The Self-Centered Mom with Evelyn LeVasseur

evelynlevasseur

The Self-Centered Mom is for the woman who is done being the constant for everyone else and ready to be the authority in her life, on her own terms. The woman who wants her fire back and intends to leave a legacy that breaks every cycle she was handed.  Who is raising daughters to live as full human beings, not as someone who disappears for others comfort. Who is raising sons who understand that women are not here to simply take care of them.  Every week, we bring the honest, disruptive, compassionately direct conversation that this work actually requires. We name the conditioning. We dismantle the systems. And we build  - specifically, practically, really -  a life where you are the center. This is the work. And you're already ready for it.

The Grief We Carry: Motherhood, Self-Love & Learning to Live Like You Matter: Herdyne Mercier

Grief is part of all of our lives, but most of us were never taught how to actually process it. We were taught to keep going. Push through. Stay strong. Be grateful. Take care of everyone else. But grief does not only come from death. It can come from divorce, changing relationships, children growing up, the end of a season, a career transition, an identity we have outgrown, or the realization that we have spent years living according to who we were taught to be. In this episode of The Self-Centered Mom podcast, I sit down with grief therapist, speaker, author, and nonprofit founder Herdyne Mercier for a deeply honest conversation about grief, motherhood, self-love, boundaries, and what it means to truly live. We talk about: Why we are so uncomfortable with grief and difficult emotions Why grief is about much more than death The complicated grief and joy that can come with children growing up What children learn from watching their mothers live The danger of building your entire identity around motherhood Why gratitude does not cancel out exhaustion, overwhelm, frustration, or grief Learning to recognize what you actually need The connection between chronic stress, self-neglect, and always being the person who takes care of everyone else What happens when you begin setting boundaries and stop being the version of yourself that keeps everyone comfortable Grieving relationships and identities that no longer fit Herdyne's five grief anchors: truth, examining your heart, community, faith, and restoration How faith and grief can coexist Preparing for grief instead of waiting until your heart is broken Creating routines and relationships that help you stay connected to yourself Why self-love and self-centeredness can change the way you show up for the people you love What it means to live intentionally rather than simply exist The importance of allowing yourself to experience joy while you are still grieving Why the way you love yourself becomes a blueprint for the people around you One of the most powerful threads throughout this conversation is that becoming more self-centered does not mean caring less about the people you love. It means becoming more connected to yourself so you can participate in your relationships from a place of intention rather than depletion. Because your children are watching. Your family is watching. And the way you live teaches people around you what it looks like to have a life of your own. If you've ever found yourself wondering who you are underneath the roles you've spent your life fulfilling, this conversation is for you. Herdyne Mercier is a licensed clinical social worker, grief therapist, speaker, author, and founder of LIVE, Living Intentionally Victoriously with Expectation, a nonprofit dedicated to grief education and community healing. She specializes in helping individuals and families navigate grief, trauma, and life transitions with compassion and evidence-based care. She is also the host of the Redefining Grief podcast and author of Mommy, What's That Feeling? If this episode resonated with you, rate, review, and share it with another woman who may need to hear it. You are not just living your life. You are rewriting the blueprint the people who come after you will follow. Go be self-centered. Show them what it looks like to live like you matter. Welcome To The New World Order: Evelyn LeVasseur

Welcome to The Self-Centered Mom podcast. This episode marks a new chapter for me. The podcast formerly known as Minding Mine was rooted in self-reflection, healing, self-love, and self-trust. That work still matters deeply to me. But I have realized that healing ourselves while continuing to live inside environments and structures that treat us like we don't matter isn't sustainable. The Self-Centered Mom is about taking that inner work and putting it into action. It's about deconstructing the conditioning we were handed, recognizing the roles and expectations we've inherited, and making changes that allow our lives to include us, too. It's about looking at our schedules, our homes, our relationships, our marriages, our motherhood, and our choices and asking what it looks like to live in a way that reflects our time, our energy, our joy, our needs, and our importance. In this episode, I talk about the ways women have been raised to take care of everyone around them and how deeply that expectation can become embedded in the way we live. I also talk about the ways men have been conditioned within the same structure, and how these roles can create relationships and households where neither person has been given the tools to experience true partnership. This is not about blaming men. It is about recognizing a structure that doesn't support people well and deciding that we can create something different. I also share what being a Self-Centered Mom means to me. Being self-centered means centering yourself, knowing that the way you feel about yourself and the way you care for yourself affects the people you love. It means creating a home where responsibilities are shared because everyone who lives there is part of the home. It means allowing your children to see you take care of yourself, pursue what brings you joy, nurture your relationships, and live as a whole woman. My daughters are learning from the way I live every day. They're learning that their mother is a woman who cares for herself, loves her family, has her own interests and desires, and gets to live like she matters. That is part of the legacy I want to leave them. This season, we're going deeper into de-centering men, de-centering motherhood, de-centering marriage, and finally centering ourselves. The people we love remain important. We're learning to live in a way that shows that we are important, too. Welcome to The Self-Centered Mom. We're rising together, and we start right here. The Mental Load Is Keeping Moms Invisible (Why I Burned My Business to the Ground)

