Why does a good, loving, and all-powerful God allow evil and suffering? In this episode of 12 AM Latte, John explores one of the biggest questions surrounding God, Christianity, faith, and suffering: If God can stop evil, why doesn't He? We talk about free will, Adam and Eve, the Fall of Man, sin, human responsibility, suffering, natural disasters, and Jesus Christ, and how these ideas fit together from a Christian perspective. If God gave us the freedom to choose, that freedom also gives us the ability to make terrible choices. The same free will that allows us to love, forgive, help, and follow God also allows us to hate, hurt, lie, and reject Him. But does God allowing evil mean He approves of it? John also talks about the difficult reality that free will doesn't explain every kind of suffering. What about earthquakes, typhoons, disease, and accidents? And if we don't have an answer for every tragedy, can we still trust God? Most importantly, the conversation turns toward Jesus, a God who didn't simply watch humanity suffer from a distance, but entered into our broken world and experienced betrayal, rejection, violence, and death Himself. Freedom is a gift. But freedom has a cost. If you've ever asked “Why does God allow bad things to happen?”, “Why does suffering exist if God is good?”, or “Do we really have free will?”, this episode is for you.
