush the process; Good things take time, great things take a little longer” Savour and enjoy what God is doing in us, now, and do not be in a rush to move onto the next thing prematurely… 2. Our Future – is a generational pursuit… “Be a good ancestor: Plant trees you’ll never see.” We must savour the moment we’re in while thinking, planning and planting generationally. Our invitation is to think about the world we are making for our children and our childrens’ children. 3. Our Fumes – are never wasted… What is lost, or more accurately, what moves from a church plays a significant role in refining and defining what remains in the life of a church.   Not every person, program or partner that started with us, will stay with us; but every stage and every story that has been with us contributes to our flavour and to our future. . Struggle with the Tension? - Naomi Keane - 26th February 2023

Do you struggle with the tension between the "good" things you want to do and the "bad" things you don't want to do but find yourself doing anyway? God's gift of grace through Jesus means that we don't have to try and do "good" things. Instead, the Holy Spirit has been graciously given to us to work with us and in us so that we don't have to try and be "good" to do "good" things. Rather as we seek daily to live with and in the Spirit. The Spirit transforms us into the fullness of who God created us to be. The Spirit makes us more like Jesus. The Spirit makes us "good". "So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin." Romans 7:21‭-‬25 NIV . RESTORE - Ash Rosevear & Cory Mitchell - 12th March 2023

Yesterday we jumped into the second week of our Future Series by catching up with our new Community & Justice Catalyst - Ash Rosevear - who shared so honestly about some of his past church related trauma and how he has experienced the restorative power of a safe and inclusive God (and community) by holding deeply to the hope of Jesus as the Good Shepherd (John 10:10,11) who loves all, serves all and pursues all irregardless of where they might be at in life! . That sounds like good news; thanks for sharing yourself and some of your story so generously with us Ash. . “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” .