For years, I taught women how to love themselves, rebuild their confidence, and heal the relationship they had with who they were. I still believe that work matters. But I realized something I couldn't ignore. What good is healing yourself if you keep returning to the same environment that teaches you you're invisible? In this episode, I share why I made the biggest decision of my career: I burned my business to the ground and rebuilt it from the inside out. This isn't simply a rebrand. It's a complete shift in what I believe mothers actually need. Self-love is the foundation. But it's not the destination. If the structure of your home still depends on you carrying the mental load, managing everyone's emotions, remembering every appointment, planning every meal, cleaning every room, and sacrificing yourself to keep everything running, no amount of confidence work will create the life you're longing for. I'm no longer teaching women how to simply feel better. I'm teaching them how to build lives where they no longer disappear. In this episode, I talk about: Why I walked away from the business I spent years building. Why self-love without structural change isn't enough. How mothers become invisible inside their own homes. The hidden cost of carrying the mental load. Why your children learn how to treat themselves by watching how you treat yourself. What becoming "self-centered" actually means—and why it has nothing to do with being selfish. How changing your family's structure changes generations to come. I also introduce my new mission as The Self-Centered Mom and explain why centering yourself isn't taking something away from your family—it's one of the greatest gifts you can give them. When you stop disappearing, everyone benefits. If you've ever felt like you've lost yourself beneath the responsibilities of motherhood, marriage, and caring for everyone else, this conversation is for you. How To Raise Self-Trusting Girls: 5 Parenting Strategies That Actually Work

In this episode of the Minding Mine podcast, I'm getting real about one of the most important things I'm doing as a mom - teaching my daughters to deeply trust themselves. While I'm still doing my own inner work and unlearning old patterns, I'm intentional about giving my girls the foundation I wish I'd had. Here are the five things I practice at home: 1. I let them disagree with me. I don't pull the "because I said so" card. Instead, I create space for respectful dialogue, genuinely listen to my daughters' perspectives, and celebrate them for speaking their truth — even when it's hard. 2. I ask questions instead of giving advice. When something happens at school or with a friend, I resist the urge to jump in and fix it. I validate, get curious, and guide my girls back to their own instincts — because I want the voice in their head to be theirs, not mine. 3. I apologize when I'm wrong. I'm human — sometimes I'm distracted, snappy, or checked out. When that happens, I own it, repair it, and move forward. I'm modeling that accountability and love can exist in the same breath. 4. I don't judge my body — or anyone else's. After years of dieting and shrinking myself, I'm intentional about never talking negatively about bodies in front of my girls. I talk about movement for strength, health, and stress relief — not for how it makes me look. 5. I let them watch me choose myself. My daughters see me record podcast episodes, lead groups, and take the stage — nervous and doing it anyway. That's the real lesson: trust isn't the absence of fear. It's moving forward even when your knees are knocking. Bonus tip: Don't underestimate the car ride conversation. Some of the best, most open moments happen in those 10–15 minutes after school. If this episode resonated with you, leave a comment, rate, and review the podcast. And as always — go live your life on your terms.     Follow Evelyn: Facebook: Evelyn LeVasseur Instagram: @itsevelynlevasseur YouTube: Minding Mine   Free Guide: What Your Exhaustion Is Really Trying To Tell You Apply To Work With Me: Here

