    Episode five features Ashley Zephrin, RN, an Emergency Room Nurse with over 17 years of experience. Nurse Zephrin discusses her journey with textured hair as a travel nurse across the U.S., which is still an isolating feeling in some parts of the country. As a nursing manager, she also talks about how she uses her intersectionality in leadership positions to prepare other minorities in the medical field to continue to shattering stereotypes. Additionally, she discusses unchanged stereotypes for Black women in the medical field and emerging policies, such as prohibiting eyelash extensions, that appear to target minorities. She also offers practical advice on how to remain authentic and navigate the nursing field as a Black woman despite its unique challenges.     In episode three, we widen our scope by exploring how images and narratives impact our children. Author and Publisher, Tiffany Obeng, and Dr. Rowe discuss opinions about hair discrimination and bias in K-12 schools and the implications for Black boys and girls who are often targeted. In particular, Tiffany shares a personal story with her son and his hair that launched her career to publishing over 20 titles that focus on self-esteem, social-emotional learning, future careers and much more.     In this bonus episode of The Black Crown Chronicles Podcast, Dr. Rowe had the pleasure of being selected as Morgan State University's Alumni Spotlight. She is the first alumni feature for the Advanced Studies, Leadership, & Policy Department.Dr. Rowe talked extensively with Dr. Kimberly MacManus about Black hair and the dissertation journey. In May 2023, Dr. Rowe was awarded the 2023 Howard Simons Outstanding Dissertation of the Year, titled "Crowning Glory: Exploring the narratives of Black women with natural hair and hair texture during the construction of professional identities as medical and law professionals." The dissertation focused on the professional identity construction of Black women in medical and law school with natural hair and hair texture. This episode is a candid conversation about Black women and their hair and how Dr. Rowe’s dissertation helped to promulgate a much-needed discussion about natural hair presentation and the identities of professional Black women. Dr. Rowe talks about her postdoctoral work, future projects and gives some helpful advice to current doctoral students pursuing the terminal degree while remaining persistent and healthy.
