When Enjoying What You Love Feels Wrong | Episode #067

Send us Fan Mail Do you ever feel guilty for doing something you love—even though there is nothing sinful about it? Many Christians divide life into two categories: spiritual things that honor God and ordinary things that seem less important. That can leave us feeling guilty about enjoying things like hunting, fishing, golf, horses, working out, family activities, or anything that doesn’t appear on the spiritual list. But God is not glorified when you feel guilty for enjoying a gift He gave you. He is glorified when you receive it with gratitude and enjoy it with Him. In this episode, Craig explains how to: • Stop dividing life into sacred and secular • Distinguish genuine conviction from false guilt • Let God’s Word—not feelings or tradition—determine what is right • Receive God’s good gifts with prayer and thanksgiving You’ll discover how unnecessary guilt can make you suspicious of God’s goodness—and how truth can set you free to enjoy His gifts with a clear conscience. The Mistake Many Christians Are Making | Episode #066

Send us Fan Mail Christians need community—but can even the best relationships satisfy the deepest hunger of the soul? Friends can know you, encourage you, pray for you, and walk beside you. But no human being can give your soul the life it was created to receive from Christ. In this episode, Craig explains why human connection must be kept in its proper place, how misplaced dependence burdens our relationships, and what it means to abide in Christ as the true source of our identity, security, and life. Shame: The Silent Killer | Episode #065

Send us Fan Mail You can have high blood pressure and not know it. That’s why it’s called the “silent killer.” Shame works much the same way. You may not think you struggle with shame. But if you battle insecurity, self-doubt, comparison, defensiveness, perfectionism, fear of failure, or the constant need to prove yourself, the signs may already be there. In this episode of Truly a Masterpiece, Craig shares the story of discovering he had high blood pressure—and why his initial denial taught him something important about shame. You’ll discover why shame isn’t a sign of weakness, why even successful and accomplished men struggle with it, and why you can’t outperform your way to freedom. You can’t overcome shame by proving you are enough. Freedom begins when you stop trying to prove yourself and begin trusting what God says is true. Craig closes the episode by leading you in a simple prayer of confession to help you take the first step out of denial and toward freedom. Practice Doesn't Make Perfect | Episode #064

Send us Fan Mail Practice Doesn't Make Perfect You've probably heard the saying, "Practice makes perfect." It sounds right... but what if it's wrong? The truth is, practice doesn't make perfect—it makes permanent. If you're practicing fear instead of faith, worry instead of trust, or control instead of surrender, those habits become your default way of living. In this episode, Craig explores one of the most powerful stories in the Gospels—the father who cried out to Jesus, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24). Along the way, you'll discover why so many Christians remain frustrated in their spiritual walk, not because they don't believe in God, but because there are still areas where they struggle to believe God. You'll discover: Why we've normalized doubt without realizing itThe question hiding behind every fearWhy practice doesn't produce perfection—it produces permanenceThree biblical practices that will help you replace doubt with lasting faithHow to make trusting God your new default response to life's challengesYou don't have to know what God will do to know how God will respond. The Marriage Lesson I Wish I Had Learned 50 Years Ago | Episode #062

Send us Fan Mail After more than 50 years of marriage, after 36 years of counseling couples as a pastor, and studying the Bible, I've come to believe something I never would have believed as a young husband. A wife's greatest need isn't anything I would have imagined: her deepest longing is to feel safe. In this episode, I share the two marriage lessons I wish someone had taught me before Debbie and I got married. They changed not only our marriage, but my understanding of God, myself, and what it truly means to love another person. I'll share the story of the man God used to lead me to Christ, why I once questioned the Bible's teaching on sacrificial love, and how overcoming shame and self-doubt transformed the way I relate to my wife. If you've ever wanted a stronger marriage, don't start by asking how to change your spouse. Start by asking what kind of person God is inviting you to become. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why emotional safety is one of the greatest gifts a husband can give his wife. • How insecurity quietly affects every marriage. • Why your spouse can never provide the security only Christ can give. • How resting in God's love frees you to love sacrificially. My prayer is that this conversation helps you become a husband, father, and leader who reflects the love of Christ. More successful. More respected. No matter how much you accomplish, it never feels like enough. In Psalm 131, David reveals a surprising path to peace—not by escaping your limitations, but by embracing them. In this episode, you'll discover:  Why trying to be "enough" is an exhausting battle you'll never win.  The hidden reason so many Christian men struggle with shame and self-doubt.  What it really means to be humble.  Why God gave us limitations—and how He uses them for our good.  The powerful lesson behind David's comparison to a weaned child.  How trusting God frees you from the pressure to prove yourself. If you've spent years wondering why you never feel like you're enough, this episode will help you discover the freedom that comes from trusting the God who is. Why Do Good and Talented Men Bury Their Talent | Episode #060

Send us Fan Mail Most people know comparison is wrong. So why do we keep doing it? Because comparison isn't the problem. It's the symptom. In this episode, Craig uncovers the hidden reason good and talented men bury their gifts, avoid opportunities, and settle for less than God created them to become. Craig shares a deeply personal story of how comparison caused him to hide his own talent—even skipping the message at two of his children's weddings because he believed what he prepared wasn't worth hearing. But the real problem wasn't comparison. It was the assumptions he'd stopped questioning. If you've ever struggled with fear, perfectionism, procrastination, people-pleasing, or the feeling that you're simply not enough, this episode will help you discover what's happening beneath the surface—and how God's truth sets you free. In this episode you'll discover:  Why comparison is a symptom, not the real problem.  The hidden assumptions that give shame its power.  Why fear causes good and talented people to bury their gifts.  The difference between living by comparison and living by revelation.  How to identify the assumptions that have been shaping your life.  Why God never asked you to become a five-talent servant—only a faithful one. Key Quote "The greatest lies are the assumptions you've stopped questioning."Scriptures  Matthew 25:14–30 – The Parable of the Talents  Ephesians 2:10  2 Corinthians 10:12 If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to hear it. If you're ready to overcome shame and self-doubt so you can become the husband, father, and leader God created you to be, I'd love to help. Time Stamps 0:00 There is a hidden reason that keeps good and talented men from succeeding 0:58 Why comparison has so much power 1:20 Comparison caused me to hide my talent, and I wasn't even aware I was doing it 1:28 My embarrassing story 2:27 It wasn't that I thought I wasn't a good speaker. I thought I wasn't good enough. 3:10 The question that changed my life 3:51 Asking me to see why I was burying my talent was like asking a fish to see water 4:26 I thought God's grace wasn't enough for me 4:46 The greatest lies are the ones you've stopped questioning. They've become your reality. 5:02 Assumptions are born out of shame, and shame is hard to see. Shame hides. 5:40 If you want to see the lie, you must get out of your natural environment and into the spiritual. 6:02 Your natural environment is where comparison lives. 6:23 The natural world tells you who you ara by comparison. The spiritual tells you who you are by revelation 6:37 Comparison is shame's desperate search for significance. Comparison is asking the life of another to answer the questions only God can answer 6:56 The natural is where you learn you are not enough 7:22 The spiritual is where you discover you really are enough by God's grace 7:58 When you see who the Spirit says you are. You won't worry that you are not a five-talent servant 8:18 My challenge to you: What assumptions have you made about yourself and stopped questioning? 9:42 Stop burying your talent. Stop measuring your life against another's. Rest in God's love and rely on God's grace, and do all that God created you to do.