Self-Forgiveness, Vulnerability & Marriage: Stacy Rocklein

In this episode of Minding Mine, I sit down with coach, speaker, and author Stacy Rocklein, and we have an honest, layered conversation about forgiveness, loneliness, and emotional intimacy. We talk about the kind of loneliness that exists even inside good marriages. The kind that shows up in a room full of people. The kind that doesn’t go away just because you “have everything.” Stacy shares how her journey into forgiveness began when she realized she wasn’t actually forgiving — she was bypassing. Skipping over pain. Avoiding vulnerability. Holding it together. And how that created invisible distance in her closest relationships. We explore: What forgiveness really means (and why it doesn’t require an apology) The defense mechanisms we don’t realize we’re using How loneliness can exist inside healthy relationships Why self-forgiveness is the foundation for emotional intimacy The burden (and power) of teaching someone how to show up for you Why boundaries and forgiveness must work together How our relationship with ourselves shapes every relationship we have The generational shift happening in parenting and partnership What to do when you don’t get the apology you hoped for Why vulnerability is the antidote to loneliness We also talk about marriage — the difference between love as a feeling and love as a daily choice. And I share how releasing the belief that my marriage defined me changed everything. This conversation is deep, reflective, and honest. If you’ve ever felt unseen, emotionally disconnected, or stuck waiting for someone else to change first — this episode is for you. Stacy’s book, Forgive Without an Apology, expands on her forgiveness framework and her 21 Day Heart Cleanse. Triggered Moms Raise Triggered Kids: Amy Haydak

Motherhood will expose you. Because it activates everything you haven’t healed. In this episode of Minding Mine, I sit down with licensed clinical social worker and parenting coach Amy Haydak, and we talk about what it really means to break generational cycles — while you’re still in the middle of raising your kids. Not after therapy. Not once you’ve “figured it out.” Right now.  We talk about emotional regulation. The real-life version. The grocery store meltdown version. The snapping over dishes version. The “why am I this angry?” version. Most of us weren’t taught how to feel. We were taught to behave. So now we’re raising children who feel out loud… and it’s confronting. In this conversation, we unpack: Why you don’t even realize you’re activated half the time What emotional regulation actually feels like in your body The difference between authority and leadership How subtle trauma shapes your reactions Why your child isn’t being “defiant” — they’re dysregulated What repair looks like when you mess up How to reparent yourself while raising your kids We also talk about guilt — because once you see the pattern, you can’t unsee it. But awareness is power. You don’t need to be a perfect mother, you need to be an intentional one. Cycle breaking isn’t about getting things right every time. It’s about raising kids who feel safe — not kids who fear disappointing you. If you’re tired of snapping and spiraling… If you want connection instead of control… If you feel like you’re healing and parenting at the same time… This episode is for you. How to Overcome Burnout and Reclaim Your Time: Stephanie Carter

Are you constantly busy, but still feeling unfulfilled? In this episode of Minding Mine, I sit down with burnout and wellness coach Stephanie Carter to unpack the truth about overwhelm, exhaustion, and why so many women over 40 feel disconnected from themselves. We explored: Why burnout has become a “badge of honor” for women The hidden cost of constant productivity How to stop living on autopilot Why intention—not busyness—creates fulfillment The power of journaling and self-reflection How to identify what actually brings you joy Setting boundaries without guilt Letting go of obligations that no longer serve you Reclaiming your time after seasons of overwork Why pouring into yourself first makes you a better partner, mother, and leader Stephanie shares how the stillness of COVID revealed just how burned out she had become—and how that awakening reshaped her career, priorities, and mission to help other women do the same. This episode is for the woman who: Feels too busy to take care of herself Struggles to answer, “What do I actually want?” Puts herself last and calls it love Knows she wants more peace, joy, and ease—but doesn’t know where to start You’ll walk away with practical tools for reflection, boundary-setting, and creating small, intentional shifts that change everything. Because burnout isn’t a requirement. And you don’t have to earn your worth through exhaustion. Stop Waiting On God: Faith, Purpose & Aligned Action: Patrice Washington

What if the life you’re praying for is waiting on you to move first? In this deeply honest and electric conversation, I sit down with transformational speaker, author, and founder of Redefining Wealth, Patrice Washington. We explore the intersection of faith and action, purpose and performance, conviction and sovereignty. Patrice shares how she built her life through belief and aligned action — from losing a seven-figure business to rebuilding with clarity and calling. We talk about why chasing purpose is not a luxury, how faith becomes a crutch when we refuse to move, and what it truly means to “give God something to bless.” This episode is for the woman who: Knows there is more for her but feels stuck in obligation Believes in God but struggles to trust herself Is tired of outsourcing her power Feels intimidated by her own bigness Wants to break generational patterns and lead differently Inside this conversation, we explore: The difference between belief and the performance of belief Why purpose isn’t optional — it’s your design How intimidation often mirrors unclaimed potential Why “lucky” is an insult Goals vs. vision (and why confusing them keeps you stuck) Faith + aligned action as co-creation Breaking generational trauma through intentional living Letting go of obligation and choosing sovereignty This is about becoming the woman who can hold the vision — not just reach it. Because you weren’t placed here accidentally. You were created on purpose, for purpose. And the only real loss is betraying yourself. If this conversation moves you, share it with someone who needs permission to stop waiting — and start moving.
